I got a fill on Thursday, 1cc. I really had lost a lot of restriction but it had been about 2 months since my last fill and I had only lost 3lbs. When I left the office on Thursday I drank some water right away and it hurt and came back up. Me being the stubborn and stupid person that I am figured, oh well it will loosen up!! Ha ya right. Anyway it is now Sunday and I can't drink any liquids, tea water etc... I am able to eat a very small amount of mushies, but fluid will not stay down at all. Has this every happened to anyone, it just seems like the fluid is so thin it comes back up. I did call the doctor on call today and he said to give it another 24-48 hours. My opinion is that he just doesn't want to have to come in for an unfill this holiday weeked. Any suggestions would be helpful cause I am THIRSTY!!!

Just wondering if anyone has used the protein shots from GNC. Supposedly they are like 40gm of protein in one shot. I don't know if this would really work or be a good idea. I have really having trouble getting my protein in. Meat is not going down well at all. It takes sooo long to eat it, it's not worth it. I am so sick of protein shakes, I do eat a protein bar every morning. My hair is really starting to fall out, and it wasn't thick to begin with. I am using the Biotin and special shampoo. Any idea's suggestions?? I heard somewhere that your body can only use a certain amount of protein at a time, so I don't know if these shots would be effective or not!

with the scale. What is wrong with me. I weighed on Monday and was down a total of 50lbs, I was so excited!! Then against my better judgment I weighed again today and gained 2lbs..ughh. Now I am a nurse, and know it's probably fluid blah blah but why can't I just weigh once a week?? I swear I am thinking of throwing this stupid scale out the window. How did you keep yourself from being obsessed with the scale?

Post-Op Heartburn/Acid Reflux?
nurseab24 replied to JennTheMermaid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started before surgery with severe acid reflux on Nexium. For about 2 weeks post op, my reflux was terrible. I was even taking Tums which I never had to do before surgery. I told my husband that if it didn't get better soon I was getting this thing taken out. After about 2 weeks, it disappeard and has been fine since. I still take my Nexium and prob always will. -
I went in today for my second fill. My first was on 2/25/10 and that was 1.5cc. I have had a couple stuck episodes but I am almost sure that it was user error(too fast, too big) Well I laid down on the table, doc asked me how I was doing, told him about the couple episodes so he says he will just give me a small amount. Then he asked how much I had lost since last fill and when I told him 10lbs, he said NO MORE right now. He said I was losing too fast and they only want me to lose 1/2 to 1lb a week. Are you freaking kidding me. Ughhh I at least wanted a little more. Anyone else have this problem

Protein Shots anyone??
nurseab24 replied to nurseab24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only have 1.5cc in my band and have only had one fill. I went yesterday for my second fill and the doctor wouldn't give me one. He said I had lost too much weight since 4 weeks ago(10lbs) ha imagine that...me losing too much weight. I thought that was kind of silly but he said he only wants 1/2 to 1lb a week. I am just so sick of the shakes. I think I might try the shots, it has to be better than nothing!! What brand of cookies and cream shake do you love? -

Life is good today....
nurseab24 replied to scpd755's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What an awesome story!!! We adopted our daughter at birth on Dec 21st. I had my surgery on Jan 13th. This is what I am looking forward to, walking through the zoo without back pain, and without thinking that I am gonna die LOL CANT WAIT!!!! -
Did something very naughty, paid for it BIG time
nurseab24 replied to voodoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG this same thing happened to me today...although it was a toasted ravioli. NEVER AGAIN. I have had two bad stick episodes and both times were while I was driving. When will I learn LOL. I think my biggest problem is that I am not paying attention when I am driving and I eat to BIG and too FAST -
Ok so today I think I had my first stuck epidose. I actually thought I had already had two, but they were nothing like today. I just want to explain what happened so you all can tell me if this is all normal. At lunchtime I was out and about and feeling hungry so I stopped and got something that I knew that I probably shouldn't eat....but you know. Anyway it was a White Castle(little slider burger) After my first bite, I knew it wasn't gonna be good, it started with the hiccips, then I got an EXCRUTIATING PAIN in the sternal area, then I had to pull over and fill the bag with some thick slimey stuff(I know TMI) it wasn't really vomit just mucousy yuck!! Anyway after a little while I felt better. Then tonight for dinner I made a baked potato with a little ff cheese. I had a couple of bites and WHAM it all started again except this time it hurt even worse. The only thing I could think to do was drink Water, WRONG came flying back out. Anyway is it normal for this to happen 2x in one day(is it because it is swollen or something) No one told me about all this stuck/slime stuff before my surgery so am I supposed to go back to liquids for a while or something? Now I just feel yucky/nauseous. The other weird part. I have only had one fill and only have 1.5cc in my band. I am scheduled for another fill on 3/25 but now I am a little scared to get more. I don't want to have this happen all the time. Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Holy Mother of STUCK!!!!
nurseab24 replied to nurseab24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes this afternoon the first bite was probably a bit too big and chewed well enough because I was sosooo hungry, but tonight I was still freaked out so I took tiny bites and chewed really well. I am thinking I am probably still swollen -

It's been about two hours and I am still sick to my stomach!! -
Hi all I am having my first fill tomorrow. I am excited although I know that I will probably not get restriction the first couple fills. I am ust excited to be moving in the right direction!! My doctor does all of his fills under fluoroscopy so I am not nervous at all about the fill. My question is this. They have not really told me about my restrictions with my diet after the fill. I was told not to eat or drink anything after 9am(my fill is at 1:30) but they did not tell me anything aout after the fill. Do I need to do Clear liquids, just liquids, mushies or what?? What were your rules?? Thanks

Ok so I really screwed up today bad. I was banded on Jan 13. I have been doing ok since then, but don't go for a fill until next Thursday, so my band is empty right now. I have really been trying hard to make the right choices and not eat too much, but today I was soooo bad. I was in the office today(usually work from home) and they ordered pizza. I got the lunch special which is a small salad and personal thin crust pizza, I ate a few bites of salad, but I ate the WHOLE freakin pizza. WTH is wrong with me?? I think I was doing ok before I have lost about 25lbs since surgery but I hope I didn't just sabotage myself. In the past, once I "cheated" on a diet, I just gave up. Please lord don't let me do this again. Anyone else mess up and eat too much before being filled?

Oh gosh Vita-Rain. I sooo bought some of that and it was really good. I was drinking about two a day of them. All of a sudden I was having a really hard time sleeping, I couldn't fall asleep or stay asleep and I couldn't figure out why. Then it dawned on me, the Vita-rain. I checked the bottle, and I'll be darn that stuff has caffiene in it. I have never been good at handling caffeine. Anyway, it's good just be careful if your like me and caffeine LOL

Thanks for replies. I know I can do this!! I just cannot wait until I get some restriction. I will do better tomorrow. My surgery went well except for the bad reaction that I had to anesthesia (scoline pain aka post op myalgia). To better explain, it felt as though I had been hit by a mack truck LOL. I laugh now, but at the time it was not funny at all. I couldn't even move my arms or legs. I was also rehospitalized the day after d/c due to dehydration but truly think it all stems from anesthesia problem that I had. Luckily it only lasted about three days. I will make sure that from now on, if I ever have to have general anesthesia again that they DO NOT give me Succinylcholine. It is a common muscle relaxer given during surgery but can cause problems in some people. Other than that I have been doing well. I can feel my port if I push on it, but it does not hurt or anything. I don't "feel" the band, but I definatly know it is there. The other day I had my first "stuck" episode because I didn't pay attention when I was eating. Oh god I hope I don't do that again OUCH.

I was just wondering what the reasoning behind not using a straw is? My doctor never mentioned this to me and I have been using a straw since I came out of surgery. I haven't had any pain with using a straw, but the last 3 days I have been having really bad acid reflux in the afternoon and evenings. Maybe because I am using a straw?? I was banded on 1/13 and do not get a fill until 2/25 so my band is empty. I really wish I knew what was causing this acid reflux. I take Nexium and had reflux before surgery but it was well controlled and I never got "heartburn" Now I have been getting it pretty bad. Any other ideas as to why or what could be causing it? I have been drinking some iced tea which of course has caffeine, maybe that's it. But gosh I really need something to keep me awake at work LOL. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I love my bad so far and don't want reflux to be a problem

Why no straws and reflux ???'s
nurseab24 replied to nurseab24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ya I guess that makes sense. I have been feeling like I need to burp but have trouble doing it, also sometimes when I burp a little of the liquid comes up with it ewwww. I will try getting rid of the straw!! Thanks -
I'm so hungry...help???
nurseab24 replied to lamar44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow seems like everyone else's doctor's are strict with the post op diet. I was on liquids for only one week and it really wasn't bad, because I didn't feel like eating. But by the end of the 1st week I was starting to get hungry and then was able to start on mushies. I am still on mushies right now, but they also have crackers listed on my mushy list. I think I would have died if I would have been on liquids more than a week. I have really pushed the bar with what I call "mushy" and I have reflux really bad now, so I need to get back on the wagon!! -
Are you drinking anything grape or purple? That's what always does the green poop to me!

Tips for not drinking after eating?
nurseab24 replied to k-statearmywife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello my name is Amy and I am a drinker too!! I swear, before I was banded I could have a drink sitting with me to eat and I would never drink it, but now that I know I CAN'T do it, I am soooo thirsty when I eat. It's funny what our minds can do to us LOL. I am going to try the ice thing too!! -
Is this what they call "bandster hell"
nurseab24 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so I was banded on 1/13. I wasn't hungry at all until about 2 days ago when my apetite came back!!! This really sucks. Since surgery I had lost 23lbs but I weighed this morning and gained 2lbs. I really think I was totally dehydrated and I am hoping that my body is just holding on to everything I put in at right now. Does anyone have any suggestions on helping to curb this hunger. I really don't want to gain any of this weight back and I am not scheduled for a fill until 2/25. Right now I am still on mushies and everything that they have on my list is pretty much carbs, except eggs and cheese. The other stuff is mashed potatoes, cream Soup, noodles etc... Those are the foods that got me into this problem in the first place. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Signed, Hungry(Amy) -
Hi adennis I dont have all the answers to your questions because I was just banded on 1/14/09, but I am from Wentzville!! I also went to SSM with Dr.DeLatorre. I am a littel shy of 2 weeks out and feeling pretty good. I think I am getting to that point that they call bandster hell!! I just started to actually feel hungry a couple days ago. If you have questions or just want to talk send me a message or you can email me at nurseab24@yahoo.com!!

nurseab24 replied to dowhatitdo1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started mushies last night so this morning I had 1 scrambled egg with 1 slice ff american chese melted in. It was ohhhh sooo good after those liquids!! I still can't take in very much at a time so I am just going slow. It took me about 45min to get the whole scrambled egg in LOL
