    when do others notice?

I'm going through the same thing. I have always been extremely extroverted, and social. But, now I want to go out and see and do more things. I'll say this, and some will think it's absolutely horrible to think/say, but, I now enjoy not being the "fattest" person in the room. Before, I was the fattest person in the room abut 99% of the time. I carried my weight really well, I have always been told that I have an approachable, and magnetic personality, but now, it seems that I'm just more "out there". And, I'll admit, I love all the attention men are giving me. I got hit on at my highest weight, but now it's even more. John and I went on base the other day. He caught a guy checking me out, and he slapped his arm around my waist and kissed my forehead. I giggled, and told him to stop being territorial. I felt like he was going to hike his leg on my thigh. A couple of weeks before John got home, a guy waved and winked at me, Caysen decided right then and there that "no other man can think my mommy is pretty other than my daddy." I told him that men and women can find someone pretty/handsome even if they are married to someone else. We just don't go out with other people. I agree with the confidence factor. I was always confident regardless of my pant size, but now, I feel "free". I'm not constantly tugging at my clothes, or trying to "hide" certain things about my body. It's very liberating, and truly a blessing that I have been so successful thus far.
  4. I had my surgery here in Florida so I am not familiar with passport rules. VegasAngel, Cajun, or Ruthi will be able to give you a better idea of the rules since they all recently traveled south for their surgeries. Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful on this one.

  5. I couldn't stand the calcium citrate chewables, or the huge horse pills. I thought I would share that I found some liquid calcium citrate with magnesium & Vitamin D at vitacost.com It will be here this week, and I'll write a review. From what I've read, the liquid is palatable, and has great reviews from other consumers. I personally ordered the Lifetime strawberry Liquid. 3rd product listed is the one I ordered. liquid calcium citrate - Vitacost

    Hey...another newbie here!

Jeff, I'm so very glad to hear you are doing well, and I hope Thursday gets here quickly for you. Keep us posted on your progress ! ! !
  8. Hey Lis, I ordered some liquid calcium citrate with magnesium and vitamin D for maximum absorption. I can't handle the huge calcium citrate chewable tablets, or the horse pills that we're supposed to swallow. Here's the link of that I ordered from, and I haven't found any other website than can beat this place's cost.

    liquid calcium citrate - Vitacost

I ordered the Lifetime Strawberry flavored liquid. In some of the reviews, I read that this stuff supposedly helps some people get to sleep, and stops leg cramping. I just can't do the calcium citrate tablets, and this is a month supply for 12 bucks including shipping. It's a tiny dose (1 tbsp), and that's it.

I should receive it by Wednesday/Thursday of this next week, and will post a review once I give it a whirl.

    Drinking cokes anyone?

I've drank 2 sodas post-op. Grant it, it took me an entire 14 hours to drink it and I drank Water in between all day as well, but I had zero side effects from drinking it except a little belch here and there. I just sipped on it here and there, admitted it to my surgeon, and he told me that I just consumed empty calories, and to not make it a habit again. I also drank a soda here and there with my band, and had zero issues. My friend had bypass 5 years ago, and drinks soda every day of her life. She has zero side effects as well, and she weighs a mere 108lbs. I'm not sure exploding stomach could really happen unless that patient consumed a soda real fast too soon after surgery, and her body had not healed properly. I'm not discrediting what the surgeon is saying, but it just doesn't sound "right" in my mind. I steer clear of soda just because it's wasted calories.
  10. Hey Lis, when you first log in, you'll see your name in BOLD letters in the top right hand corner. Right below your name, you'll see "Private Messages" Click on those words, and it will take you to your private messages. To make friends, for example, you're reading a thread and you want to add someone. Click on their name, go to Profile, and to the right there will an option that says "Befriend" or "Send Friend Request". The page will notify if it was sent, and will give you another option, just click "YES". That's the easiest way for me to add friends. You can also go to the link at top toolbar that says "Members", it's alphabetized and you can search for members by their screen names. Once you find them, follow the same process after you access their profile page.

    Life Love and Goodwill stores

Life has been fab since the husband came home 10 days ago. We've kept ourselves busy, and just enjoy being with each other. We did have to postpone our weekend getaway because of the stupid root canal situation with my tooth. $400 hit to the pocket book was not expected, so now we're waiting on the travel voucher, and the family separation pay to come in so I can get my tooth fixed, and we can get away for a night or two. Today, we picked up an amazing weight bench, and weight plates at a garage sale then picked up more weights/dumbbells from a guy selling some of craigslist. John made a mini-gym in our garage. He worked out this afternoon, and boy, let me just say he looks smokin' hot working out. I could do without all the grunting, and heavy breathing, but I guess it comes with the territory. His working out has motivated me. I start my walking regimen on Monday morning bright and early 6:30am, and then I'll lift the little weights to help tone my arms. I'm going to get back to working out with the Wii Active and doing my stand up crunches, and lunges. My thighs are super flabby. It's gross, and I know I can tone them up. We also stopped by the Goodwill store. I bought a bunch of lightweight crop pants to go walking in, and men's t-shirts. I just can't bring myself to pay full price for clothes to work out in and that won't fit in a month. I desperately need new bras. When I bowl on Wednesday with the girls, my right boob pops out of my bra everytime I roll a ball down the lane. It gets annoying because I'm constanly readjusting myself. We're having a garage sale within the next 2 weeks. John brought home so much gear the Air Force will not take back, and it's ridiculous. 4 deployments, our garage looks like an ArmyNavy Store. The garage is so full the stuff from this last deployment has taken over our bedroom, and I even have a 45 gallon tote in my kitchen. RIDICULOUS. Not to mention the 3/40 gallon trash bags I have full of clothes from my closet and Caysen's dresser. Tomorrow, we're attacking the guest room closet to get rid of yet again more clothing. Whatever stuff we don't sell at the garage sale will go to the mission store and Goodwill. I'm almost in a 14 jean. WOOT WOOT. It's the stupid belly fat preventing me from getting into them so that has me kicked into high gear to start walking and losing the belly. I now have the "noassatall" syndrome. My hiney has completely disappeared, but my hips remain. BLAH, I hope the hips slim down once the belly gets smaller. All is well here in lovely NW Florida. It's been super hot with high humidity lately, and it makes me miserable. BUT, fall is definitely around the corner, and I can't wait. We're having family pictures taken again. We had family pics taken last December, and they came out wonderfully. I belong to a Myspace group of military spouses, and so many of them are just getting started and give great rates. This new photographer is only charging $50 for 2 hours, and 2 outfit changes, and a CD of all the edited images with a copyright release. AWESOME PRICE ! ! ! She takes great photos from what she has already taken, and I can't wait to have new pics to send to the fam for the holidays. Last year we did beach pictures, this year I think we're going to the historic district and have some great pictures for the album. I've rambled enough. Anyone who made it through all of that deserve a "no sugar added" cookie, or protein bar ! ! !

    empowering elements

    I agree 100%, it's so very wonderful to free ! ! !
  21. You probably already know this, but I asked my dermatologist about all of my scars. I have 11 on my abdomen from both surgeries, and all the drains I had to have placed. Anyways, she told me to make sure to massage in the direction of the scar. Meaning if it's a vertical scar, massage up and down, and horizontal scars massage side to side. She also mentioned not to massage any harder than you would rub a ripe tomato (as in to not cause any bruising of the fruit). This will help break up the collagen build up, and keep the adhesions/scar tissue to a minimum.

    PCP's Determination

I am so glad to hear that your labs look great, and I hope the dizziness resolves soon.
  23. How frustrating ! ! ! I won't be weaning off my Prilosec 20mg (taken once daily) until late December, and even then my surgeon wants me to take it every other day. As you know my revision was performed at a military hospital, and my surgeon just deployed. I'm pretty devastated about having to see the other "bariatric" surgeon Dr. R. I like him, and he took care of me when I was hospitalized in July with those Fluid pockets because my surgeon was TDY to Wisconsin for 2 weeks. Both of them are general surgeons, but my surgeon is head of the bariatric department and performed 85% of the bariatric procedures for the surgical group. I would try your PCP for the Zofran. Phenegran worked wonders for my nausea, but made me extremely drowsy. I would caution driving, or attempting to work while taking it (you probably already know that, but thought I would throw out my experience). And, just to let you know our surgical group took some cuts to the GS (civi) positions. They lost the surgery coordinator, a med tech and a receptionist.

    NSV shout outs

Mine is from the my revision date of June 3rd, 2009. I lost 25-27 pounds the first 3 months post-op with the band. Once I lost restriction, had the flipped port complications, I started gaining back the weight. As of my revision date, I had only lost a total of 7 pounds with the band. So, I gained back about 18lbs before my revision surgery. The day of my revision I weighed in at 263, today I weighed in at 179 4.5 months revision post-op. I didn't have to do a real pre-op diet. 7 days before my revision, I had to do low carbs (less than 30grams) per day.
  25. I'm 4.5 months out from my band to sleeve revision, and have yet to feel "real hunger". My stomach has never growled, I forget to eat quite frequently, and have had to set an alarm on my Iphone to remind me to eat. I can tell I need to eat because I may get a little listless, and that's a clear indication that I need calories. Head hunger is completely different battle than real hunger. I have pretty much learned how to listen to my body instead of my head. Like Helen, I'll occasionally have a "snack or a treat", but it's all in moderation. I've learned to eat to live not live to eat since my revision.
