    Friday Weigh Ins

Hey guys Well it's friday here in little old NZ, and weighing in today at 128.7kg or 283lb is Lingling. That's total loss of 8.7kg or 19lb. I thought it would be cool to work out how much weight we have lost as a group and cheer each other on - so have made a little spreadsheet, anyone can join - this is just the people who have contributed so far, and I will do a new one after everyone has posted each week. You just have to all tell me your pre-pre-op diet weight and of course this weeks weight so that we can work out total weight lost!! yayay!!xx
  2. You can be an honorary Bunny Bandster!!! We should make a special section Pharmagirl!! Scoob - Feels just like eating normally as I have no restriction and am only on liquid. However I have been having some mashies so I have got full a couple of times which just feels like normal getting full. If you drink too fast though I am sure that I feel it come up my oesophagus as its like a sink and it will drain but if you fill up too quick will overflow!! ha ha. Pub Quiz is an english thing I think? Groups of 5-10 people sit in a pub drinking beer and wine (especially in winter by a big fire) and answer rounds of general knowledge questions in the goal of getting a bar tab! A pub is a bar (incase you guys don't have those!!)

Mimi! Why so long? are you having other operations done too? You guys with Sleep Apnoea shouldn't take it so lightly! I work for a life insurance company, and sleep apnoea without a CPAP is DECLINE! (yes your chance of death without the mask is too high to quantify!) The reason it causes death is that it alters the chemicals in your blood provided to you by oxygen and therefore increases the risk of normal heart attack see here: http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-apnea/news/20050323/sleep-apnea-makes-wee-hours-sudden-death-time But also when the oxygen levels get so low (less than 80%) the right ventricle in the heart cannot pump in normal rhythm and goes into Ventricular Tachycardia with no warning and you are just dead. Annoying but lifesaving!
  4. Well I had my first glass of wine! Great!!!! Didnt get as tipsy as I thought! Just been to a pub quiz and sat around people having steaks, burgers, wontons etc - so jealous - but ordered a plate of pumpkin mash with gravy - filled the hole!!! How's everyone else doing?

Weather is grotty! Raining today and getting into winter. Off to a pub quiz tonight so will have my first glass of white wine! apparently I will be pissed!! hahha let's see. Had my post op visit today, he said "A1Pass!" and come back in a month. He was happy and showed me photos he'd taken inside my tummy when he was in there. I will try and scan them and get them on here somehow. I'm gonna start a MASTER THREAD #2 as this one is taking forever to load!! xx

YAY LDEERE!!! You did it!! One more step in the process and you're out the other side! The operation is a breeze, you will be so happy when you wake up!!! Let us know how it goes!! Thinking of you!xx - Re: Preop diets. Many overweight people have large fatty livers. When they do the operation they have to lift the liver out of the way and there is a risk with the more they have to bend and lift the liver to get to the stomach - the higher chance of the liver rupturing and bleeding which is a pain for the surgeon, takes longer to fix etc and can be dangerous. Obviously bigger livers have to be lifted more than smaller ones, and therefore the risk is higher of rupture etc. The other thing is that the more fat on the liver the more dripping of fat (yes, actually dripping ) onto the camera probe which is a pain - Hence the pre-op diet. I would imagine however, that people with lower BMI's (in the 30s) they may not bother as their liver would probably not be as big as us 40s+ girls and guys! - and at the end of the day if they get in there and see that the liver is massive and fatty, they just won't proceed with the operation. Have you guys checked out the operation on Youtube? the beginning of this one: gives the best picture of how tricky it can be to lift a massive liver (although this liver looks weird as it is practically dead!)
  7. Great work Knewme, I was banded on the 2nd April and I get what you mean - visualising the little pouch etc. I have not been hungry either except a little yesterday. Although I have had icecream which I never have and it was sooooooo good that i had to have another bowl. Hard that you don't get the FULL feeling on liquids - just the constant "im not very hungry" feeling. Can't wait to have both!!! Icecream going down the drain as cannot have that temptation! I tried to eat the tiniest bit of cake (like as long as your thumb) and chewed bites off it as big as little fingernail, and thought i'd be sweet but BOY will I not cheat again! bloated indigestion freakout central!!! I was all concerned I'd buggered it up well and truly! liquid liquid liquid for me until they say so! Have my first post op appt this afternoon at 4.30, so will see how well I have done. I think I will only be down about 1-2kilos (2-5lb) as I have weighed on my scales. A little disappointed but HELLO!!! ITS ONLY BEEN A WEEK!!! Will let ya'll know how I get on. Off shopping this afternoon... fun times!! Knewme - how on EARTH are you walking 3miles - I am so exhausted after DRIVING 3miles!!

What do hope for in life banned?

I hope for: - A hot husband! - The ability to get pregnant - so long Polycystic Ovaries! - Not to die of a heart attack at 40 like both my parents! - To feel sexy and confident and for my weight not to be the BIGGEST thing about me, the preceeds all other things and defines me to everyone (including myself). I want to be the "pretty loud girl" rather than the "fat loud girl" or even just the "loud girl" would do me fine! - I want to RUN!!!!!!!
  10. Oh goodness, I keep forgettting to take my multivites! I have never needed them (the perks of eating EVERYTHING in sight i guess ha ha) but must remember to take them. I bought them pre-op and really gotta get into the habit!! Band_Groupie - mine are just normal women's Multivitamins, let me know if you want specifics! Thanks for the reminder.

    Post Op Chat

Well I am on day three of post op and I am struggling a bit psychologically - Today I have eaten (well drank) 1 cup miso Soup, 1 scoop icecream, 300ml of Vitamin Water. I am excited that I couldn't care less about food and I am not hungry at all, but I must say I do feel a little sad at the thought of not being able to sit down to a feast again. I know this is something I had thought through before hand and I know that I'd rather be skinny than have a feast but its a strange feeling to work out in my brain. The gas pains have gone but I am a burping machine! Still in a bit of pain as was stupid and went to the supermarket (grocery shop) today, which exhausted me and hurt my abs!! How's everyone else doing?

    Going Mental!

Here is a perfect explaination of Ketosis: Lowcarbezine!: What the heck is ketosis? And how important is it to my low carb diet? The Atkins diet is all about it, but that part is irrelevant - the reason they want us to do low carb/low cal pre-op diet is to use all the liver fat up to make surgery safer. So if you gotta cheat, cheat with veges because they don't have any carbs or calories! They laughed at me at the doc office when I said I am sorry I cheated, I had more than a cup of veges at night. They cracked up!
  15. Hey guys well with much trepidation i checked in at 7am this morning and i have got a band now. So exhausted have slept all day.
  16. If only I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have been nervous at all!!!! It was a walk in the park!!! You will be fine for the surgery, and fine after the surgery and then you get to be healthy FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had done this when i was 20!! woe woe woe is me!

Congrats on your band date! I would consider VERY slow walking after a week, and maybe cardio after two weeks, I would definitely NOT jump around four days post op! You will be very sore!!!!

I could be back at work now I'd say but I have 2 weeks off. I had my op on thursday morning, friday off, sat and sunday off, could have gone back monday with a bit of pain but emotionally I would have struggled I think to get my head around the food adjustment. Better to have more time off I think.

    Bunnie Recipes

Well I am not a chef by any means! But I will share anyway! I roasted two free-range chickens Boiled up sweet potato, pumpkin, spinach and carrots. Made a very very watery gravy Blended it all up together and frozen in little 300ml containers. Tastes like I am having a roast meal! YUMMM

Um!! Don't know!!! I am seeing my Doc tomorrow afternoon so I will ask him what I am supposed to be eating. I am kind of enjoying the fact that I don't have to eat. ahha. probably a bad approach!! but every pound down helps! ha ha.

    Post Op Chat

Well how interesting this band is... I am just not hungry at all. Thought I *might* have been today, but it was actually just empty pains. What I have realised though is that I can eat whatever I want so long as it's liquid and I won't get BLOATED and full, it will just go through and I am left with the same "not hungry" feeling. So I have to be a little cautious to stick to only healthy liquids as every day since my op I have had a small bowl of Movenpick icecream and I am feeling guilty!!! Today I ate: - Up and Go (1 cup of Protein shake type thing) - 1 cup of chocolate low fat milk - 1 cup orange juice - 2/3 cup of pureed veges and chicken - 1 cup icecream I am having a lot of trouble keeping my Water intake up... boooo... only cos I am lazy What are you guys eating day four post op? :smile2:
  25. Chest, tummy and chin - definitely! YAY YOU!!!
