  1. Congrats on having surgery and keep on with the great recovery! I can only hope that I will lose the desire to eat, because I'll eat even when I'm NOT hungry!

It will help by the fact that it stops you from being hungry. However if you are a habit eater or an emotional eater you will STILL EAT! So you need to find a way to process the emotions that make you want to eat and find something to occupy your time instead of eating. There must be suggestions on here for that sort of thing - I will have a nosey.

I have actually gained a pound but I think it's just Water?

The Doc said to me there is a lot of Fluid and stuff in there from the operation.

My belly looks like a warner borthers cartoon I have bandaids every where 9 incisions I recouted after my first post. .

    Jaytee, why NINE? :cool2:

  2. For sure Wanna B

Band Groupie, Hannah and Sexylips need your pre-preopdiet weight

Celtic need your current and your pre-preopdiet. You may want to miss this week as you have just been banded? So maybe you dunno what you weigh.

So far on this journey, the 10 of us have lost a total of 161lb!!!

  3. I totally know what you guys mean, i was a MESS!!! All I can say is that you will be fine and come out the otherside wondering what all the fuss was about!

I kept motivated and excited by looking at all the success stories on the site and all the photos under the photo tab - just reinforcing that it's worth the hard work of the pre-op diet and the jitters and that a wonderful life lies ahead!! xx

  4. Hi Guys,

Is it okay if I join the Friday weigh-ins? Even though I'm no longer an April Hopeful? If so, here are my stats:

    Highest (2/12/09) - 266

    Surg Consult (4/6/09) - 260

Thanks for doing this, Lingling! Everyone have a great Easter weekend!

    Of course you can join!!

Whats your 10th of April weight though!! x

    Sexylips, what's your pre-op weight/highest weight?

  5. Initial consult - 273

    Today I weighed 259.5

I havent done too well weight wise the past 2 weeks because my father passed and I wasnt sure if I would still get banded. But I am now back on the band wagon and looking forward to this journey again!

Oh darling, that's awful. You have done so well weight wise considering you haven't been banded yet!!!!!

    Take care xx

What liquids are safe.i tried some V8 Splash but vomited it back up.Would broth be okay?

I was home today by 2:30.The only sorenesS have is right where the incisions are.

Thanks in advance for your responses. Murphy

Murphy - how much V8 did you take in one mouthful?

Remember that even though you have no restriction at the moment and liquid will go through easily that if you have a big chug on it then its like turning a tap on too fast for a sink and the sink will overflow. You should be aiming to sip 1 cup of liquid over 10-20 minutes nice and slow. I wouldn't have any issues with the consistency of V8 juice though - anything that will go up a straw is fine!

  7. I am 2 weeks liquid (anything that will go up straw)

    then 1 week very mushy

    then 1 week chunky mushy

    then solids.

Its to stop the pouch getting over filled and pulling on the stiches that are holding your band in place. To be fair though, I am 8 days post op and I have been eating food that wouldn't quite fit up a straw, you just have to be VERY careful with portion sizes so that it doesn't stretch on the stitches.

Have a chat with Surgeon anyway if you are worried. xx

  8. Yay!!

    Everyone is doing so awesomely!!

The following people please tell me their "pre-preopdiet" weight/highest (so long as highest wasn't a year ago or anything! since we're documenting this part of the weight loss journey!)

    - BandGroupie

    - Sissy

    - Celtic Angel

    - Mrs Mitch

    - Thinwithin

    - Hannah

That way I can calculate how much we have all lost so far as a group!!!!

Sissy, Celtic and Mrs Mitch we are still waiting on this friday's weight too!!!!!:)

  9. Nerves are normal, but I found them to be completely unnecessary! The operation and recovery were a breeze, and afterwards you really aren't hungry. Although, today I have had 1 cup orange juice and 1/2 cup of vege Soup and it is now 6.30pm I am feeling hunger pains in my stomach for a bit of food - probably cannot ask for everything!! :)

The pre-op diet, its the doc's choice and designed to shrink the liver to reduce operation risk - sometimes if it is longer than 2 weeks it is an insurance requirement to "prove" that you want it badly enough.

food - you will be able to eat again! Don't stress too much! Personally, if I could pick my perfect last meal it would be sweet and sour pork chinese!!! YUM!!

  10. I can't believe it's nearly hear tomorrow morning have to be at the hospital at 5:30am ofr 7:30 surgery. I'm not so much scared of the surgery as I am the rest of my life with the band. I didn't get to have a last waffle at Waffle House, didn't get fairwell sushi...so much I have left to do..... oh well my other half is so supportive well going to bed catchup with everyone in a couple days. Good Luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow with me and for the next couple days.

JayTee, I felt the same - I need my farewell burger, steak, massive loaf of bread... but I can honestly tell you, I couldnt care less now about those things. If I never ate sushi again (which was my absolute favourite) then there would be a bit of grief, but no where near as much as there would have been before. The band makes you permanently not hungry, you don't care. Besides, I am sure you will be able to eat sushi again and waffle... just CHEW CHEW CHEW!!!!

Good luck to everyone being banded on Friday the 10th! I will be thinking of you xxx:lol:

  11. Hey guys

Well it's friday here in little old NZ, and weighing in today at 128.7kg or 283lb is Lingling. That's total loss of 8.7kg or 19lb.

I thought it would be cool to work out how much weight we have lost as a group and cheer each other on - so have made a little spreadsheet, anyone can join - this is just the people who have contributed so far, and I will do a new one after everyone has posted each week. You just have to all tell me your pre-pre-op diet weight and of course this weeks weight so that we can work out total weight lost!! yayay!!xx

  12. Well, I got great news today....and I got not so great news today.

The bad news is that I won't be banded in April.... Chances are very good that I'll get scheduled for the first week of May, but this means that I'm not a Bunny Bandster...:tt2: So, I hope you all don't mind if I continue to hang with you anyway... and I'll change my Bunny Banner.

PharmaGirl, can you remove me from the "April Hopeful" list? Thanks.

You can be an honorary Bunny Bandster!!! We should make a special section Pharmagirl!!

Scoob - Feels just like eating normally as I have no restriction and am only on liquid. However I have been having some mashies so I have got full a couple of times which just feels like normal getting full. If you drink too fast though I am sure that I feel it come up my oesophagus as its like a sink and it will drain but if you fill up too quick will overflow!! ha ha.

Pub Quiz is an english thing I think? Groups of 5-10 people sit in a pub drinking beer and wine (especially in winter by a big fire) and answer rounds of general knowledge questions in the goal of getting a bar tab! A pub is a bar (incase you guys don't have those!!)

  13. More than likely not. The surgery lasts 3 hr, my preinstructions says that a catheter will be inserted during surgery to empty the bladder. Sa n panties til after you wake up from surgery. Mimi teapot

Mimi! Why so long? are you having other operations done too?

I plan to shove it off my face so I can sleep better.

I hope the nurses don't wake me up to put the thing back on so I can "sleep better."

    Seems pointless to me.

You guys with Sleep Apnoea shouldn't take it so lightly! I work for a life insurance company, and sleep apnoea without a CPAP is DECLINE! (yes your chance of death without the mask is too high to quantify!)

The reason it causes death is that it alters the chemicals in your blood provided to you by oxygen and therefore increases the risk of normal heart attack see here: http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-apnea/news/20050323/sleep-apnea-makes-wee-hours-sudden-death-time

But also when the oxygen levels get so low (less than 80%) the right ventricle in the heart cannot pump in normal rhythm and goes into Ventricular Tachycardia with no warning and you are just dead.

    Annoying but lifesaving!

  14. Thanks Lingling. I had a feeling it would be way too soon. How is the weather down there?

Weather is grotty! Raining today and getting into winter. Off to a pub quiz tonight so will have my first glass of white wine! apparently I will be pissed!! hahha let's see.

Had my post op visit today, he said "A1Pass!" and come back in a month. He was happy and showed me photos he'd taken inside my tummy when he was in there. I will try and scan them and get them on here somehow.

I'm gonna start a MASTER THREAD #2 as this one is taking forever to load!! xx

  15. Today is the end of my liquid diet... lost 23 pds in 15 days. Tomorrow is my surgery day!!!! I'm so excited! Maybe a bit nervous but not too bad so far! Gotta be at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning and surgery scheduled for 7:30! I'll be the first of the day! Gotta stay overnight so will be released some time on Thursday. I'll postop post asap! Please keep me in your prayers!!!

YAY LDEERE!!! You did it!! One more step in the process and you're out the other side! The operation is a breeze, you will be so happy when you wake up!!! Let us know how it goes!! Thinking of you!xx

    - Re: Preop diets. Many overweight people have large fatty livers. When they do the operation they have to lift the liver out of the way and there is a risk with the more they have to bend and lift the liver to get to the stomach - the higher chance of the liver rupturing and bleeding which is a pain for the surgeon, takes longer to fix etc and can be dangerous. Obviously bigger livers have to be lifted more than smaller ones, and therefore the risk is higher of rupture etc. The other thing is that the more fat on the liver the more dripping of fat (yes, actually dripping ) onto the camera probe which is a pain - Hence the pre-op diet. I would imagine however, that people with lower BMI's (in the 30s) they may not bother as their liver would probably not be as big as us 40s+ girls and guys! - and at the end of the day if they get in there and see that the liver is massive and fatty, they just won't proceed with the operation.

Have you guys checked out the operation on Youtube?

    the beginning of this one:

gives the best picture of how tricky it can be to lift a massive liver (although this liver looks weird as it is practically dead!)
