    question about slippage.....

No. Your band will loosen, but you just need to get a fill. A slip is generally caused by being too tight or from excessive PBing, or other reasons. But, I've never heard of one happening from being too loose!! As long as you are still losing, don't get a fill.

Thanks Poodles. I didn't mean to be a hypersensitive whiner. I had been getting more comfortable with comments on my weight loss, but I wish it wasn't such an issue. I went to a free Pilates class after work. I have tried it once before. It didn't feel too hard while I was doing it, but now my muscles feel lightly fatigued. The class was 1 hour. I'm sorry today didn't go as you expected Poodles. It's almost FRIDAY! TGIF and have a HEALTHY weekend everyone!!
  4. I had one today that irritated me. A thin lady at work commented out loud to everyone in the office how I was "wasting away". I suppose that is a compliment that I have lost weight, but I am 5'6" and 165-still overweight on all charts I've checked. "Wasting away" is how I might describe someone who is dying. And not to their face at that! Maybe I'm just being hypersensitive, but it didn't sound like a compliment.....

    New Here

Nina- Welcome to LBT! You do have options. If you aren't covered by insurance, you can try Mexico, or there are some self pay docs in the US who do the procedure for around $10,000. One is in Colorado- I think it's Lapbandrockies.com or something. This is a great group and a great board. Feel free to post your concerns or questions and someone will gladly help out!

As a rule of thumb, shoot to eat your target body weight in grams of Protein daily. For example, if you're a chubby 200 pounds and want to be a lean 180, then have 180 grams of protein a day. I read this today on MSN and almost fell over. I've been struggling to get my protein in at 60g. How on earth does someone eat 180g of protein a day???!! Anyway, Poodles-the band is NOT meant to cause you pain. That is just ridiculous. I hope this doctor has some solutions for you. There was a lady on here who was banded by my surgeon and lost like 15 pounds in 3 years. I think her screen name was marys. Maybe PM her. I think she ended up having her band removed. I sincerely hope that it isn't a case of "band failure". It is sad to think it can't work for some people. Keep us posted. On another front, I had a lady a work say to everyone out loud in the office that I was "wasting away". I suppose that is a compliment, but it sounds rude to me. Like I was just flown in from Darfur or something. Another woman said I was looking "fit and trim" and that sounds more like a compliment to me. I guess I'm just being sensitive and I shouldn't complain that people are noticing, but can people just think first? I know, nice problem to have, but I think sometimes people think it is nice and it just isn't!

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip Regina! That is a great photo of you both, thanks for sharing with us! Welcome back! I cancelled my 2nd interview that was scheduled for today. I thought long and hard about it, made a list of pros/cons and prayed on it. It just wasn't the right time to move. I have a girl coming to look at my apartment this Friday, so I may have a new roommmate. (My other roommate met a guy and is moving out after only 4 months!). I hate having a roommate but it is a financial necessity for me right now. I also put in 5 applications for part-time jobs and had to take a drug test for one today. One good thing is we hired 2 new people at my main job today which should significantly reduce my workload. I hope everyone is having a good week.
  8. It is highly unlikely that you slipped with no fill yet. I wasn't "throwing up all over the place" when I had a slip, but I certainly couldn't keep anything solid down, so I stayed on liquids. You would most likely have other symptoms such as heartburn, back pain, etc.

Not to be dense, but by revision for $4000, you mean revising to gastric bypass? From all your posts, I really get the feeling it isn't a good choice for you. You sound really against it. How much will it cost for them to reposition the band, or is that an option? There are some people on here (KarenB for one) who converted to RNY. Maybe you should PM them. Do you have a 4cc band or a 10cc? Maybe a different band would work better for your anatomy. Did your doctor discuss that at all? Have you had any other tests to rule out a medical reason for you having trouble losing weight? Like thyroid, etc.? Sorry if I ask alot of questions. I've just been thinking about you alot and trying my best to put myself in your shoes. Are you still exercising and watching what you eat? I think you need to go get a 90 minute massage like Barb! Then you'll be more relaxed and be better able to make a clear-headed decision. I'm pulling for your success!!

    plateau

23 pounds in 2 months is very good loss in my opinion. You should average 1-2 pounds a week and that sounds right on track. Are you exercising? Are you taking measurements? Sometimes you stall for a few weeks and the loss begins again. Find other NSVs(non-scale victories) to keep you motivated. Some NSVs are getting off of certain medications, being able to wear a piece of clothing that hasn't fit in awhile, being able to climb stairs without stopping to catch your breath, etc. You get the idea. Sometimes it takes a few fills to get where you'd like to be restriction wise. Make sure you keep following all the banster rules, don't drink your calories and hopefully the weight loss will start up again. Hang in there and best of luck to you!

Poodles- I really am so sorry that you have this tough decision before you. Remind us again what your height/weight is/was. Did you go over all of your original reasons for choosing lap-band over GB? Honestly, if it were me, I would try for them to reposition your band. I just don't like the idea of my insides being permanently altered. I do have some friends and cousins who have had GB, so I have no issues with their decision. I do know that a few of them have gained weight back a few years after losing. Not to the degree they were, but they gained. None of them had serious medical problems due to GB. Small issues like hair loss, small bowel obstruction(well that CAN be serious, but luckily theirs wasn't). I know at least for 2 of them, they developed new addictions like smoking/drinking and one got a divorce. I don't want to scare you. It is a successful procedure for MANY people. I just know it wasn't for me. I pray you make the best decision for you and again, all the Junebees stand behind you 100%. With or without a band you are always one of us!!

I did my 6 1/2 mile walk around Lake Murray today. I've been really good about my water, vitamins and protein lately, but not that great with exercise and calories. I had an interview for another job and I have a 2nd interview this week. I may be moving too, so the decision is stressing me out a little. Enjoy California Barb! It's a great place to be! I hope everyone has a HEALTHY week!
  13. You need to get an unfill in my opinion. At least a slight one. DEMAND it from your doctor if necessary. What are you throwing up? Liquids? I am assuming you are PBing on liquids if you are unable to eat. Take it easy and don't force anything down until you are able to see the surgeon. You may just be swollen inside from the throwing up. Be glad it isn't a slip. Best of luck to you.

    Giving Up

I just noticed that you met goal WASA!! Congrats!
  15. Oh my goodness, the noises coming from my tummy scared my cat the week after sugery. You will hear a lot of gurgles for awhile! The painful hiccups are most likely the gas trapped in your system from the surgery. You will also feel weak from the anesthesia and just the fact you had surgery! Constipation is totally normal and to be expected as well. Just take it easy. Keep us posted on your progress and welcome to banded life!

    Slippage & Hiccups

You may have eaten too much or too fast. Or not chewed well enough which irritated your stoma. When I start hiccuping, I know I need to stop eating, but sometimes I hiccup an hour after I ate. A slip is different for different people. With mine, I couldn't tolerate any solid food. Some people have no restriction and can eat alot again. Just take it easy and get to see your doctor if you don't feel better soon.
  17. socalgal3

    HELLO restriction!

Good luck with the new fill and increased restriction. I hope it leads to great weight loss for you!

It's been a long time since I've been on the board

I've heard many places that when you lose a significant amount of weight, your hormones get all whacky and there is an increased chance of pregnancy. Sorry that warning was too late for ya, but congrats on the pregnancy! The good thing is, your band will still be there when you are done and hopefully you can get right back on the weight loss wagon!

    Irritated stoma/esophagus

Well, let me know what happens Ms. Dad. I'm not really puking or PBing much. I just have a sore stoma! I try my best to chew slowly and thoroughly, but I'm not 100% careful, so I will try to take it easy. It just kinda stings if I drink orange juice, coffee, etc.
  20. socalgal3

    Irritated stoma/esophagus

It's not really heartburn. It feels kinda "raw" deep in my throat. I do feel better after doing liquids for a few days, so I guess I can do that again. It just seems to happen so often, I'm sick of being on liquids!
  21. socalgal3

    Irritated stoma/esophagus

I had an endoscopy to rule out erosion when I had the slip in January. Nothing since then.
  22. socalgal3

Okay. I'm going to try again.

If you threw up 3 times yesterday, you probably shouldn't be eating prime rib, a baked potato and bread today. You should rest your stoma/pouch after numerous PBs and or vomiting episodes. I agree with Wheetsin that you discuss with your doctor any alternative forms of your medications. Some have a liquid or chewable form, or even a time-release patch. I don't know what your numerous medical problems are, but they may be inhibiting your weight loss. Many medications have weight gain as a side effect. If your health problems prevent you from exercising that can also contribute. I do recommend that you go to your doctor and see if they can examine your pouch under fluoro. You may have lost some fill due to a leak or your band may have loosened due to weight loss of 40 lbs. Drinking with your meals works for some people, but I can't do it. It is also known to wash everything quickly through the pouch leaving you hungrier sooner. Hopefully, it is not a slip. Best of luck to you!

    nutritional values

I use SparkPeople. It has a pretty good directory. You can look online for a book. I got a pocket guide from my pharmacy that has quite a few food values and even fast food/restaurant chain values.
  24. You look fabulous dah-ling! I hope to be comfortable in a 2 piece by next summer!

Leece- I'm glad your husband is home and healing. I also have asthma and I used to get bronchitis every winter. Last year was the first year in ages that I hadn't. I think losing weight and being more active and eating healthier really helped me. As far as books, I also love to read, but maybe you should check out your local library, used book store or try to find used books online on Amazon or eBay. That could save you alot! I swap with friends and people at work, so that saves me book $$. Barnes and Noble will rip you off! Pinky- I guess no one joined our challenge, so it's just you and me. I am going to a party tonight(Studio 54 party for a co-worker's 50th bday), so I'll send you a photo either as a PM or in your personal email. You better do the same!
