    Is this normal?

I had a similar experience. It took almost 8 days until that feeling went away for me. I really had a hard time getting my liquids in. I was so naseated that I didn't even want to move but I think a combination of time and taking small 10-15 min. walks several times a day helped. I think I was very swollen after the surgery and the gas didn't help. It was pretty rough. I know that in the morning at about day six warm liquids helped. Just try and stay hydrated and move as much as you can tolerate. It is always a good idea to check in with your dr. I guess the rumor is that some dr's actually fill the band a little during surgery so perhaps you have a little fill and you are swollen? I don't know if I have any fill but I do feel 100% better (had surgery on the 16th). Hope you feel better soon.

I am in the hospital :-(

I hope you get some really good rest. I am sorry to hear you are sick. Healthy vibes being sent your way. Take care. Take advantage of this time to sleep and recover. I wish yout he best.
  4. I am a little over three days from surgery and have the worst taste in my mouth. I thought it was from dehydration but I am not sure. I am drinking liquids and sucking on ice chips. Well- this evening I was just sitting there after going for a walk and I felt like my saliva was all foamy. Anyone experience this?

    I was banded yesterday

My husband dropped me off at 11:15 yesterday and left with the kids. I had a little crying jab in the lobby but it passed quickly. They moved me a long really fast- changed into gown by 11:30. They couldn't find a vein for the IV so I got pocked about six times until someone could find one. Went into surgery and don't remember falling alseep. Woke up with a decent amount of pain but they gave me some medication. My husband picked me back up at 3pm. All and all a fine experience. Today the pain is mostly around the port area. But not unmaneable. It is hard to find a comfortable spot to sit. Getting in and out of bed is getting easier and easier. Can't wait to feel even better. Decided to not weigh myself until next Friday.

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Forgot to mention. I have my post op appt. set for May 5th and my first fill for May 18th. When I went to the office today it was so crowded- every time I have been to the office there is only one or two people there. Not today- full house and everyone was "large and in charge". I was wondering where all the thin people were but figured out that they must show up on fill days. Can't wait to see the lobby on a fill day so I can see all the people that have been successful with the lapband and dream of being them one day. Take care!

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

I had my preop appt. today as well. I really liked my surgeon. I can't believe this is happening- my surgery is not until 1:15 which might make for a long morning as I can't have anything to eat or drink. I am going to make sure I really hydrate well on Wednesday. Can't wait to hear from everyone on Friday- or shortly there after. Good luck to everyone!!!

    Friday Weigh Ins

O boy- can't believe that I am disclosing this. Thank you all for being brave enough to share and showing me it is okay to share. Started pre-op yesterday at 250.8. Didn't weigh today. 250.8 is my highest ever. I'll try and post next week but it will be the day after surgery. Happy Easter everyone.

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

I am on my second day of the pre-op diet. I am struggling to find a protein shake that does not make me gag. Luckily I can have 2 small meals a day (protein and green veggies) and one cup of fruit. I just reviewed the paperwork about what we can eat the first week after surgery and the recommendation is three protein shakes a day- so it is imperative that I find one that I can get down!! I remember reviewing some other posts and people were talking about how many different protein shakes they had tried and I thought that would never be me. Wish me luck in the am as I am trying another.............. It is really starting to set in that I have chosen to drastically change my eating habits- it is different when you have to put it into action versus reading on a piece of paper. I just can't wait to lose weight so it will be fine. Hope everyone is doing well.
  10. I am doing well- still only one child ill. I took him to the dr. because I was sure it was his ears but they checked out o.k. Just some funky virus. He has had a fever for three days- managed with motrin just fine. SO I am just waiting to see if anyone else gets sick. I bet you will feel much better by Tues or Wed just in time!!!

    Ladies only

Try not to worry- I am sure you are one of many that had their period on the day of a scheduled surgery. The people that will be caring for you are medical professionals and I am sure they won't even be phased by it- and besides it is not likely you will ever see them again. Best wishes to you!!!

    Excited! Surgery tomorrow!

    Best wishes to you!!
  13. UGH- I am in the same boat. Mine woke with a fever today and no appetite. I am also scheduled for the 16th. Why don't we both leave the families in the care of the daddies and steal away to a healthy hotel while we wait!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed!!!
  14. Anyone starting the pre-op diet on Thursday? I am doing some last minute shopping tomorrow to be ready to go Thursday morning. Planning on what I am going to bring with me to my mom's for Easter brunch so that I am prepared and stay on track.

    Misconception.....

Anyone identified that they have a really messed up thought in their head that they are actually gonna wake up skinny right after the surgery? I know that sounds weird but I am so excited about the day and think I am confused and think that the actual surgery is going to instantaneously make me thin.
  16. Hi- I am going to self-pay for the lapband surgery and was wondering if anyone has ever negotiated the price if they too self-paid? The current price I was given is $15,000. Any thoughts?
  17. Hi- I am trying to picture how I will be able to take care of two children under two once banded. I am working all the kinks out but don't know how I am going to lift them in/out of their cribs in the am, naptime, and bedtime. They weigh approx. 29 lbs now. Anyone lifting a child out of the crib?

    Moms with Bands

This is a huge concern for me. I am trying to figure out how this is gonna work for me- getting banded on April 16th. So I do share your concerns and my biggest hope is that everyone in the family will eat healthier because of the lapband- not protein shakes per se but healthier foods.

I was banded this morning - in hospital now!

I hope that you get some good rest!!! When you are up to it please share your experience in regards to the trepidation and how you overcame it and didn't run out the door. I am picturing myself entering the hospital and dashing back out the door out of fear.

    Rewarding yourself along the way...

Definitely a family picture. I am missing from several holiday photos- or if I am in them I sure don't look like I wanted my picture taken. I also always wanted to have blonde, blonde long hair so as soon as I lose my weight I am going to get a good cut and dye job- maybe even extensions!!! I was raised to not put to much thought into how you look because that was vain but I want to put that in the past and give a crap about what I look like!!!!!

    Suddenly terror struck...

well- I think what you are experiencing is totally normal. I am scheduled for the 16th. It hasn't quite hit me yet but I am planning on writing down all the reasons why I want this surgery so that I can look at it as the date approaches and kindly remind myself and redirect myself to positive thoughts. Also- something I often do is attempt to "normalize" any situation that I am facing- for example.........focus on the idea/fact that people have this surgery all the time and come out healthy and strong, that the dr. that is performing the surgery has done the surgery numerous times successfully. I personally think that fear can be a good thing because it can motivate you to take action- just don't let it paralyze you. Good luck to you!!!!

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Hi Peggy- I just found out yesterday that I am scheduled for April 16th. Trying to get all my ducks in a row now and figure out what I need to have on hand prior to surgery. I love getting organized so this is kinda a fun time for me- plus it keeps me distracted from any fearful thoughts and focused!!!
  23. Hi- this is my first post. I just got off the phone and have my surgery scheduled for April 16th!!!! I can't even describer how I feel- it is a full range of emotions. Just wanted to share the news.

    Meet the Bunnies

Hi- my name is Karena. I have been married for almost 5 years. I have identical twin boys who are almost 2 years old. I have been thinking about lapband surgery since November 08. My goal is to lose 100 pounds which feels very overwhelming now that I have actually typed it out. I know that this is going to be a slow and steady process and am up for the challenge. I have lost large amounts of weight several times in my life so I know I can do it. I hope to be a good support system for many of you as I would like to lean on you as well.

    Negotiating the cost of lapband

I am in Arizona. Wow- that is a significant difference in price. I've never been to Colorado. I wish it was an option but I have two small children so I don't know how I could make that happen- still trying to figure out how to make this happen without leaving town. Great suggestion/option though for other possible self-payers!!!
