    August Rush in bandland!

Good Morning Everyone! The plateau has finally disappeared. I was down 1 lb yesterday and another 1 1/2 lbs today for a total of 22lbs gone since surgery!! YAY ME!! I had to make a change in my eating for the scale to move. I have not eaten dinner for the past 2 nights and have opted for a protein shake instead and have not put anything but water in my mouth past 6pm. I'm learning what works and what doesn't. I went to a support group meeting last night at my Dr.'s office and they STRESSED the fact that we need to eat and stop at the first sign of fullness then THROW THE REST AWAY! I have to say that I stop but have a habit of going back for a couple more bites as soon as I feel that I have a lil room. Happy Friday Yall!!!

    End of Year Challenge

Congrats! I was also down a pound this morning! The weekends are my downfall so I'm thinking a Monday weigh in will help keep me on track!
  4. I suffered with remendous gas pains for the first 12 days. I didnt have them in my shoulder like everyone describes. I felt like someone put a hose in my mouth and just kept filling me with air. It bothered me day and night but night was by far more worse when I laid down. I was actually bigger than I was prior to surgery because of this. No amount of burping could get rid of it and it wasnt coming out the other end either. I started taking GasX strips that dissolve on your tongue along with the chewable ones and did get a little relief. Everytime I would try to take even the smallest sip it was like I had no room in my tummy cause it was so full of air and drinking would produce the worst pain in my chest that lingered. I could not drink and ended up dehydrated. In time it went away on its own. I can remember waking up one morning and thinking, OMG, I dont have the gas pains!! Check with your doctor and get you some GasX. Hope you find relief SOON!!!

    The Five Day Pouch Test

Thanks! I'm going to try it myself. If it's not too bad, I think I might just do it each Monday thru Friday! I need some structure until I get restriction.

Quick Lunch / Where do you go?

what about a baked potato? I did mashed taters for a while when I was on soft foods. Or you could go somewhere that serves Breakfast 24hrs a day and get soft scrambled egg.

    August Rush in bandland!

OK, I'm still waiting on the part where you tell us there was a McDreamy or McSteamy!!!!! That would have made it worth having an audience!

    Very upset and disappointed.

I just have to say that ANY weight loss procedure can be beat if you eat the wrong foods. My husband had gastric bypass and was losing very fast. He decided one day that he was missing out on the things he loved the most....diet cokes and little debbies. Since he started back with his old eating habits, he not only stopped losing but has gained 40 of the 140lbs he lost. What I'm trying to say is that we are each personally accountable for what goes into our mouths. No one can make you fat but you! With all that said, I do feel for you!!!!!! We all have eating issues or else we wouldnt be banded. I wish you the best with whatever you decide to do.
  10. Elfie and Betsy, I've seen both of you post that you drink "almond milk". What is this and where do I get it? How is this any different from milk? From what I understand, you both use it to make Protein drinks.....mixed with the powders, right? Betsy, I know you use the ones from bariatriceating.com. What flavors are the best. I was hoping to find a vanilla but didnt see one. Have you tried the ice-cream sandwich one? I get sooooo tired of chocolate...really have never found one I like and I LOVE chocolate! (Hersheys)

    End of Year Challenge

I would love to join you also. I was banded Aug 16 and have lost 19 lbs so far. My original goal was to lose a total of 35 lbs by the end of the year which means I have 16 to go. Hopefully my 2nd fill on Nov 12 will give me some restriction so I can acheive this goal! Good luck to all!
  16. You are correct, I was self pay.
  17. LMAO!! You rock! It wasnt a privacy violation, they can see me! It was in a general information session and there were people sitting behind me that I could hear. I did good not to turn around and give them a piece of my mind! I know they arent the only ones. When I went for pre-op tests, the technicians would also make comments! I really don't care what anyone thinks but I'm not going to put myself in that situation if I dont have to.
  18. I have been several times with my husband who had gastric bypass and I LOVED them. It's amazing! Everyone has to stand up and say their name, surgery date and progerss they have made. Their stories are very inspiring!! I have cried tears of joy for some of these people. I would recommend it to anyone! I feel like I cannot go now that I've had surgery though! I feel too discriminated against by the others there because I am so much smaller than they are. My BMI at surgery was 32. I could hear people talking about me at the consultation meeting thay I had at attend prior to surgery. It was awful! I don't want to have to feel like that again!!

2 Weeks Post Surgery and ...

We all like to eat or else we wouldnt be in the situation we are in. I have also had a fillet of fish since surgery. I was out of town with friends and MCD's is where they went for lunch. A fillet of fish has 391 calories.......if you take the bread away along with some of the tartar sauce it is probably closer to 200 calories and it has 16g Protein. I realize its not a perfect meal but in a pinch it works for me! One of my favorite sayings I have come across since surgery is: No one can turn back and have a new beginning but anyone can start today and create a new ending! Make changes each day towards your new ending!!!! You can do it!
  20. Marie, I am so sorry that you have had to go through this horrible experience. Keep your chin up girl! You have already lost a good bit of weight and will lose a good bit more before you can eat normally again. You can do it!! I truly believe that you are still here for a reason. God has plans for you! I will pray for a speedy recovery. I know what you mean about it changing your outlook on life. My hubby has severe complications form gastric bypass a few years ago. It made us both see things in a different light! He is fine now and you will be fine too! Keep us all posted on your recovery!

Do you go to a Gastro or Family doc for stomach problems?

At my final consult before surgery, my dr stressed that if I had ANY issues to come to him. He had just come from the hospital with a patient that had some stomach issues that were being treated by a family dr. I think your surgeon knows exactly what was done during surgery and not all physicians completely understand what a band patient has gone through. I would probably trust my surgeon, after all you trusted him to cut on you. Not sure what your problem is but have your tried GasX? The ones that dissolve on your tongue really helped me. I took pepcid 24 for the first month along with gas x. Hope you get better soon!

    August Rush in bandland!

I wish my Dr would have used a low profile port it there really is such a thing. Mine already looks like I swallowed a golf ball. I do not have much weight in my middle to start with. I carry the pounds below the waist! .....as the song goes......."Little in the middle but she's got much back" On my first visit after surgery I asked if it would always stick out like this or if it was because of swelling and he said it would get more noticeable as my weight dropped. He also told me that once he had to reposition a port because it was so noticable and he placed it between her breasts! I cant imagine it being there!!! I also cant imagine going through surgery again just to have a smaller port.
  23. I had BA surgery 15 yrs ago and at the time I was a sz 4. I am also 5'4. I have a c cup and am 100% happy with them. I have very close friends who still do not know. They look and feel natural. Personally I would get something that would look NATURAL, like you were born with them. I wouldnt want to look like I had surgery. A "C' cup is the biggest believable size I would get if I were a size 2. I do not think its attractive when someone looks like "boobs on legs". My hubbys comment when he sees someone that looks like that is "She bought them too big!" Something else you might want to consider is that when you are that small, clothes do not fit properly in the chest because women that small do not have breasts that big. A ffriend of mine has to buy larger dresses and have them altered to accomodate her boobs. Ultimately the decision is yours and yours alone. Good Luck!

    Proteing Shots in the Tube

I've spent a small fortune on Protein and in my opinion the Super whey Protein Shots from Walmart are by far the best. They are 2.9 oz and come in fruit punch flavor with 26g of protein and 110 calories. A couple sips and its gone with no aftertaste! They are $1.88 each or $9.98 for a box of 6. I keep them in the fridge and have 1 a day. I tried the ones from GNC and they are way too strong to drink alone. I tried mixing them in crystal light but then it takes forever to get them down. I'd rather be done with it fast! They are also much more expensive! I have yet to find a milky Protein Drink that I can tolerate.
  25. Is it normal to have a fill and restriction to show up over a week later?? I had my first fill last Monday, 9/27 and I didn't notice any restriction until last night. At dinner I could only eat about 1/4 cup of food and I was FULL! I had the same thing happen this morning with my yogurt for Breakfast....yogurt usually goes down and I never get that full feeing. I'm so excited!!!! Maybe the scale will start moving again!!!
