  1. good morning. okay, so i'm flipping myself out about getting sick. last night it was cold at my house...i turned on the heat. the dryness in the air made my sinuses feel weird so I had a fitful night thinking "OMG...i can't get sick, etc." so stupid. it's just that i've come so far...it's taken 9 months. I don't want anything to stand in the way of it....so i'm freaking myself out. so dumb. I get mad at myself. and then it's compounded by the fact that we can't take any vitamins...no air born, not immune system boosters. whatever. Starting clear liquids at noon today. I'm armed with broth and jello. : ? and my crystal light. I think maybe the fact that we haven't eaten properly in the last two weeks also contributes to feeling a little worn down, don't you think? Hopefully, it'll be over soon. Sweet potato soup sounds yummy.

  2. Hey Gina, what about the Trader Joe's soups? Also, I found some soups at Albertson's that are in these little cartons with a screw off top...organic. creamy tomato, tomato/red pepper, potato leek. not too bad. but I'm like you...we're losing weight so it's worth it. I've lost 9 pounds. : )

  3. Hi Tina, Sure, I'll share. Basically, two weeks prior to surgery, they have us start on this "liquid diet". It's not terrible, just boring: You have to keep your calories to under 1,000 a day, and consume 70 grams of protein. So you can have Protein Shake (two a day @ 30 grms each/160 cal) pureed, low fat Soup, 1 c fatfree yogurt...a brand called light and fit (which has 80 calories) clear fruit juices (no pulp) V-8 (tomato/vegetable juice) sugar free popsicles (ice pops), pudding and Jello So my day is like this: 7:30: yogurt 10:00 a.m. protein 12:00 soup 2:00 p.m. sf pudding or jello 4:00 p.m. protein shake dinner: soup snack: popsicle Then, 2 days prior to surgery, they want us to do clear liquids. so: broth, clear juice, sugar free popsicles/jello, diet ginger ale or 7 up. Lots of Water for both diets. Hope that helps. I think it's been good because it kind of gets you disciplined for what's to come. does that make sense? Good luck to you!
  4. okiegirl, I'm on day 12 of the liquids...i'm getting tired of it...then tomorrow need to switch to Clear Liquids (it's been Protein shakes and pureed soup/yogurt for 12 days)...in prep for Thursday's surgery. About the protein shakes. I like the Premier Protein shakes from costco. Learned about it through our support group at St. Joseph's hospital. They are 160 calories, premixed (so convenience to keep with you, 30 grms of protein and only 1 carb. And...they actually taste okay.
  5. yep...clear liquids as of noon tomorrow. went shopping yesterday for diet ginger ale, sf jello cups, cranberry juice and broth...oh, and my sf popsicles. can't forget those. I can't believe it either! And you're right behind me the following week!

    How's the liquid diet going?

  6. Chellz423: How are you feeling now? Did the pain subside? I'm sorry you're hurting. What have you been doing to deal with the pain? Are you walking a lot, etc? I hope it's gone by now. Let us know.
  7. Oliverdog - Good luck! I'm excited too. Surgery is on Thursday for me and I'm hoping to be back at my desk job on Tuesday! So I know what you're saying! As far as the package with signing up for the nutritional/exercise packet...that's up to you...if you think it will help or not. My surgeon's office makes us go through a 3 hour nutritional class where they go over what you need as far as nutrients, vitamins, etc. It was helpful, but I'm guessing that upon discharge after the procedure that they'll go over what you need. Exercise is a different story. We were told that it's a must. That we must get more active. So I joined curves cuz it's something I can do in a 1/2 hour's time (since my excuse is always time ) It's gonna be good. I hope all of you October bandaleros out there will post how you're doing, what's working, what's not...and how you're doing. We can all lean on each other. Good luck to all of us!
  8. Timmmers, thanks so much for posting on your progress. It's so encouraging to hear you're doing so well. I'm getting banded on Thursday. Good luck with it all!
  9. Today is day 11 of the liquid diet. One more day to go, and then Tuesday I switch to all clear liquids...in prep for Thursday's surgery. I'm really excited. Good luck to all of you!
  10. I just found your message. Glad you're doing okay on the liquids! I'm doing okay too. Surgery is only 5 days away. Eeeps!! I'm excited, and nervous...and you're just behind me. Today's thought for me was "this time next week it'll all be over!" I'm ready.

  11. good morning! just wanted to drop you a quick note. today's day 1 of your liquid diet, yes? how's it going? day 9 for me.

yesterday i took the day off and did all my pre-op stuff. it's good that i did because I had to go to the doc in tujunga, the lab in montrose for blood work, Verdugo hills hospital for the chest xray....and then to st. joe's for the nurses assessment. took all day.

so you wanted to know about the nurses assessment. basically, it's like a pre-admitting. you meet with a nurse and she asks you all about your past histories of surgery, current meds, advanced directive, gives you surgery morning instructions. she enters all the info into the computer. it took about an hour or so...but they print up all your stickers for your charts, your wrist band...etc. it was pretty good.

I'm getting excited. just 6 days to go!!!

  12. Gina, The nurse assessment should be maybe an hour. That's what she said when I made the appointment. They do the whole history --- your past surgeries, etc...and what meds you take. I'll let you know tomorrow when I get back from it. Good luck today. We're coming into the home stretch! I'm so ready! Are you going to the support group meeting tonight? If so, I'll see you there.
  13. It's been a week of appointments for me. Monday met with the surgeon (took my husband) and ran into an acquaintance from one of our support group meetings. Hadn't seen her since she was banded in July and she looked amazing! Having her there to ask questions, with my husband listening, was great and gave him a lot of reassurance that it was going to be okay! Yesterday was the 3 hour nutrition class. We went over Protein and Calcium requirements, she gave good sources for mail-order places that have chewable Vitamins, gave out prescriptions for our pain meds for surgery/after, and a little card that the doctor prepared for us when we go out to eat that says we should be able to order off the senior or child's menu or order at a reduced price since our stomach's will only hold 2 oz. Tomorrow is my pre-op physical and nurses assessment. So far so good. Day 7 of the liquid diet. Doing okay. it's not terrible....the weight is not coming off me like I thought it would though. Have lost 4 pounds. I'm so excited. it's just a week and a day away. Monkee's Mommy...keep in touch and let me know how you're doing. We can be buddies. Gina, so great to meet you at class face to face rather than reading your post. Good luck to you!
  14. Hey Andrea, Thank you so much for talking with us today at the doc's office. You have no idea how much it helped my husband to see how healthy you looked and how positive you were about the surgery. It was great to see you. Keep in touch and let me know how you're doing from time to time! Thanks again!

  16. Hi! My date is also on the 15th...and my meeting with the surgeon is tomorrow afternoon. Pre-op stuff this week as well. I'm excited & nervous at the same time. Good luck this week. Keep in touch.
  17. xmagirl: How are you doing? Did your insurance come through with authorization? Everything going okay?
  18. Hey Munkee'sMommy! Congrats! We share the same surgery date. Two weeks from today! I just started the pre-op diet today....so far so good, but I'm not loving the Protein drink (too sweet) but it'll do! Keep in touch and congrats on the great news! Best, Nooshie:thumbup:
  19. xmagirl: I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. As if it's not crazy enough dealing with surgery. Just keep a cool head. I guess I'd just go through with the surgery...i'm sure your doc's office will put in for the surgery. since you've jumped through the hoops, it'll probably be cool. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know what happens.
  20. Hi Gina, I sent you an invitation to the group. Some of the Wednesday night support group people are part of the group. Join if you'd like. It's open to anyone that is in the Burband/SFValley area. (or anyone who'd like to join).
  21. Yes! were you at the last meeting? have I met you in person? Are you on our Banded Around Burbank group on Lapbandtalk? (I'm terrible with names and such so forgive me if we've met and I just am not putting the screen name with real life).
  22. HDMama, I haven't started the liquid diet yet. I start on October 1 (two weeks prior to surgery). But I've gone out and bought my premiere shakes, just have to pick up the yogurt, soup and sugar free popsicles (which don't last in my house!) I'm going to a big ol' party this weekend for my aunt's 75th birthday...bit ol' Armenian celebration...and I'll be on my liquid diet. But it's okay....I've wrapped my head around it! Let the games begin!!! Let me know how it's going for you (with your husband's bday and all). :smile2:
  23. Good Luck to you!! That's just a couple days away! As far as protein shakes, I bought what my support group recommended: Premiere shakes from Costco in Chocolate. I haven't tried them yet since I start my liquid diet on the 1st...but I hear they're good, and have 30 grams of protein, low fat and low carb. All the best!
  24. hey Daria, my date is 10/15. I too am a little anxious, but really excited as well. If you read down on this thread, there's a list of October bandsters and dates. Good luck to us all!
  25. I'm starting the liquid diet on October 1, so went to Costco to buy the Premiere protein shakes that are recommended at our support group meetings at St. Joseph's. 30 grms protein per shake. Next weekend is my aunt's 70th bday party, and i'll be doing the liquid thing...so that's going to be a little tough, but it'll be okay. I'm excited. Can't wait for the 15th. I'm ready.
