    Banded 2 days ago

Jabba, I'm right there with ya' I was done on the 18th. While it hasnt been a walk in the park I would have tgo say that it has gone pretty smooth for me. I think the shoulder pain was the worst, but even that got better by day 2. My girlfriend makes fun of me because I never really understood what bloating was. I used to tease her about it during her TOM, now I know bloatging and I dont like it all. Sorry ladies, i will never make fun again.

    Sushi?

Too early for me to know yet, but I certainly hope so. It is one of my favorite foods and it is pretty healthy for that matter. I have weird kids, they love sushi too and it would be said if we couldn’t still enjoy it as a family.
  4. I was banded 2 days ago on the 18th and am feeling pretty good. The surgery was a breeze. One minute I was looking up at the light in the OR next thing I know I was waking up in recovery. I didn’t feel the onset of the drugs or anything else, for me it was a blink of an eye. The first day home the left shoulder pain was pretty bad but it is almost gone today. The cuts sting a little but the pain is very manageable. I'm not really hungry, but am constantly drinking broth, juice, Jell-O and fat free milk to get some calories in. Don’t dwell on what "might" go wrong, there are tons of people on here that made it thru surgery with little or no problems, I count myself as one.:tt2:
  5. I was done on the 18th and was mostly out of it that day and yesterday. The cuts weren’t too bad, but the shoulder pain was a little intense. Today (day 3) feeling pretty good. Shoulder pain is mostly gone and the cuts just sting a bit, but very tolerable. There is occasional tightness in my chest, but I think that may be from drinking too fast. I dove a lot today with no problems.

Well your body has been thru a lot and needs time to recover. Hopefully life won't get too much in the way and you can sleep, probably the best healing for you right now anyway. Try to get some protien in, that should help with energy. I'm doing pretty well today. Pain in the shoulder is mostly gone. The cuts are a bit tender but not too bad. I just noticed they shaved my belly (TMI) and it's starting to itch a bit which is annoying.

3 days out and still in PAIN

The staff wasn’t real specific on what I could eat. They just said clear liquids the first few days then go on to protein drinks. It seems most people on here are on clear liquids a little longer so I think I will do that at least until my one week follow-up on next Wednesday.
  9. Me too on the 18th. I am feeling a little rumbling in the tummy, but not really hungry. I feel as though I should be hungry though as I am not getting many calories in. I just keep sipping broth, juice, and eating jello. I'd be surprised though if I am eating 500-700 cal/day. Anybody feeling a double rumble? It seems like I feel a deep rumble in my big old stomach and a little higher pitch rumble in my new stomach. Am I just imagining that?

3 days out and still in PAIN

I am feeling a "twisting" in my chest every so often. I described it to my sister as heartburn without the burn. Another way to describe it is it seems like my esophagus is being wrung out like a towel, but it doesn’t last too long. I would stay away from aleve, it is an nsaid and may irritate your stomach. Stick with Tylenol which has acetaminophen instead. What are you guys eating? I am having low sodium chicken broth, sugar free jello, apple juice, cranberry juice and fat free milk. I don’t think I am getting many calories in right now, don’t know if that is a problem for healing.

3 days out and still in PAIN

I was done on the 18th, so this is day 2 for me. For me the worst pain is in the shoulder, but it has been bearable. I do have some tenderness around the cuts on my tummy but keeping ice on it seems to help. I feel a bit sore when I get up or down but nothing too bad. They gave me a prescription for liquid vicodin which I take every for hours. Pain should be manageable, there are tons of things they give you for pain and you shouldn’t have to suffer. Get on the phone and tell them to give you something, preferably before the weekend. Hope you feel better

I'm home too. No wieght gain from the IV for me. The surgery was a breeze. I remember laying down an the table, next thing i knew i was in the recovery room. I have a lot of pain on the back side of my left shoulder and some soreness in the stomach. they gave me an RX for liquid vicoden which seems to help with the pain. Ice packs on the stiches seems to help. All and all it is not so bad.
  13. K-Jan, I too am going in on the 18th, can't wait to get it over with. I have been on liquid the last 3-4 days. The doc wasn't pushy about it, but I thoiught it might be good to get used to it while I know my body, might make it easier after the band goes in. I have been drinking the large EAS Myoplex shakes, they are 300 cals each and taste fine to me. I like them cuze they have a twist off plastic top that can be put back on.
  14. Melissa Anne, I too am going in on 2/18 9AM PST. Lets do this together, we will be fine. Just think of all the risks we are putting ourselves thru right now with this extra weight. In a month or so we will be past the fear, past the post-op pain and on our way to our new life at a healthy weight. Hang in there, do this for you.
  15. I was just wondering... After I get this thing implanted and I have some success how will strangers describe me? Now they probably say early to mid forties, tall, white and heavyset (if they are nice, other adjectives might be chubby, fat, huge, etc.). I think I will be happy with tall, early forties (fat makes me look mid to late forties now) average  build. How about you?
  16. I am getting banded on the 18th as well. Good luck to us both:thumbup:

I'll be joining you on the 18th. Lets wish us both the best of luck:thumbup:
  18. So my date is set for 2/18/09 and I just started to get worried. I'm not worried about pain or the operation itself - I feel pretty good about that. I'm worried about what makes me obese and will the band really help me. I can pinpoint my problem directly at food volume. I don't really snack and I'm not over the top with sweets. My demon is that when I eat, I EAT. I look at my portions in relation to other people and know that that is why I am fat. The problem is I don't seem to have that little sensor in my body that says “Stop eating, you are full”. I will sometimes feel the sensation of satiety well after eating but rarely while eating. I am hoping the band will help me with this, what do you think?
