  1. Hello;

I have been researching all this information and I am quite comfortable with Mexico and Dr.Aceves I think. I am waiting to hear if I am a good candidate for the Sleeve. Too much aftercare in the Band I think. Looking for feedback from anyone in Canada. I want to do this soon and wondered if there is anyone looking to have a buddy to go there with for a procedure? I am in Ontario but anywhere is OK as we have to get to San Diego anyway. This is a huge expense but I really need to do this somehow. The more feedback the better .. Thank you

  2. thebariatricgroup.com is advertising that they charge 5500 USD for the lapnband. I am also interested in this but I am trying to find people that have had it done there for references.

I have received the same from Dr. Kelly TJ for 5500.

I am more interested in the sleeve and want feedback from anyone in Canada wanting to go or has been there but I am going to go to Mexicala - Dr Aceves I think. Price is the same and he has done far more surgury in this area.

Why do people go for the band rather than sleeve?

    Is it cost?

Tempting for that price for sure but like I said I don't think I am going to go with the band if they accept me for sleeve.

Why is the Canadian dollar so worthless ? Sure didn't take long to go from at par to 132 for 1 USD ..crap:mad:

My timing always was bad

  3. Hello everyone. My name is Daniel. I've been lurking around this site for months as a visitor. The information on the site helped me choose to have the "sleeve" instead of the lap band (the sleeve was just better for me). I wanted to officially join the site as a member now to let everyone know I had surgery on January 5, 2009. I couldn't have done it without you guys. You all are a wealth of knowledge and an inspiration when I need it. Since the surgery I have lost 60 pounds (initial weight-347) and am below 300 pounds for the first time since 1991 when I was 18 years old. I don't want to sound like I'm "tooting my own horn" but you all are a big part of my success. Thank you all.

    Daniel

Congrats Dan! I am considering sleeve also and want to find who does surgury's? I got a reply from one Doc. (Kelly) but who else will do these? I don't see it on Dr. Ortiz site. Any recommedations? I am in Canada. Thanks and keep up great work and keep me posted on progress please :w00t:)

  4. Hello.. I am also considering having the lapband surgery in Mexico.. I am in canada and feel the cost is too high here. Do you feel safe about your decision?

    Thanks

Hi there.. I am also researching options. I am in Ontario Canada and it is 16,000 self pay only. I can go 1/2 hr over border for 16,000 USD but the exchange is not so good. Mexico seems to be ok from all I have read but in the event of issues it's a flight back is my only concern there. The price difference is crazy.I see US people getting coverage somehow. That would be nice. Big decision to make here for sure especially if it ends up having to be removed and start over again with another 16,000? eek. Reading these forums has helped me learn ALOT!

  5. Just curious...are you saying these things caused a slippage? I know smoking & caffeine are on the 'NO' list, but I hadn't heard anything about the others causing problems for banders (I know artificial sweetners cause some problems for RnY patients). I'm a chocolate fiend and have been collecting recipes with artificial sweetners.

Hope you all come through this well. Best Wishes.

I am not banded but just been looking into all the options and reading a lot. This is the first I have seen about coffee and smoking. What does that mean? I do both regularly:scared2:

  6. I am 9 days out from surgery and i have the same pain...and was not expecting to be hurting this much for so long... I am also sore in the port site sitting and standing sometimes walking... Yesterday i was able to lay flat and can lay on one side but still am more comfrotable sleeping on the recycliner. I wonder sometime how I will make through work on Monday. I still have pain meds but I stopped talking them about 3 days ago... I have pain but it is toleratable. I think for me I got very stressed and became an emotional wreck 4 days out of surgery when my husband walked out on me.... so dealing with the kids and the stress I think has added to my recovery time... I see the doc this Friday so I am hoping everything is still okay and I am just a slow healer... It is still very swollen in the port area only.

    hope this helps you some!

OMG what a supportive guy! Not! I am so sorry. Remember this is for you though and your gonna be one hot mama and show him it's what he lost. Not sure how old the kids are but hopefully they will help mom get back on her feet. Mine are kids are better off and it's been 5 yrs. I have not had surgury but am just looking inot it now seriousy but 16,000 wow not sure how I can do that as a single mom. I really want to badly though. You take care of you and make the ex feel sorry to see how wonderful you are!
