  1. i don't know why some people just don,t lose weight.regardless. i am one of those people 2. i had aband than a revision 2 gastric bypass, 4 months later i found a lump and was diagnosed with breast cancer. my doctor said that the breast cancer treatment was more important than the weight loss. after 5 years of treatment, chemo, radiation immunosuppressive medication.there will be no weight loss success. making that journey of my life a total waste

  2. I'm so happy to see this thread here. I have been a member of LBT for well over a year and love it here. I had open RNY on Aug 27th. No revision. I serously thought about the band for over a year and then decided RNY was the way to go for me. So far so good. I have my drain removed on Tues. (I'll be happy to see that thing go).

I can't wait to hear everyones stories.

explain to me what the drain is i am schedule for a revision on 10/25/11

  3. Hello everyone!

I had joined this site because I was in the process of getting the lapband....

Well today I had my 'official' consult with the surgeon and he really believes that the Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass is my best option due to my weight.

I had mixed emotions about it but now that I have reviewed everything and talked with my family I do agree with what he had to say.

So my question is----why have you changed from the band to the Gastric Bypass?

I also want to point out how glad I am that there is a forum on here for us who started out as 'bandsters' because I have made some friends on these forums already and did not want to leave :-)

i had the band almost 3 years ago i am scheduled for a revision to the gastric bypass next month

  4. Well it's been almost six weeks since my RNY surgery and since then I've done pretty well but I'm human and haven't been perfect.

Partially due to my type 2 diabetes I've always been a sugar craver (chicken/egg thing) and having the lap band didn't help with that situation which is why I never lost weight. The sugary foods would slide right through my band no matter what restriction I had.

With the RNY most of my sugar cravings have gone but as I told a friend here at LBT I was dreading the fact that it was my daughter's bday today and I had this massive chocolate cake in my house!

Now like I said most of my sugar cravings have gone but I'm only human and that cake was staring me in the . So I tried a bit of the creamy parts that I knew I could possibly tolerate. It was a demonic cake  that had a layer of raspberry mousse, vanilla cheesecake, chocolate cake and then topped with a covering of chocolate ganache!

I ate some, 15 minutes later I was experiencing dumping syndrome for my very first time. I felt nauseous and thought I could just relieve that feeling with a pb but no such luck. Then the hot sweats began and the stomach was churning and it was just not pretty! It was bad enough to avoid this ever happening again, I hope!! But I am happy that it happened because I am far from perfect and so far with this surgury the weight is coming off and I still have a lot more to lose and do not want to go backwards like I did before!! Well better go, have to call an old priest and a young priest to give my refrigerator an exorcism:drool: Nancy,

what did you end up doing .i am going for my cardiac treadmill work up on wednesday 08/10/11. on the road again to my success

  5. Well I decided to come by here today, and I'm glad I did.

I was banded 3/21/07. I lost 50 lbs before surgery. After surgery I had lost another 18-20 lbs, but now have gained most of that back (the 18-20 lbs - still down the 50 I lost before surgery)

For me my issue has been my port. It has flipped on me twice, which prevents me from any exercises with stretching (including swimming)

January of 08 the surgeon went in and fixed the first flip (after telling me for MONTHS that it was normal the pain I was having)

Then I waited 8 weeks (he had said 4-6 weeks) before even attempting to exercise - then SURPRISE - the port flipped again.

Since then my surgeon was unable to fill the port without floroscopy, and I just can't afford that ($75 copay). So instead of having ANOTHER surgery to fix the port of a tool which isn't doing me any good without restriction and exercise, I have made the decision to revise to RNY.

My boss asked me to wait till after the holidays due to work being too busy at that time, so the band removal is scheduled for 1/5/09 and the RNY is scheduled for 2/24/09!!!

    how did things go

  6. Hey...I am scheduled to have my band removed and converted to the gastric bypass next monday. I am wondering if there are others out there who can tell me their experience? I have heard it's harder to lose weight if you've had the band before the bypass. Is this true for some out there?

hi i'm researching the samething.i havent found any information

  7. Jill,

I don't want to sound like a broken record but I had the lap band and wasn't able to lose the weight like you had and also my diabetes was worse during that time and went back on my metformin. I ended having my band removed due to GERD and the fact I was gaining instead of losing and a few months after that decided to revise to RNY after gaining even more weight.

I was never insulin dependend like you but was probaby heading in that direction. They took me off my meds when I was banded because they assumed I would get better and didn't. They did the same thing after I had my RNY and my sugar levels have been normal. I'm also lucky in a way that I experience "dumping syndrome" if I eat too much sugar. Basically I feel very sick to my stomach if I eat too much sugar and it's not a good feeling.

Anyway sorry about your car accident and the fact you had to have your band removed when you didn't want it to be but I'm just letting you know that RNY doesn't mean the end of the world if you decide to go in that direction. It's made a positive change in my life and my daughter's also. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, Nancy.

I HAD THE LAP BAND 2 YEARS AGO AND I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS.I AM NOW CONSIDERING THA BYPASS.WAS YOURS (GBP) DONE LAPROSCOPIC ? I AM A SELF PAY AND WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF MY POCKET.

  8. Thanks Jack:

Wow. I know about that diabetic retinopathy. My son is a type 1 diabetic who has had poor control since he was in his teens. He's 31 now and almost 4 years ago he lost his sight due to his diabetes. Diabetes is a really nasty disease that affects almost every organ in the body. It even affected his teeth and he has full dentures at his young age. So yea, I am awaiting the miracle as I do not want to have any of these types of problems the rest of my life.

Thanks so much for sharing with me.

    Kay

  9. Great tips! It's hard... I call it the "New Eating Paradigm" and I am still working on it six months out from surgery, and one fill into the process.

I have a tendency to lean towards getting out the blender for meats. I already love Protein shakes to no end, so, me and the blender are great friends. I just still feel weird when my wife and I try to cook and eat a meal together, and I want to enjoy the food whole rather than sit there and drink a weird looking, but good tasting blend...

I've tried to cut things into smaller bits, and really don't have too many problems on good nights. Work has been tough lately, and I have been coming home feeling like a zombie, and there's where things get lost.

I was thinking about trying to get home when I am like that, have a Protein shake, let that settle and take care of any emotional cravings, and then try to cook and eat a little. That's just a long process, especially when I get home later in the evening...

I don't know... Just thinking... And trying.

STRESS FROM WORK/LIFE TIRED EMOTIONS CAN PLAY HAVOC WITH THE STOMACH.SOMETIMES YOU CAN DO IT RIGHT BUT THE STRESSORS CAN MAKE YOU DO THAT.SO THAT MAKES THIS A DAILY JOURNEY.I HAVE HAD MY Fluid TOTALLY REMOVED FOR ALMOST 6 WKS.AND HAVE NOTIVED THE LAST WEEK WITH ALL THE STRESSORSOF JOB CHANGE , FAMILY ISSUES,HOLIDAY PLANS OF HAVING ALL MY FAMILY COMING TO MY HOUSE AND DOING EVERYTHING ALONE THAT MY GERD HAS BEEN ACTING UP. INCREASE BELCHING WITH NO Fluid.< /p>

  10. Having some problems ARRRGGG. I was banded Jan 11th and was doing fine losing weight, not hungry etc. Dr decided to do a fill on April 1st while it was still free. I ended up too tight and had some taken out on the 4th. Since then it's been terrible. I have been doing Water aerobics 5 days a week since August. I added strength training 2 days a week on April 11th. Since my fill and unfill and adding the strength training I've only lost 5 pounds in the last 7 weeks. I think my clothes are getting looser but nothing is happening on the scale. I have been doing mostly low carb high Protein. Not perfect had a small piece of birthday cake and a couple spoons of potato salad a little rice in the last couple of months. I can eat more than I did at first, probably a cup of food depending on what it is. It's not like I'm stuffing myself or doing a lot of high sugar or high calorie foods. I don't know what to do to start the weight loss again and I'm frustrated. I stopped my Protein Shake to cut calories and now I'm wondering if I should do the liquid diet to get things moving again. I was throwing up after the fill ,unfill thing and I wonder if my band slipped or something. I don't have any pain but not feeling much restriction either and I get hungry now. Any advice would be appreciated.:(

IF YOU ARE NOT FLEMING OR THROWING UP ABLE TO KEEP FOOD AND liquids DOWN,THAN YOU PROBABLY HAVEM'T SLIPPED CALL YOUR MD GET IT CHECK.I WENT THREW THE THROWING UP EVEN WATER ALMOST 6 WEEKS AGO HAD TO HAVE A TOTAL UNFILL,NO SLIPPAGE JUST TILTED.LOST 11LBS.HAVE GAINED IT BACK CAN TELL.BUT ITS ALL GOOD.STILL IN 8/10'S.GO BACK TO MD ON TUESDAY FOR A FILL OHHH WHAT A RELIEF THAT WILL BE. 6 WKS NO RESTRICTION OR FLUIDS.GOOD LUCK

  11. I HAVE NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED MYSELF ANYWHERE NEAR A SKINNYBITCH.MY PERCEPTION AND OTHER PERCEPTION ARE LIGHT YEARS APART.MY BAND HAD BEEN EMPTY FOR 4 WEEKS ,AND I CANT WEEEIIGGHHT TO HAVE MY SALINE PUMPED IN AND GET SOMMMEE RESTRICTIN BACK.NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD MISS IT.THAN ITS ON A JOURNEY BACK TO ANYTHING NECESSARYIN THE BACK TO REALITY WORLD.:D

  13. Well, seeing as I've had both the lap band and now I'm sleeved I can tell you I truly love being sleeved far more. I won't get into details out in the open simply because this is a Lap Band support website and I must respect that, and I absolutely do.

I just wanted to say that elfiepoo and biriniak both had excellent responses and are very spot on. I always just like to say, the lap band IS NOT reversible. It is removable... then again there have been some where that is not entirely true either.

    Questions: PM me.

All the best in your decision... and know that it is YOUR decision. :)

respond to me via email i would like to know why you had the lap band removed the sleeve placed and was it covered by insurance, were you a self pay

  14. I am about to have the lapband procedure but I am having difficulty finding a clinic that will do the fills and aftercare. I am living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and will have the procedure done in Cancun. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

be careful b/c doctors dont like dealing with other doctors pts poat surgery.first locate a doctor aoclinic near you that would take you on as a patient before yoy have this surgery.to minimize your headache.

  16. Hello..it only been 2 weeks and I still have sticthes in..as soon as they r gone i will be working out for sure. My Husband is in the USMC so I got the band in NC but now we r stationed in VA. I have been driving back and forth to NC for care. I was hoping for help from my doctor but I am only his 2nd patient that had to have thier band removed, so he dose not have anything in place as far as a team for people like me. The band cause a very bad infection in my liver and kidneys. I was in the hospital for 5 days, with a tube up my nose down into my tummy, so healing has been real slow. I just feel so bad now i dont have the band. I have lost 150 pounds and the idea of being fat again scare me so. I was hopeing that someone has been thought this so they can give me some ideas. I called my doctor today and i am hopeing to get into a support group.

i think that regardless of the weight loss you will most likely hav ethe fat syndrome in your head.I know that i do.i have gone from a size 20/22 2to a 8/10.i dont see what other people see, I see the back of a hippopotamus ass when i look in the mirror.today i have on a pair of size 8 cordiroy pants a medium tshirt with a long sleeve shirt underneath and still feel super fat.sometimes when I go by a long mirror i ask myself if that is me.yet i am still not happy with me.when i reach my goal i will be in a by a WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY MODE to keep the weight off. I PROMISE YOU THAT.I THINK THAT MOST PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH WHAT WE HAVE WILL DO THE SAME THING.!!!!I i HAD TO HAVE MY Fluid REMOVED 3 WEEKS AGO DUE TOO TILTING.BUT AM DETERMINED NOT TO GAIN ALL THAT WEIGHT.I HAVE FINALLY REALIZED THAT I AM ADDICTED TOO FOOOD!!!! ONLY YOU PERSONALLY HAVE GONE ON YOUR JOURNEY WITH YOUR BODY.SOOOO WHAT YOU GON DOOO?YOU HAVE LOST 150LBS.SO GET RID OF THE BAND WITH ALL THESE PROBLEMS,EMBRACE THE WEIGHT LOSS,THANK GOD ALMIGHTY!! NOW TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE.WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH FROM NOW ON ONLY YOU CAN CONTROL.WITH THE WAY THE WORLD THAT IS THE ONLY THING IN THE WORLD THAT YOU CAN CONTROL.

I've been banded for 4 mths and I've never have had problems with milk I was even drinking milk after my surgery until a couple of months ago I started having problems with it and got sick well I thought maybe I will give it a try one more time and tried some yesterday and took a drink and when it hit my belly I got sicker then a dog! I have no problems with other dairy products just plain oh milk! Is it time to start trying different alternatives cause I love milk it just decide it don't like me? Help please!

since being banded when i consume dairy products i tend to be more mucusy and slimy so i avoid any dairy as much as possible
