I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV

I just want to add for others who might read this thread, that having gone through a slip personally, this is not necessarily true. I had a slip and was able to drink water and protein shakes and some soft foods. It really depends on how bad the slip is and other factors.

Congrats on the weight loss and best of luck to you in reaching your goal!

What exactly are your questions about removal? If you know that is what you want, you can only speak to a surgeon about it. If you want options, are you thinking of another weight-loss procedure such a gastric bypass?

What's DH? Doo Hickey?

Many people have experienced loss of fluid from the band. Some people have mentioned a thicker solution called Omnipaque that can help with leaks. Ask your fill doctor about it.

Why can't we have sugar post-op?
socalgal3 replied to yvonneb3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you need to avoid the calories. I eat sugar and have no ill effects. -
After I had my LAB band installed, I had to live on liquids. I should have had a gastric bypass. Then I could eat cheese........

I have gone there to answered all the poor unanswered posts only to find I couldn't answer. Many of them are asking about Dr. So and So and I don't know him, or asking about PCOS and I don't have it, etc., etc. I have good intenetions but can't help. Good luck if you can answer them!!

When you have a craving what do you do???
socalgal3 replied to ebonie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've tried both ways-avoiding/substituting or just giving into the craving. I have to say it depends on the day which one is most effective! For the most part, I just don't have those foods in the house and I avoid them. I was never a big ice cream eater anyway, but if I crave it, I go get nonfat frozen yogurt at Golden Spoon. Sometimes(like yesterday!) I gave into my craving for chocolate cake and I was totally disappointed. Not only in myself, but in the taste. I don't get the same satisfaction or "high" out of shoving food down my face anymore. I have a few bites and I'm full and it doesn't taste as good as it did in my dreams! I admit, it took me awhile to get to this point and I still have "bad" days where I slip up, but overall, I am so happy that the band reduces my cravings. -
I'm glad you were able to keep the band! I hope you are able to get to the bottom of your issues. And I just want to agree with you that Dr. Martinez is the greatest! He was so good when I had my slip, explaining everything and being so calm and comforting. WHY did they blindfold you for that test?? Sounds bizarre!

Oh No! Surgery Friday and I have a cold!
socalgal3 replied to Hazel-eyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take some Airborne every 3 hours and suck on Cold Eeze. Drink lots of fluids, rest and take vitamins. You can even try grapefruit seed extract mixed into juice(it is SUPER bitter). Get well soon! -
I was totally hoping Curtis or Trent could come back and maybe Jackie on the girls' side. I was kinda rooting for a chick fight between Allison and Jillian too! haha I totally thought I missed the elimination, but I guess they didn't show it. I admit I was flipping between Loser and Big Brother!(I have no life)

Gayle- That is GREAT news! I'm so happy for you.

I didn't have a pre-op liquid phase, but I don't see what harm some pepper would do. Ask your doctor to be sure.

Anthony Bourdain is on the Travel Channel. I have to be careful with food shows. I love to watch them, but they trigger my head hunger in no time!

I had a good day after a BAD week....I was up to 160! This morning I was 159 and I had a South Beach meal replacement bar for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine for lunch and some Bertolli Mediterranean pasta for dinner. I know it is all packaged food, but it helps me stay focused for now. I guess it isn't so bad considering all that has happened and that I have no fill and was menstrual! Even if you don't post, I hope you all are coming here to read and staying on track.

I can only eat 2 ladybugs, then I'm full. That's how I know I have perfect restriction.

All the things you mentioned could cause getting stuck. Eating too fast is a big problem for me. I almost always get stuck if I wait too long to eat, get very hungry, then eat too fast. Bread and tortillas often cause problems for me as well. I can eat chicken breast with no problems, but many bandsters find it to dry and it gets stuck. Try slowing down, chewing better and avoiding these 3 foods until Thursday. If things improve, you can probably get a small fill. If they stay the same, don't get a fill. It is a misconception that being really tight will produce faster weight loss. Many people when they are tight turn to poor food choices like ice cream that actually causes weight gain. Also, being too tight can eventually lead to a slip. If you haven't actually PB'd, I think you just need to slow down and be more careful.

Just found out - Now Im LOST and SCARED!
socalgal3 replied to lisa_hawaii's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my slip surgically repaired last year. They do say that if you have a slip, there is a greater chance you will slip again. I haven't slipped again(yet!). My last flouro a few weeks ago showed the band in good position. I have reached goal, so there is life after a slip! Just be careful and follow your docs advice. I hope all goes well for you! -
I can't eat cat's arse anymore. It makes me PB.

Do you buy any clothes while your weight is transitioning down?
socalgal3 replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Someone from this site sent me a bunch of pants and I went to Ross a lot. I also had some old clothes from my thin days. Unfortunately, some of those were frightfully out of style(remember high waisted jeans in the 1990s? and acid wash? HA!) I wore my old until people at work were literally telling me that my pants were WAY too big. Just check the clearance racks at your favorite stores and buy some basics until you get to goal.
