What food stage are you at? What are you eating?
I just started real food last night! However, I was so disappointed. I went to KFC for their new grilled chicken. It didn't look anything like it looks on TV -- no grill marks, really pale like plain baked chicken, and it still has the skin on!! I thought it was skinless! So, I had to take all the seasoning off (which, actually there wasn't even much of that!) and all that was left was a plain semi-dry chicken breast. Ho hum. So, once you get to the real food stage, don't bother.

Oh, scrambled egg tasted sooo good when I had it! I just started "real" food last night, and I went to KFC for their new grilled chicken. Oh, I was so disappointed!! It didn't look anything like it looks on TV, and it still has the skin on! I thought it was skinless. So, I had to take all the yummy seasoning off, and all that was left was a plain chicken breast. Ho hum. So, word to the wise... don't bother with that once you get to the real food stage.

My stitches are sticking out!!!
Thankfully, it's not irritating me at all. I've been putting antibiotic ointment on mine twice a day as well.

Anyone Start Exercising Yet!!!....
I'm also walking just over a mile a day, when it's not pouring rain, that is! Congrats on your banding, road2newme. I wasn't able to walk that much until about 2 weeks after my surgery. It just took the wind right out of me! Hope your port pain subsides soon. It seems to be common.

My stitches are sticking out!!!
Yikes! My internal stitches from the incision on my port area are sticking out a little bit at the end. I didn't realize this until all the scabbing had fallen off, i.e, last night. There are two tiny clear threads sticking out. I know it won't hurt me, but how gross is that?! I go back to the surgeon soon, so I'll show him then. If you were wondering what your internal stitches looked like, think of clear fishing line.

Thirsty!!!!!!!
I was like that for the first week at least! I could not get enough water. The second week was much better. The third, I was back to normal.

Thanks, Hallelujah. I am really hoping it gets better also. That's a big reason I had the surgery!

I know others have gone on cruises from this board. And I believe there are diet cruises, where the food offered is healthier than normal cruise food. I think it would be fun!

May 1st banding
That's great, everyone! TVguy, did you lose 50 lbs. just since surgery??! I think we're entering Bandster Hell. I go for my 1st fill on Friday, June 12. I can't wait. I constantly starving and exercising, but I haven't lost weight this week! *sigh*

Three years? Why wait that long??! :crying:

No more broth!!!!!!
Yay! How exciting to get off the broth!! Exciting food awaits you now! I didn't gain anything from my two weeks of pureed/mushy foods, but I only lost 1 pound. Most of us who got banded early in the month are now entering what is called "Bandster Hell," which from what I read, happens to nearly everyone. It's the period between your surgery and your first fill when your weight loss slows down to nothing, even though you're eating like a tiny bird and exercising. You both have done so well on your weight loss so far! Don't worry, you probably will be just fine with the addition of the pureed foods! Just keep up the exercise and the water consumption. :crying:

Messed Up, No Excusses, Ate Wrong Food, Moving On!
Julie, my prayers go out to your nephew and sister. My niece had a similar incident 5 years ago. It was very, very traumatic. I am an emotional eater. I think it must have taken a LOT of willpower for you to stop at just one bite of pizza and two bites of chicken. Good for you! Pat yourself on the back for not turning to pints of ice cream or bottles or alcohol or other high calorie things that could have easily slid down and dulled the pain. You're a strong woman. Hang in there. You will do just fine! You're surrounded by a lot of good people here on the Mayo Banditos forum. :crying:

Does Anyone Else Have This Problem??!!
When I'm sticking to a diet, I weigh every morning. When I fall off the wagon, I can go months without weighing. Right now I'm weighing every morning and sighing because I'm in Bandster Hell!!!! :crying: grrrrrr.... (That's me and my stomach making that noise!!!)

Karebare, thanks for the resistance band exercises. I bought a set two years ago and have no idea what to do with them. LOL Sad, huh?

Anyone hungry?
Bmooney, oh, the smells! I swear everything smells better!! Melissa and CrazyLady, I did some searching around on here, and it appears that we are officially in Bandster Hell! :mad5: Waaaah!!!

What about Caffine?
Interesting. I was told to "give it up." Luckily, I had been slowly doing this over the course of the past year for other reasons, so I just tapered it off quicker than I had been doing. I still long for a fountain Diet Coke, though....the last thing I gave up.

Good luck, Rebecca! Let us know how it goes!

Karebare, I'm sorry to hear that you have lupus. And sarahbellzz, sorry to hear about your arthritis in your hip. I can sympathize with both of you. I have fibromyalgia, which affects all of my muscles and joints, especially my legs and hips. Plus, I have arthritis in my knees. Like you KB, if I'm not careful about my exercise, I will be flat out and on pain meds for days. I was so excited to hear that the pool in my neighborhood in my pool offers Water aerobics in the evenings. I've been looking for an arthritis class, but everything is during the day, when I'm at work. Take it easy and slow, but keep on moving and hang in there!

Anyone hungry?
OMG, are you reading my mind? Not only am I starving, but I'm not losing weight since starting on the pureed foods! What gives? I'm only eating *maybe* 500 calories, so in theory, I should be dropping the lbs like crazy, unless ... could it be... that my body now thinks it is in starvation mode and is holding on to the lbs? My doc told me I could eat 1/2 cup at a time, and if a little later I was still not hungry, eat some more, up to a total of a cup, but to try to load up on Water in between meals. I also do a Protein drink at the start of the day. I'm not big on food right away in the morning, so the choc. drink is just the right thing. Ugh! This is even harder than I thought it would be -- and I knew it would be hard!!!!

Getting back in the sack...
I'm pretty sure it does not stick out as you lose weight. When I had my port for chemo, I had it in for 1 1/2 years, and during that time, I gained 65 pounds and then lost 45 pounds. It always stayed exactly the same. I guess they stitch it in just under the skin so that it moves with you.

Yes, Melissa, I'm really glad I've found such a wonderful group of people to help me on my journey! The Mayo Banditos are awesome!

WOW, John, congratulations! Your previous measurements are where my dh is now, and your current measurements are where my dh was when I met him. LOL I'm really hoping that when I lose weight it will be a good influence on him. I love him regardless, but I worry about his health. He has a lot of problems that he ignores. Good luck with the travel! Keep up the good work! :wink2:

Getting back in the sack...
Don't know about the sex thing... too afraid to try yet, but I do know that the port is supposed to be right under your skin. I had a port several years ago when I went through chemotherapy for breast cancer. It needs to be near the surface so they can insert the needle when they give you the fill. You'll get used to it. :wink2: It is weird at first, though!!
