Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

DeepinFl: Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'm journaling everything today (and continuing on) to get a handle on this. I don't think it's the juices thing. I have a 4 oz juice box of apple juice that's 60 cals...and then 60 cals of sunsweet plumsmart light. Other than that, it's Water and herbal tea. The soups are pureed low fat veggie soups, Protein shakes (2) that are 160 cals/30 gms protein and 1 carb each.....and then 4 oz of light and fit which I don't have all the time. And the sf popsicles. That's pretty much it. I've never been a juice person....just doing it for the irregularity (and because it was suggested on the post -op list. But thanks for the tip of ALIGN. I'll have to check it out. Most importantly though, you're right. I really do need to count the cals and document it...at least so I can have something to show the doc when I go next week. Thank you again!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi Everyone, I just found this thread and am so happy to find others out there in my same boat. I need advice. I was just banded on 10/15/09. I'm still on the liquids until I graduate to mushies on thursday. For the first week the scale was moving....and now...for the past 4 days, it's stopped...and not only stopped, but starting to creep up and I don't know why? I'm doing the same thing I was....BUT the big diff is that for the past 3 mornings, i'm taking metamucil in a glass in the morning, and some light plum juice (60 cals) in the evening to help with the iron in the protein drink (if you catch what I mean). would this account for a 3 pound weight gain in 2 days??? So wanted to know if any of you out there had similar problems a week out of being banded. I know i'm doing things right...pureed liquids, 4 oz yogurt, pureed low fat soups, sf popsicles, v8 and apple juice...and tons of water. any advice you might have for me would be really appreciated.
  3. No, i don't have staples. I have stitches (that poke through my clothing), and over the stitches, they put crazy glue. Don't worry about the staple removal. Once it's over, it's over. right now i'm dealing with constipation issues. the protein shake has a lot of iron in it, and it's causing me grief. because of that, i'm only having one a day...and i think maybe i'm not getting enough protein cuz the scale hasn't gone down in 4 days. : (

  4. Ref, October 6? Did you have your surgery already? or Nov. 6? - Nooshie
  5. Hi Peeps, I have a question for you all that have been banded about a week or so. I'm still doing the liquid pureed diet (til 2 weeks, then to mushies). I have no restriction in my band. The first few days of banddom, I was watching the pounds come off....now for 4 days, no downward movement. I'm eating very little. One difference is that I'm only having one protein shake now, since i'm feeling too "bound" by the iron in them. My surgeon said to just focus on healing these first few weeks, but still....i'm excited about losing and want to see results. how are you doing (and I know everyone is different)....but are you experiencing weight loss on post op liquid diet?
  6. Oliverdog, I think it's about diversion. If you think about it, the stomach is now sooo small. So it's not really able to hold much, but still, I know what you're saying. I think with me it's more boredom. I don't think I'll be able to look another pureed soup in the face after this. It's super hard too when we're surrounded by food...especially in the workplace. My coworkers and I play the lottery. We had decided that our small winnings would go into the "chocolate fund". They keep a supply of chocolates on hand (like 5 feet away from me) which everyone from around the office comes and enjoys as well as those around me. I find, when I hear the candy dish lid rattle, a few seconds after, I'm suddenly hungry. Pavlovian, yes? But it happens all the time. Lots of stuff going on. So maybe you need to replace the hunger reminder with something else. When you feel so hungry, take it as a cue that you need to grab your water bottle, take a few sips and walk around your office for a minute. Hope it helps....or eases up a bit. Keep me posted.
  7. Great! So happy to hear you're doing okay. Everyday gets better. I even started being able to sleep on my side again! Woot. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  8. KCG, you're so brave to go back to work 2 days after surgery. take it easy and when you get home make sure you rest. i was banded on thurs and didn't go back til tuesday - and i was wiped out at work that day. So my hat's off to you! my doc doesn't do the post op xray, so i didn't have the running to the loo. Hard to believe we're getting to the end of the month. Good luck to all those in October who've yet to be banded...and speedy recovery to all of us!
  9. hey gina,

how are you doing? I've been keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I know you're probably not home yet (if surgery happened on Thursday), but check in when you can. Hope all is well.

  10. Hi Salbri, are you eating enough protein? What kinds of mushy foods are you eating? I was banded on the 15th and am still on pureed liquids, but get to move on to the mushies in one more week. I am sooooo looking forward to cottage cheese! Do you know how many calories you're taking in?
  11. Hi Holly, Congrats on getting banded. It took my 5 days to have a bm so don't worry. Try sunsweet plumsmart light juice...60 calories and not thick like prune juice. I had gas pains in my shoulders for about 5 days out. my neck hurt so bad because they lower your head below the table to put the breathing tube in, so my neck muscles were so strained. Anyways, it all gets better. I'm one week out today and it gets better every day. Hang in there!
  12. Hi Jill, I'm so sorry you had such a hard time of it. I think the weight gain can also be partly because of the IV. If the fluids are going in and not coming out, that could attribute for weight gain. Don't be discouraged though, it'll be coming off soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
  13. Oliverdog: I can so relate. I'm at work right now with the elastic waistband of my skirt pulled up to my bra-line so it won't rub my stitches. My doc didn't put pads on my incisions. They are stitched, and then covered with crazy glue to seal them. Although now that's coming off..but they're healing well. They told me to just pat them dry after showering but to leave them open. Good luck going back to work tomorrow.
  14. Hey Granny, I'm 6 days out today and actually, today is the first day that I'm feeling somewhat back to normal. Yesterday was my first day back and work, and I was wiped out by the time I got home. I was feeling so bloated from the protein drink I had in the morning, that I didn't feel like eating anything til that evening when it finally felt better. I'm on pureed diet for two weeks and then graduate to mushy foods. As far as what I'm eating and drinking: We're told to sip 48 oz of water throughout the day. Then strive to get 50 grm of protein a day. The premier shakes from Costco are premade and have 30 grms/160 cals/1 carb per shake. So I've been trying to have one of those...can't do two at this point...too filling. But I'll have about 6 oz in the morning. sip water. herbal tea. then try to do more shake, etc. then it's kind of a toss up. a cup of pureed soup. a 4 oz light and fit yogurt. a sugar free popsicle. I'm not taking in too much. up until yesterday, I was too burpy to want to eat. Today's a bit better.
  15. Oliverdog -- So sorry. : ) I know it's TMI. But I wanted to share with all of you that I found a good remedy. Someone on one of the other threads shared a juice that she called "human drano". : ) Sunsweet Plum Smart Light. Only 60 calories, it's not thick like prune juice, has probiotic fiber...and did the trick! I'm a happy camper. :cursing:
  16. OliverDog, Congrats and welcome to the other side. I can't imagine having to travel that far immediately after surgery. Glad ou are home safe and getting some rest now. I am feeling better today. I am 4 days out of surgery and going back to work tomorrow. Yesterday had terrible pain in my shoulder area...but seems to be better today. I'm still burpy...are the rest of you out there? seems like no matter how small a sip i take, it creates a painful pressure burp...and another question for you bandsters out there...how long after surgery did you get to poo? Good luck all of you!
  17. Chickychoo - Good luck to you tomorrow. Don't worry about a thing. It's going to be great and soon you'll be on the other side of the band journey. I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers! Check in and let us know how you're doing. Good luck to all our this week's bandsters!
  18. Hi Gina,

Just wanted to check in with you. How are you doing? Your surgery is coming up. Excited? You're going to do fine. How's the liquid diet going? I'm doing okay...just very burpy. : ( but I've lost 13 pounds. when was the last time that happened!

    Wishing you the best,

    Love,

    Anush

  19. First night home. By evening my neck was really sore. They told me that they hang the head off the operating table to facilitate the intubation.....the way it feels is that all the muscles of the neck are strained. It's a little less sore this morning though, and I got up to take a walk around the neighborhood. learning to sip is something new. the larger the swallow, the more pain as it goes down...so tiny baby sips. I have a caffeine withdrawal headache though. The doctor says decaf only as the caffeine would produce too much acid. all complaints aside, I'm doing fine. Just new adjustments.
  20. I'm on the other side of the band now! Surgery yesterday, 10/15. Everything went well. They have you up and walking laps around the nurses station (20 laps = 1 mile), and it helps with the gas. I'm doing okay. I have pain in my neck - soreness from when they hang your head back off the table to insert the breatheing tube. and my throat is sore from the tube as well. I'm learning how to sip my water, because swallowing like I used to causes too much air in. so it's a learning process. Just wanted to check in and wish all of you upcoming bandees, good luck!!
  21. Good Luck Munkee's Mommy!!! I'm so sick of broth and jello!!!! :sneaky: I'm pumped for tomorrow. Bring on the band!!!
  22. Thanks Tina! I'll be off work til Tuesday (and even might take Tuesday if I need to) so I'm planning on taking it easy. Oh, here's a question for all of you that have been banded. Do they catheterize you for surgery? Were you intubated? Did you wake up with the tube in? I'm curious.
  23. Txtigergirl -- I'm with you on tomorrow's surgery date. I'm excited. What time tomorrow: I'm at 7:30 a.m. California time! Good luck to you and all of us out there getting banded this month!
  24. thanks so much Gina. I appreciate all your messages and having someone that I can share with. So last night I thought for sure I had a head cold. it's cold in my house...so my nose was running. I put on my sweatshirt....had tons of tea....water, broth....even though, Hey, i'll gargle with listerine since it's supposed to kill germs on contact. I got to bed and my mind was going a mile a minute...what if...what if...if i have a head cold but my nose is clear do I tell the surgeon....all these kinds of thoughts. So I had to calm myself and just pray. I took it out of control and put it in God's hands. And I woke up feeling better. : ) So I'm here today, with my broth and my jello. I'm less than 24 hours out. Eeeps!
