  1. Gotbandedo8, Can you go for another fill or two? It's impossible for me to overeat! I just can't hold the food. Could that be your problem? Exercise is always a challenge but the recumbent bike has worked well for me and my bad knees!

    Indecisive Newbie Here

My only regret is that I couldn't or didn't have this sooner! I was banded on 12/23/08 and have lost 50 pounds so far.

lap band surgery with hernia in abdomen

Hello Katydid, My brother in law is fine now. I am so sorry that you have suffered so with this infection. The following is a dr's description of staff infection. It seems we carry it in our bodies... Staph is not contagious in the usual sense, however. We all periodically have staph on our skin and even in our noses, and most staph infections come from bacteria that have "colonized" us for some time. If you have contact with a person with impetigo, you could pick up their staph and develop an infection. But such contact will not automatically cause you to develop a bloodstream infection, so being around a patient with this problem is usually not a major concern. Many years ago, nearly all strains of staph could be killed by penicillin. But staph bacteria soon became resistant to the drug, and researchers created synthetic forms of penicillin such as oxacillin and methicillin to treat staph infections. In the 1970s, however, some S. aureusstrains developed resistance to all of the penicillins. Because laboratories routinely use methicillin to identify resistance to drugs in the penicillin family, these resistant strains were named MRSA for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It became necessary to use vancomycin (Vancocin), an antibiotic that is unrelated to penicillin, to treat such infections. In the last few years, over half of all staph infections of patients in some hospitals are MRSA, narrowing the treatment options. Also, there are now strains that are at least relatively resistant even to vancomycin. It is thus very important to prevent the spread of drug-resistant strains among patients in the hospital, most of whom have intravenous catheters in place and are susceptible to developing staph infections. Outside of the hospital, however, most S. aureus strains are still vulnerable to penicillins. Since serious infections acquired outside the hospital are relatively uncommon, MRSA is not the type of infection most of us have to worry about. It is not spread by airborne routes, and even if you become colonized with a resistant strain, the chance of your developing a serious infection is rather low.

lap band surgery with hernia in abdomen

My brother in law had a pace maker installed surgically in December. He too contacted the staph infection MRSA and was in intensive care for over 2 weeks. It's very, very serious and contagious. There was a quartined sign on his door and they brought my sister's meals to the room along with his ( to keep her out of the dining room, I'm sure.) Some do not recover. Thank God that you are mending and on the road to perfect health!

    60 with alot of questions

Hello Christa, I've lost 50 pounds since I was banded on 12/23/08. It is 8/3/09 now. I had a hiatial hernia and my dr had informed me that IF I did he would repair it before surgery. I did. He did. I had no complications. Went home the same day of the banding. I have not had a Prilosec for reflux since the surgery. Dr. Richard is with Obesity Solutions in Gainesville, Georgia. He is wonderful! Good luck and don't give up. Find another dr. Shirley
  8. I was banded 12-23-08. After the first two weeks the swelling went down and my HUNGER returned! :w00t: I went by my book and ate the foods recommended BUT I sometimes had more than it said. I had 1/2 cup more soup or an extra sf pudding. I told my doc about this. As I said before if I could have done it on my own I would have! Sometimes I would munch on a raw vegetable. Anything on my list of OK foods. It helps with the gnawing hunger and better than caving in with a bag of popcorn! I don't know if this helps and it might not be the perfect solution, but if I'm starving and my stomach is growling I usually feed it! I have lost 30 pounds now.
  9. Wow all of your stories are great.I don't seem to be doing that well I weighed 217 on my surgery day 12/31/09 and today 04/05/09 I only weigh 210 pounds. My progress don't seem as successful as everyone elses, what do I need to do?I should at least be losing 8-10 lbs a month right putting me at 187lbs losing 30lbs or so.I'm eating oatmeal everyday, having a weight watchers meal with about 250-300 calories per meal, and drinking lots of green tea to boost my metabolism. Why is this task so hard for me?Someone pls help~~~~~~~~ You are doing great! Lap band is a slow process. How many fills have you had? A lot of people feels no restriction for several months. If we could have done it on our own we would have. You are being too hard on yourself. Love yourself for losing 10 pounds! Have you pictured 10 pounds of butter? That's 40 sticks! You have lost that much. As your band is tightened you will lose more! Great job! Keep up the good work! You didn't mention Protein. Are you drinking your Protein Drink? :smile2:

    I'm failing my band!

You know most of the world does not understand obesity! We have spent a large part of our life feeling ashamed because we have weight issues. Society thinks that we are lazy slobs and we carry the guilt of that! We are not! Stand tall and be proud of who you are. It's difficult but you can do it! I think that we all have a lot of emotional issues to overcome. Embrace yourself for what you have done! If your doctor is not understanding find a new one! If you are filled correctly you will not eat as much food! Instead of being a "wanna lose" become a "gonna lose!" You go girls! :party:We can all help each other!
  11. Same here! I've only lost 30 pounds but I am wearing long sleeves on warm spring Georgia days! My hubby is a polar bear! It's very good to know that we are all experiencing the same thing! Actually as I change sizes it's sorta fun to pick out a sweater or a cute sweatshirt!

Apnea and will NOT use Cpap

I had my surgery 12-23-08. I was told to bring my CPAP. I did. They never asked for it and surgery was fine. You are only 22 and that explains why you have problems with it. I would recommend that you at least keep the machine because you might change your mind. Especially if insurance took care of the cost for you. I am going on a cruise in 3 months and I know that the people I am going to share a room with will be very glad that I have a CPAP machine!! LOL  I wish you the very best with your surgery!
  13. I am so glad that I found this post. I had my surgery on 12-23-08. I have lost 30.5 pounds. I feel like I'm not doing so well BUT reading this has helped a lot! I have had 3 fills. The last one has caused a little choking with meals. Usually when I eat too fast. I have to excuse myself, go to the restroom and get it up and out! Even though this has happened a couple of times I'm still not sure if the band is small enough. I know that changes with weight loss, etc. I also think stress could be a factor of the food not going down well. Am I correct? Has anyone else had that problem?

    5 Day Pouch Test

Hello. This is my first time here. My question is do you add Protein powder to your Starbucks Mocha? Is the drink alone enough protein? Thanks! I had my surgery 12/23/08. I am 40 days out with 20.5 pound loss. It's still fairly new to me!
