who here has been banded for at least 2 years and has had NO complications?
elcee replied to Lapbandster's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I have been banded 31/2 years and haven't had any real complications. I did get badly stuck last year and have to have an unfill but that is something that is easily solved, it isn't a real complication. My band is not as effective now at controlling my hunger as it was initially but I think that is fairly normal as well. -
Burps...Burps...Burps
elcee replied to 4thefuture31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Burping like a sailor is quite common, it's something you get used to. Just think yourself lucky that for now it's coming out of the top............... -
I'm not surprised that you are having trouble if you are trying to eat grilled chicken and veggies, grilled chicken is NOT a band friendly food. It is way too dry and gets stuck far too easily. I suggest that you try a moister way of cooking your chicken and try thigh instead of breast. It is far tastier and far easier to eat. Often the difference between success and failure can be down to some of the choices we make. Grilled chicken sounds like it should be a good choice because preband that is one of the things that we have always been told to eat when dieting but for most it isn't, it causes problems.

Well done

My lowest weight was about 50 - 51kg but over the last year I have gained 4kg. It is a lot harder when you are at goal, especially if you are a small person. Your BMR is much lower and it is hard to only eat the amount of calories needed to maintain. I have finally got off my ass and started exercising , something I didn't have to do to lose initially, and I have also got a fitbit. I try to log what i am eating on MFP and stay under my goal set by Fitbit but I am still not losing.Hoping to get this excess weight back off soon.

one year with banding
elcee replied to Sultan Dablool's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Without the band you would probably have gained so of course 16kgs is good. It might be not as good as some people but it is also better than others. We are all individuals so we should try not to compare. How are things going? Have you solved the pizza problem? -
Severe pain in ribs!
elcee replied to 4thefuture31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When did you have surgery? If your surgery was recent then you should call your Dr as this could be something serious. Also if you are having problems breathing you should call an ambulance, you could be having a heart attack. Yes it might be something minor like a pulled muscle but we cannot diagnose you, you need to get this checked out URGENTLY -
Being healthy doesn't always matter!

Wow, cannot believe waterfront property is so cheap. Property in Aus is incredibly expensive. Waterfront would cost a million dollars plus. -
Seriously Embarrassed !
elcee replied to Destined*Lady*D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had a number of cracked toilet seats , can't remember who/how they got broken, some toilet seats seem to be made of very thin plastic that is prone to cracking. The worst is if you sit on it again without getting it fixed it can pinch your bum and that is painful! -
What is a grapple?

Not to scare you but some of those symptoms could be symptoms of ovarian cancer. Bloating , a feeling of fullness etc. All vague symptoms which normally mean that the diagnosis is delayed or missed. I hope that whatever it is you get an answer and a solution soon.

Wow, well done

You need to take smaller bites and eat slower. The feeling in your chest is at the point where your band is trying to push the food through. If the bites are too big or not properly chewed that is when you will feel dicomfort. If you are not careful you may even get stuck and that really hurts.

that is 22lb in just over 4 weeks. i assume you are not complaining?

Good question

Generally there are 2 or sometimes even 3 sides to a story. If this is genuine abuse then I would report it to Alex. If however it is a case of someone responding to something that you have done then a pm is the correct way to go about it, we don't need to see others washing their dirty laundry on the nboards ( although it does get interesting at times)!

Not quite sure what the question or query was as your post was really difficult to read.

The worst for me is when people don't use paragraphs. That usually makes me give up trying to read what they have written.

New to forum, having surgery doubts
elcee replied to Want2behealthy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 5' and I weighed 163 at my highest and 154 after my preop diet. That meant I was obese. You have to do what is right for you but don't let well meaning/scared/jealous family and friends put you off .Losing weight and keeping it off is hard. Very few people are successful in the long term without some kind of surgical intervention. -
For the first 3 years I didn't have to try, it all seemed to just happen. Now however things have changed and I am having to make a conscious effort to try and maintain.

Too tight or possibly even a slipped band. Call your Dr.

Grapefruit juice 9 days post op
elcee replied to anniearrr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never heard that grapefruit juice isn't allowed. I do know however that it interacts with a lot of different medications so is often contraindicated for those reasons. The best thing to do is speak to your Dr. The other option of course is to drink tap water - surely tap water in the US is safe to drink?
