  1. Thank you so much for sharing. I have talked to Dr. Hart's office before. I had a friend refer him. He did her bi-pass. I am self pay, so needless to say I am going to Mexico to be banded. The state ins. will not pay for anything to do with weight loss; however, will pay for all of the illnesses caused by it. Does Dr. Hart do your fills or do you go somewhere else? I will be using Fill USA in Roswell. I live in the Mall of Ga area. I am so ready. I teach so the summer was the best time for me to go. Which band do you have, the lap or realize? Congrats on your loss. I will keep posting. This is a great place to learn.

  2. Hi Betz,

My insurance will not cover my band. I am a state employee and it is only covered for federal employees in the state of Georgia. I have been looking into band surgery for several years. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. A friend had told me about a mutual friend whose wife had been banded. She is also a state employee. As I talked with him he said she had the surgery done in Mexico. She called me that night. I got all of the information and started researching. I am now scheduled to be banded in June in Mexico. The prices I was quoted in Georgia ranged from $18,000 to $26,000. Mine is $6,000 plus airfare and still less than half of full cost in the states. Good luck to you!

  3. I have the same questions. I am scheduled to be banded in June. I went to both the LapBand and RealizeBand sites and compared notes. The lap has been around longer. the realize has less of a slipage rate. Everyone I know personally that has been banded (4 people) have the lap band. My dr. will choose if I do not and think he leans towards the lap; although, I am not sure why. Please post your decision.
