Tyrone, PA bander here
Hey bandies, I was banded on May 1, 2009 by Dr. Schmidt at the Altoona Hospital. I have lost about 92 pounds already and haven't had a fill yet. I really think that I need a fill because I've only lost several pounds in the last month. I've really fallen off my diet and exercise program...I know that I just need to get my head in the right place. So how is everyone doing?

Well i went for my second doctors visit since my operation on May 1st. He told me he wants to still hold off on my first fill till September. He was happy with the weight that I've lost so far. I guess that I have will have to work on exercising and eating better.

Tuesday, June 16
Well I'm at work again this morning. Last night for dinner I cooked chicken thighs on the grill and then proceed to make myself feel tight. Why do I keep doing this. This afternoon I go for my second follow visit to the surgeon. I've been feeling hungrier lately so I sure hope he is willing to give me my first fill.

May 1st banding
Heyred1, I used what they refer to as the liver shrink diet. I was only able to consume liquids for two weeks before my surgery. I started with SlimFast four to five times a day but that only last for the first week. I got to the point that I was not able to stomach the Slimfast any more...made me want to gag. I called the Doctor and they advised me to drink Carnation Sugar Free Instance breakfast mixed with skim milk. I just love this and still use it as a protein source now. I was also able to eat sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles. The one thing that I found to be a great help with the need to chew was sugar free gum. I ended up losing about twenty or more pounds doing this before my surgery date. Good luck and hope all goes well for you.

thanks for the encouragement everyone.

What are the best protein drinks and why.
I've tried and like the protein shot that you can buy at Walmart for $1.97. They give you a massive amount of protein in only 3 ounces. I start the pre-diet with Slimfast but that eventually made me gag! My doctor then suggested Carnation Instant Sugar Free Liquid Breakfast. I usually mix it with about 10 ounces of skim milk and sometimes add about a tablespoon non-fat dry milk.

May 1st banding
I lost about 20lbs on the pre-surgery diet and the rest of the of the weight was after. I have been having trouble staying on track around dinner time each night. Last night I cooked chicken out on the grill and kept nibbling. Bad me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL The rain here in PA has kept me from walking. Where is the sun!

I need a kick in the butt...slap in the face...something!!!!
I am having the same problems right now. While I am at work I follow my diet strictly. At home is a different story when I need to cook for the family. My Doc gave me the option to either drink slim fast or carniation instant sugar free breakfast. The Slimfast makes me want to gag but I love the Carniation. I mix it with 8 to 10 ounces of skim milk and blend. I also add in a tablespoon of dry skim milk to bring the protein up even higher. The other day I was a Walmart and found an awesome high protein supplement. They are call protein shots and come in a fruit punch flavor. At $2.00 a vial they are a easy way to add protein to your diet. They are a little sweet but still taste good when sipped slowly.

Anyone Start Exercising Yet!!!....
I had my surgery on May 1st and I have started walking for about a half hour a day at work. I kind of figure that my half hour walk equals the multiple smoke breaks my co-workers take throughout the day. In about two weeks I plan on working out more with my nine year old son. I need to lose weight and he needs to get ready for football by the end of the summer.

May 28th Anyone??
I can tell you that I was more than ready to get on with the surgery. Everything went well for me and I never needed pain meds. The only problem that I had was the wait for the surgeon. He got backed up by his previous surgeries and I had to wait all afternoon.
