  1. Was it exacerbated by exertion and less on rest? Have you had this before? Did it radiate anywhere - down arms or anything? Its probably a band issue - so see your LB doc, and sorry I don't know your age or anything but any chest pain should be investigated fully - incase it is cardiac. If your LB doc cannot work out what it is and it happens again, then see your GP .

    Ephedrine Anyone?

Ephedrine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Ephedrine = bad news. You had lap band surgery which will sort your metabolism issue out. I cannot imagine any of us fatties have a "normal" metabolism after years of chowing down, dieting, chowing down, dieting, dieting dieting. I have never heard of this test and sorry to sound like a nay sayer but sounds like a load of tripe. Get a SECOND opinon!!!!
  3. I have only been banded for just under 2 weeks also, and I am not hungry at all. My doc did put some saline in though on the table so that hunger was not an issue for me post-op. Sounds like there are one or two issues for you - and only you will know which - and only if you're being honest with yourself as well. 1) Normal hunger because your band is empty so it is not re-setting your hunger sensors. In which case, hang in there and make sure what you eat is low cal. 2) Head hunger. Us fatties like to eat and its not because we're actually hungry most of the time. If you are "hungry" try to re-evaluate and see if you are actually "pain in my stomach" hungry or if you could go another hour. Also, we get actual hunger triggers if we are dehydrated. If it is number 1) then it will go after a fill, however nothing but fixing your behaviour patterns and emotions will sort out 2)... Hope that helps x

    Pureed foods...Pass them up?

I guess I've not really been that good at sticking with liquid foods and I may pay for it later. I swore that I would adhere to everything he said strictly but then I had a few things and I was okay. I have not had ANY real food, but have had mushies that would not go up a straw. Bad of me and I am starting to worry now. Am on day 12 of post-op anyway so probably not too much point in worrying, can just make sure I stay on mushies for the full four weeks and be a good girl!!
  5. There is one in the main Post Op section of the main forum http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/surgery-day-stories-64287/

It will help by the fact that it stops you from being hungry. However if you are a habit eater or an emotional eater you will STILL EAT! So you need to find a way to process the emotions that make you want to eat and find something to occupy your time instead of eating. There must be suggestions on here for that sort of thing - I will have a nosey. The Doc said to me there is a lot of fluid and stuff in there from the operation. Jaytee, why NINE? :cool2:

Thanks in advance for your responses. Murphy Murphy - how much V8 did you take in one mouthful? Remember that even though you have no restriction at the moment and liquid will go through easily that if you have a big chug on it then its like turning a tap on too fast for a sink and the sink will overflow. You should be aiming to sip 1 cup of liquid over 10-20 minutes nice and slow. I wouldn't have any issues with the consistency of V8 juice though - anything that will go up a straw is fine!

    straight to pureed foods?

I am 2 weeks liquid (anything that will go up straw) then 1 week very mushy then 1 week chunky mushy then solids. Its to stop the pouch getting over filled and pulling on the stiches that are holding your band in place. To be fair though, I am 8 days post op and I have been eating food that wouldn't quite fit up a straw, you just have to be VERY careful with portion sizes so that it doesn't stretch on the stitches. Have a chat with Surgeon anyway if you are worried. xx
  20. I feel like I am doing better with my eating today, had 1/2 cup of soup, a protein shake and 300ml of pureed veges & chicken. This lard has got to be coming off me!!!

Surgery on the 14th and getting scared

Nerves are normal, but I found them to be completely unnecessary! The operation and recovery were a breeze, and afterwards you really aren't hungry. Although, today I have had 1 cup orange juice and 1/2 cup of vege Soup and it is now 6.30pm I am feeling hunger pains in my stomach for a bit of food - probably cannot ask for everything!! The pre-op diet, its the doc's choice and designed to shrink the liver to reduce operation risk - sometimes if it is longer than 2 weeks it is an insurance requirement to "prove" that you want it badly enough. Food - you will be able to eat again! Don't stress too much! Personally, if I could pick my perfect last meal it would be sweet and sour pork chinese!!! YUM!!
  24. JayTee, I felt the same - I need my farewell burger, steak, massive loaf of bread... but I can honestly tell you, I couldnt care less now about those things. If I never ate sushi again (which was my absolute favourite) then there would be a bit of grief, but no where near as much as there would have been before. The band makes you permanently not hungry, you don't care. Besides, I am sure you will be able to eat sushi again and waffle... just CHEW CHEW CHEW!!!! Good luck to everyone being banded on Friday the 10th! I will be thinking of you xxx:lol:
