Hey Everyone, Here is the deal I admit in highschool i was average size and really didnt exercise all that much .Now the older I got I put on more weight and tried exercising and got discouraged because exercising never really made a difference,.Then over time I found I was always hungry and just gave up..... I was ready another post that if people are have a hungry feeling alot and are into exersising then the Lapband is a right choice for them. If not then the Gastric by pass would be a more acceptable procedure for them? I dont have a treadmill here and am saving for one. I walk the dogs daily -harder in winter but am saving for a treadmill. To be honest I know the band is a toll to aid in WL but I am more apt to exercise when some of this 236 lbs is off my 5'3" body frame for physical reasons and emotional...... What is your opion on this about the reasons for the different types of surgery and the excersie? How many of you didnt excersise before the lapBand but were more motivated to after ?How was your success or non sucess? Thanks, Melanie

TQuad64, Thank you for your reply. I feel like why bother when I am this weight.I get out of breath ,my hips hurt and I get depressed because i know I have done all the exercising before it never made a dent and I was in bed for days depressed and then eat tons. I am worried I wont be able to get into this routine once or if I decide to have the LapBand. I wanted to know that other people were like me. Gentle Wind, Your take on it makes sense. While I do believe exercise is unjoyable and never will be ,I believe with losing a bit of weight will make it easier. I am off to get a treadmill and start out slow but steady.Everyday maybe 20 mins at first and so on from there. Melanie

I just want to add that I understand 110% that with either route(surgery) you take exercise is part of teh program. But I am wondering if any of you went from coach potatoe to really getting into the exercise? Was there limitations/lack of motivation before your surgery? Melanie

Hello , I receieved an email back from MSI in Novba Scotia asking if the Lap Band is covered and what constituse it being covered ( any certain conditions or BMI) and teh email back is as follows: I am able to advise lap band surgery is not listed as an insured service under MSI. Therefore, in order for any costs to be paid for this surgery, your specialist physician has to request prior approval from MSI. All physicians are aware of the necessary process in writing to our Medical Consultant outlining the details for prior approval. At that time a response letter is forwarded to the specialist, who in turn would advise you of the outcome. I am not privy to what criteria is reviewed as each case has to be determined on a individual basis. I trust this is helpful. --------- My question is does the letter to MSI have to come from The surgeon preforming teh lap band like Dr.Beausoiel or my family doctor?? Also Dr.Beausoiel wouldnt have my full medical condition that contributed to me seeking a referel from my family doctor to see him.So would he tell MSI why I would need this surgery based on his finding or findings in my medical chart from my family doctor?? What worries me is I have only seen my family doctor for 9 months. He isnt a doctor to care about ones weight and says keep walking. Since I gained this weight I had been put on anti depression medicine and had my gall bladder out. I am on Domperidone and Pantoloc for stomach problems and gastronal relux issues and bowel issues. I have irregular periods and very long periods. In Ontario my old doctor told me I had Polysystic Ovarian Syndrom but my doctors here cant find that........I am afraid that IF (as its a small town and not many peple have had it done here and he believes walking will do the trick) my family doctor recommends me he wont explain the reason as stated above why I need this surgery.......I think he thinks the weight is not the other problem to the conditions I have....................What do I do ? Thanks, Melanie

Hey All, I am new here and trying to get as much information as possible. Basicially does a fill mean they adjust the band to restrict the amount of food consumption ? Does your dr decide when a fill is nessacary? How do you know? Trying to get a handle on the whole fill process.... Thanks, mlm

Hey All, I am new here. I am over weight and it is getting worse. According to the websites of BMI .I am at 40.8 I am 2'3" and weigh 236. I am having trouble breathing and my hips and back constantly hurt. I went from a size 8 to a 20. I am so depressed. I live ina small town in Antigonish and I feel that this is not a topic a lot of doctors are comfortable with here and not familiar with,. How did you go about discussing the lapband with your doctor? Did he put you on a diet plan first ? How long did you talk with him about this before going the next step? What are the exact steps to take up until surgery in the province of NS? It wont be a while until I have this surgery but am interested about learning all I can now. Thanks, mlm

Hey All, I live in Nova Scotia and am wondering about the process here . I know you need approval from your doctor and a letter gets sent to MSI and they may cover ebverything but the Lap band itself.Which if you have to pay for it costs on average around $4500.00.... Can you claim this $4500.00 only on your income tax or the whole amount $ approx 16000.00 if MSI covers it ? What companies do financing here in NS for surferies in NB? Also where can I find a list of requirements MSI need you to have in order fo r your doctor and them to approve you?? Thank you, Mlm

Hey Everyone, I am 27 years old and from Nova Scotia,Canada.I weigh 236 pounds and an 5'3". My hips and back are hurting.I am having trouple sleeping at night and breathing. I am thinking this is from all teh extra weight I am carrying around. This is teh heaviest I have been. Going from a size 8 to a size 20 is a bummer.especially in a metter of 2.5 years. I admit I am new to this board and procedure but look forward to learning more. Please dont mind me asking tons of questions. Thanks, mlm
