    how often do you...

several times a day. My scale is in the door way to the kitchen. i have to walk past it to get into the kitchen. It works for me. Keeps me honest and reminds me that I really dont need to go to the fridge to see whats in in it cuz i dont need it. works for me. when i stop weighing myself is when i get myself into trouble.

    Regular clothes?

Ive been wearing sweat pants and couldnt wear jeans for about 3 weeks. i think it totally depends on where your cloths sit related to your incision. most of my pain was actually below my incision. Also my port incision and another are located right on the edge of my "muffin top roll" so whenever i sit it rubs on jeans etc. hopefully that will go away soon

    No Support from Husband

My BF wasnt sure about it at first. he was afraid that i was gonna lose weight and then lose him. Maybe this is a concern for him. Maybe just ask him flat out why he has an issue with it.I also discovered that men dont usually like it when you no onger devote your entire life to them. now that you are devoing something to you, it may be an issue for him,

    Less restriction after fill???

No, they hit the port, I watched her put in the saline and then draw it back out. She said they do that to be sure they are in and to reassure pt's. So i know the fill went in. It has been the weirdest thing... I almost regret getting the fill now. hopefully I will feel it later..Does that happen?
  5. I had my first fill yesterday, I was upset that I had only lost 2 lbs since my visit two weeks prior. my doc told me that it was not uncommon to gain during this time. she was very pleased that I had lost some. So dont stress. i know easier said than done lol i just thought if i repeated it to you, i wouldnt either hahah. Worry about getting healthy and recovering right now than loss. Get better, feel better, start moving around more, and you will lose. at least im hoping!
  6. here is a link to a pretty cool website. I use it to keep track of where im at with each stage of my loss. It also shows you your BMR, BASAL Metabolic Rate, the amount of calories you need to just live anything less will result in weight loss. Its great, just wanted to share! Body-Mass Index, Waist-to-Height Ratio and More...

    PB and stress

I havent been banded long, but i noticed the same thing, i asked my doc about it today, she said that was fairly normal because when we are stressed or upset we tend to tighten up our muscles/tension whch makes the band a lil tighter, stress also causes some other physiological responses with hormonses n such that can impact it, i dont pb but i get very nauseated and cant eat, even drinking feels like taking a chance to vomit

    Don't know how to feel.

First of all I wan to say, you must be a pretty amazing guy if you are willing to come on the site to ask for advice. Secondly, if you truely love her, you will suppor her in whatever choice she makes. I agree with the previous poster, who suggesed that you go with her. I also would recomend watching videos on you tube of others who have gone through this journey and the surgery itself. My boyfriend, lives in another stae right now, he doesnt understand exactally how the surgery works and doesnt have access to internet to view or find the information. His support means a lot to me, and honestly he does support me very well, mostly because he doesnt understand how it works. Your girlfriend i am sure will do dilligent research before getting the band. This isnt a magic fix, the weight loss is slow and takes a lot of hard work and dedications. the best thing you can do for her, is makethe healthy lifestyle changes with her, support her when things might be tough, and notice the changes she makes for the better. Go to her appts with her, be a part of the process, etc. thats the best you can do to help her. As far as the negative things you read, any surgery has some bad outcomes, thats part of life and nothing is perfec or works perfect for everyone. But did you notice all of the success stories? and the people who contribute the band to saving their lives? I dont have medical problems yet either (that are contributed to my weight) YET being the key word. Getting the band to prevent these diseases is just as important as getting it to improve health because of disease. ou go to the doc and get a yearly physical right? you wouldnt want her to wait to get her "yearly" until she had cervical cancer right? So why wait to prevent diabetes? Ultimatly this is a choice she has to make for herself. All you can do is support her through whatever choice she makes. Sorry this is so windy but you asked for it :rolleyes2:
  11. So i got my first fill, went great, I do have a lump n my throat since then tho, not like an overeating full feeling but i feel like theres a lump in my throat where my epiglotis is. It is liquids for a few days then back to mushies. I am starving! I have saiety at all, which i did before the fill, they put in 4 cc, how is this even possible? I can drink liquids, did a cheese n broccoli Soup and removed the broccoli from it, now an hour later i am starving again. So i drank a cp of hot tea, now ive also have los of Water and still hungry? wth? is this bandster hell? cuz i was getting pretty good saiety prior to my fill. does it take a while for the fill to take affect?
  12. personally chilli keeps me fuller longer and i cant eat as much of it as i can other things, guess it depends on how thick u make it, soups dont do anything for me except make me want more lol.

    Water deprivation.

I am shocked that you can even drink that much water to begin with! i couldnt drink or eat that much volume prior to the band at one time! i have a hard time drinking water or any fliuds for that matter as much as we are sposed to so it is eye opening that anyone would be worried about drinking that much to begin with. My question for you is..Why are you considering being banded? it is a huge lifestyle change and commitment, and like other posters have mentioned..maybe the benefits dont outweigh the sacrifices for you. Its not for everyone and theres nothing wrong with making different choice. It is supposed to improve our quality of life not make it worse.
  14. No loss. Seriously? I'm not losing anything. I go in two days for my first fill. I dont know what im doing wrong, plus i still feel like total crap. I keep pretending that I feel good and things are great, fake it till you make it right? well I havent made it yet...ugh. And its not great! Help me please!
  15. I am 4 weeks out today, I havent lost anything since the first week. hang in there...I'm trying to! I go for my first fill tom so we'll see how it goes.
  16. I just wanted to update, I quit smoking on august 21st. I am a non smoker. I did slip on saturday and I am glad that i did. I was out with friends and had a few cocktails and wanted to smoke. i had one drag and thought i was going to vomit. I no longer have the "urge" to smoke. i still want to smoke because of the behavior but i dont want a cigarette if that makes any sense. I dream about smoking blah blah blah but i no onger wake and want to smoke, i no longer think about it every minute of every day. I have more trust in myself about the band journey now, cuz if i can quit smoking i can do this! no problem!

    Period after surgery?

I started my period three days before surgery. I still have it. Its fantastic(sarcasm) it goes from being lght to super heavy. Im never sure what its gonna be like from hour to hour. I think it is almost gone and then wooooosh...time to change outfits. it has been really awful actually. I havent had a gyno for a while and am looking for one but it makes me more nervous than the surgery did...you have my sympathy!
  19. Fluffy_Gurl

Fake it till you make it!?!

Im not sure what you mean by crap food. I think the worst thing I have eaten in the last two months was five dorritos. Here is what ive eaten the last two days and it pretty much stays the same and cycles through the week since im still on mushies. Sunday 1 serving No sugar added carnation instant Breakfast with 1 cp nonfat milk and a packet of beneprotien 1 cup of turkey chili made with kidney and pinto Beans and tomatoes and seasoning low sodium 1/2 cup sugar free pudding with one packet of beneprotien 1 oz sharp cheddar cheese 1/4 cup green beans 4 oz turkey cutlet with nonfat gravy(3 tbls) Monday 1 serving No sugar added carnation instant breakfast with 1 cp nonfat milk and a packet of beneprotien 1/2 cup pears no sugar 1/2 cup cottage cheese ...thats it so far Im not getting all my Water in but pretty close. I dont drink anything else except one day i did have a coffee but no sugar or cream I dont think im eating badly I walk four days a week and do my eliptical machine 3 days a week thats about it.

    Gas pain this sucks

I think i was to 8 days out for the gas to have completely gone away. Try drinking warm liquids and some gas x or phazyme. If you can belch do but dont force it. What are you eating/drinking right now? sometimes the sf stuff causes excess gas as well a dairy ...i dunno but maybe that would help to limit those things. The first few times i ate beans i thought i was gonna die! keep walking even if it bothers you!
  21. Fluffy_Gurl

    Sorry TMI...

eat some beans (if you can, i eat mushy black beans with some water added to make them a lil runny and a lil bit of cheese, puree if your on full liquid wth a lil chicken broth) and drink lots of water!
  22. So i have been craving doritos for several weeks. I have been killing myself to follow this new eating plan especially after surgery and the post op diet. I had to have someting crunchy before i went crazy. And yes im still on mushies, i have been exercising, drinking my water, eating my protien, blah blah blah. So today i put five doritos in a bowl and very slowly ate them! It took me an hour but i totally enjoyed it! no regrets and i dont consider it a slip. So i ate the doritos. yup. i also threw the rest of the bag away in the large can in the garage so i wouldnt do it again but i have to say those were the best doritos ive ever eaten.
  23. Definatly consult your doc. we all have different recomendations on what were sposed to eat n drnk etc. but you should definatly be getting some protien in! I use no sugar added carnation instant breakfast with beneprotien added to it. im still in mushies stage but am doing both full liquid and mushies just because i wanted to be careful. so i drink up in the am as i am not really able to eat a whole lot in the am. and do mushies for meals mostly meats, and then i do cream of wheat with beneprotien at night. so we all have what works for us. i was really concerned about how slowly i was losing and was really restricting calories, i was also very depressed, wear, and had no energy. so instead of counting i am watching what im eating and trying not to eat high calorie food, measure my portions and count my protien. since i have been doing that i feel so much better!

    24 hours out of surgery

HEATING PAD! thats what helped me the most after surgery with the gas pain. also propping up with pillows, I even folded up an old comforter and put it behind and underneath all my pillows to help. One trick i learned was that once I was a little less sore and was somewhat able to get out of bed, I would bend my knee up towards my stomach and hold on to my leg to pull myself up, i know it sounds weird but it worked really well. i know it feels like it will be forever before you can rest well but it will only be a little while. So dope yourself up well and rest as much as you can. Try to walk as much as you can as often as you can. and drink away!
  25. Fluffy_Gurl

    just starting my new life

you may want to call your doc and see if you can add some fuller liquid to your diet. It does get better. I was very emotional and down during the first couple of weeks but i do feel better now. Once you are able to eat mushies you will start to feel better too! Just remember that this is a new begining for you! which means new habits too!
