    Pre-op Cheating help!!!!

I was scared of this too. I had a 2 week pre op liquid. Christmas was in this 2 weeks. The Dr did let me "cheat" anjd eat a traditional Christmas dinner, minus the deserts. All was fine. I am guessing a little "cheating" is prolyok, but I would talk to your Dr just to makee sure.

I completely understand where you are comming from. I felt the same way the day before mine. Try not to worry to much and spend some quality time with your family. Good luck!!

    Hospital

I had my suregery on a Monday afternoon, started getting sips of water in the recovery room, stayed that night, had the barium swallow thing the next day and home around dinner time. I could have gone home earlier in the day, but I vomited the lortab they gave me for pain. They then gave me a darvocet, and that sat well so I was sent home. They were talking about keeping me a second night if i couldn't keep the darvocet down. I just wanted out of there. I to had lots of gas pressure and stuff that first night along with some swelling. I would not have wanted to/been able to go home the same day.

    Have you noticed?

I don't know.. would I be a fast bander or a slow band? I decided to do this in 4/06, found out I was pregnant in 5/06. Called and talked to the surgeon who said they would like me to wait until the baby was 2 before i did the surgery. I was banded on 12/29/08, a ljust over a month before the baby turns 2. I do think education has alot to do with it. I took the classes the dr office offered. But I still had questions. Some I got answered here online, others I got answered other places online. I thought I knew what I needed to know, but I don't think one knows all the questions to ask before. Could I have been better informed.. prolly. I think support after plays a big role in ones success as well.
  5. My situation is a little different. My dh was not supportive at first. He was not opposed to WLS, he was opposed to the band. He had done gastric bypass a little over a year ago and he was sure I would be making a mistake by choosing the band over bypass. I just couldn't bring myself to go the bypass route, The thought of re doing my insides scared the crap out of me. I took him to my appointments and he was able to ask the dr questions. I was constantly giving him literature on the band to read. He came around and did support my decision in the end, even though I am not 100% certian he agreed. That was all I could have asked for. I hope your DH comes around and sees the benefits of WLS, and supports your decision.

    port pain

I haven't been filled yet, but have pressure on my port when bending over (putting on shoes, picking up kids toys, etc). I wonder if we are experiencing a similar sensation?

    Newly Banded

I sooo know what you mean about eating to fast. It was almost scary when it happened, (got stuck). I had never considered myself a fast eater before, but now I guess I am/was. I am working very hard at slowing down. Its worse when I am really hiungry. Then I take a huge bite and don't chew well...then it gets stuck. How have you been doing? How did your meeting with the nutritionist go? I have not had one of thoes but I am thinking about making one, to learn more about what I should and shouldnt be eating and stuff. I see Dr J. Viglianco at Synergy Bariactrics in Buffalo. I am both alittle excited and nervous about the upcomming fill... Hope you are doing well.

    I need Coffee!!

I was told coffee and tea are fine (but to choose decaf over caffinated) and fat free, sugar free creamers. Don't count them as your water, and moderation is the key.

    A Hiccup question

I am 4 weeks post surgery on Monday, and I still get hiccups frequently, and they hurt. The Dr. said as time goes by the frequency of the hiccups will decrease. Dose any one have any experience with this? Will Hiccups always hurt?
  10. I was banded 12/29. I had the same experience while on the clear liquids. It got better when I moved to full liquids, and then pretty much went away when I started the puree/mushy foods. I am now on reg foods, and have not had a colon issue since, and the rumbeling and gurgeling is gone too. HTH

    How often do you weigh?

Right now I have been weighing myself once a day, naked, right before I get in the shower. I know they say once a week is more accurate, but I just can't believe how much its moved already.

    Surgical Steri Strips

I was told to leave them alone. they would fall off on their own. The Dr would take the rest off at my 1 week post-op visit. I did take off 2 of them that we hanging on by like a little corner (not stuck to the incisions at all).

  14. I went through Synergy Bariatrics, and Sisters Hospital. I had applied through the program at BGH first, but they told me I didn't qualify. I am 34, married and have 3 small kids (2 sons and a daughter). I live in Angola. I know this didnt really answer your question, I was just excited to learn of someone local who has been banded as well.

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

I noticed today that I have cheekbones. Not just pudgy cheeks that some old relative would want to pinch, but honest to goodness cheekbones again. I have also dropped a pants size. I am still wearing my "big" pants, but today I was able to comfortable wear a pair of jeans that are 1 size smaller. I know I have a long way to go, but... Thanks everyone for sharing your NSV!! How very exciting! Congrats to all of you!!

    Newly Banded

I am starving most of the time, however when I do eat, I am not eating much. I do not have a date for my first fill yet, but they said it would be 6 weeks after the surgery so I am guessing around the 10th of Feb. Overall I am feeling well, anxiou to be cleared so I can start exercising. I am really excited though, cause today I tried on a pair of jeans that were 1 size smaller, and they fit!!!! WOO-HOO I was sooo excited. I look forward to talking with you more. Its nice to talk to someone who is in the same stage as I am.

Wow, Thanks everyone!! I had no idea that this period was called bandster hell. I was telling my husband last the other night that I am starving all the time, and its making me crazy. I had no idea that this was a common phase. I feel much better now.
