What Protein Supplement do you Prefer?

I have not seen the Nectar protein water, but I did try the Nectar fuzzy navel powder in water and it was not too bad. Still not as good as my chocolate truffel one, but I was able to drink it which I have not been able to say about the other Nectar ones I tried in water. Although this time I did use more than 8 onces of water. It says on the package to use 8-16 onces and I think they may be better with more water.

Okay Bunnies... who have you told?

JayTee, it is funny you should say that. I work in the hospital where I am having my surgery Thursday. it was not covered under our insurance until the physician went to the president and told him that if he was going to do this surgery at the hospital there was no way they could deny the employees. So starting Jan 1 2009 it is covered for us. So far we have had quite a few people that have either had the surgery or are in the process. So I am extremely grateful for what my surgeon did for us.

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Glad to be of service Scooby.. I even let my sister taste my shake yesterday and she liked it too. I think I will keep this stuff on hand all the time. Then when the rest of the family makes milkshakes i can make one of these instead..LOL I hope you like it too.

What Protein Supplement do you Prefer?

I have tried quite a few protein powders and so far I have only found one I like. Actually I really love it and it tastes just like a milkshake. It is Nectar brand and the flavor is chocolate truffle. I mix it in the blender with a cup of fat free lactaid milk and a half a banana. It is good without the banana, a little sweet, but way better with the banana. I am still trying to find another one I like so I dont burn out on the one I love and trying to find something I like mixed with water too.

    I did it! 04-08-2009

Well congratulations. Hope all is going well. I cant wait till it is my turn. I go this coming Thursday April 16th. I am getting mine done here at my little local hospital Atlantic General in Berlin. So how are you liking the Isopure drinks? I have bought a few of those and a few of those 3 oz bullets for the first few days after surgery. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

    protein shakes

I agree, try the Lactaid milk. I have issues with milk not agreeing with me. I dont think I am lactose intolerant, but I know that it does bother my stomach. So since I started drinking the shakes I have only used Lactaid milk and I have not had any problems at all. And I can not taste any difference, of course it is being mixed as a shake so It might taste different if you just drink a glass of milk, but who know...LOL Give it a try.

    Blurred Vision

I am sure it was transderm scop (scopolamine). It is commonly used in surgery to combat the nausea afterwards. I know my surgeon uses is and I have heard many other people on here mention it was used on them too. You should start to feel just fine. Good Luck.

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Hey contemplating, Yeah I feel ya on the protein shake thing. Luckily I have found one that I absolutely love. And I will say right up from that No I am not a rep for this product..LOL I just really like this shake. It is Nectar brand, flavor chocolate truffel. I blend it with 1 cup of fat free lactaid milk and half a banana. Put a little ice in it and YUM. It tastes just like a milkshake to me. Without the banana it is a little sweet, but doable. I found this because on a post here someone posted a special that Nectar is having where you get either 11 or 12 sample packs each a different flavor for 9.99. Well so far the chocolate truffel is the only one I have liked. I have been trying the others with water (most of them are meant to be with water and be like a fruit juice) and I have not found one that I like yet. I was hoping to find one that I could use for the first week post op where we are supposed to be on clear liquids. I still have a few left that I have not tried and I will post and let you know if I find anymore that are good. But if you want to try the sample pack look for a post entitled Nectar. Good Luck

    Blurred Vision

The patch sounds to me like the most likely culprit. It is known to affect eye sight. I personally use it all the time for travlling and on cruises. But I cut it in half and only wear half at a time because it blurs my vision. So give it a little while and I am sure it will go away since you took it off.

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Hi guys. Can you believe there are only 6 days until we get banded . I am getting so excited. I have been on the pre-op diet since last Thursday. I did have a hard time last weekend. I can blame it kinda on my work schedule though . When I work my part time job on weekends it comepletely changes my eating pattern since the hours are drastically different than those of my regular job. But on Monday I really got back into it and have dropped 5 pounds since then (well on my scale anyway) so I am pretty excited about that. Now I am just hoping I can keep it together for this weekend so I can continue to lose. How is everyone else doing on their pre-op? Well those that have one that is...LOL

    protein shakes

Thanks for the isopure tips. I do have 3 bottles in my refrigerator that I have been saving for the week after surgery. And yes one of them is alpine punch...LOL. But i guess I am lucky that I have found a milk based shake that I love. It is truly no hardship for me to drink my nectar chocolate truffle shake as long as I put a half a banana in it... . But I do have another question. If I want to make all at one time enough shakes for a whole day, will it be ok in the refrigerator or does it get icky if it sits too long? Has anyone tried this?

    protein shakes

I love Nectar's chocolate truffel blended with half a bananna. it is delicious, tastes just like a milkshake to me. I tried 2 other Nectar flavors tonight that you mix with water...YUCK. I am trying to find something I like mixed with water for the first week after surgery. I guess I will try the chocolate one with water to see how it will be. I did buy 2 bullets and 3 isopure drinks for immediately after surgery since I hear I probably wont want to eat much, but I have not idea how they taste yet. If amyone has any ideas for protein mixed with water I would be glad to hear them.

    Being told I"m the smallest!

AMEN...... i agree with you 100 percent. I know I certainly dont want to wait until I get even fatter to get the surgery. I want to nip this in the bud while I am still relatively young and mostly healthy. Luckily I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure..Yet. I have had reflux for years and was diagnosed with sleep apena three years ago..(weird thing is this last sleep study said I did not have it.. go figure). But my mother had high BP, my sister has high BP and my grandmother was diabetic and I think my father is now too. I have been diagnosed with "hypoglycemia" (dont know if I belive that one though) and was told that later in life it usually turns into diabetes. So my thinking is why wait. Yeah my BMI was only about 37 when I started this (LOL yeah I said only, I am still obese) but I certainly do not want it to go any higher. So I will have my surgery April 16th and hopefully never see a weight this high again. :smile2:

Okay Bunnies... who have you told?

Band Groupie, I am in the same boat as you. Many people say that I dont need surgery I am not fat. Even the cardiologist I went to said "do you qualify for this surgery". It is because I too carry my weight in my lower half. I started with my BMI around 37 just like you. I just dont understand why many people dont see me as fat when I am obviously obese. Frustrating isnt it? :smile2:

Anyone else scheduled for April 16th?

Hey Scooby and Rannah. Just checking in for the 16th. I too start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I made a last minute trip to walmart tonight to pick up some lactaid milk, sugarfree popsicles and jello and some green beans... great combination huh? Well good luck to us we are almost there
  17. thats awesome scooby. And here we thought that I was lucking out by not having to do all liquid...LOL. I actually have read on here where some doctors do not require any pre-op diet. I dont know if the "way we carry our body weight" had any thing to do with my pre-op diet or not. I do not carry my weight around my middle, mine is mostly lower body so I am assuming my liver is not that big ??? But I dont really know of course so that is why I must follow my doctors recommendations

    Finally a date!!!!

I still have a few appointment follow ups to finish. April 1st I go back to the cardiologist for the results of my echo. April 6th I go back to the pulmonologist for the results of my sleep study (this is the second one, I had one 3 years ago but he wanted a newer one...I was not happy about that ). And then my final pre-op appointment with the surgeon is April 8th. I also have a hari appointment on april 3rd and my hair stylist has also had lap band sugery a few years ago...LOL. And lastly our monthly support group meeting just happens to fall on April 14th....2 days before surgery :w00t:. but yes we have to keep each other posted.

    Finally a date!!!!

Scooby, wow your time fram is even very similar to mine. I went to my first info meeting in Jan. Had my first appointment with surgeon Feb 18th and found out on March 2nd that I was approved and my surgery date would be April 16th... that is so sooo weird. I too have BCBS and the lap band just started being covered this year. The only reason it is now covered is because ( I work at the hospital) the surgeon went to Human resources people and told them if he was going to perform this surgery at the hospital there was no way they could not allow the employees to get it too. So needless to say I am very grateful to him for that :cursing:
  24. Hey Scooby, I dont start my pre-op till April 2nd. Is your pre-op longer than 14 days? And did you ever get clarification on what your doc wanted for pre-op diet?
