    Name Your NSV

Lena, it was great to hear from you, I've been wondering how you were doing! I've been in the woods for 3 weeks so I'm just now catching up from the end of June. Any hoo, I lost 8 lbs on vacation and when I got home I tore through my "old clothes" I wore a pair of size 14 shorts today at work!!! First of all, size 14 is really cool... but to wear shorts to work? That hasn't been done in 5 plus years! My fat cankles and fleshy knees, would always stop me from doing it. The best I would do was capri's. Today was 100 degrees, and I did it!!! I am so proud of myself. My legs actually looked ok -not great- but not horrible either. I think I'll do it again tomorrow when it 's 103. I deliver mail, and in the jeep it gets to be about 115! I am so happy that I wore shorts today! Just wanted to share, I'm glad everyone is doing so good!:cursing:
  2. I just had to share this with you ladies cause I'm just bustin'. I got a reading on my BMI from the calorie count website and it said: Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 34.8, you are currently classed as moderately overweight. I cannot tell you all how much I hate the word Obese! I hated being it. I am just so bless to have been able to get this lap band and learned how to live with it. I am continuing to lose more weight and soon I might be "normal weight" Won't that be awesome??????

    pbing to much?

Yes, we're different. The feeling I talked about in my post was not a "should not take another bite" feeling. I was talking about an ever so small "something might be stuck" feeling. As far as PBing goes. The Productive Burping is your body getting rid of air so that the food can go down. After a few minutes of pbing, I can safely eat more. (I'm not saying eat too much, but being able to finish my 1 cup of food is nice.) Slime is the food coming up because it can't go down. Again, it is not vomit. Sliming is necessary when there is a block and the food won't pass through. I find that I can eat anew after a few minutes. If you want to go to liquids that's cool too. I was just saying what has worked for me.

    Christian bandsters

You two are exactly right about what "people" say! I for one kept it private until after I started losing. I still haven't told anyone at work, just family and my small group. I just wanted to avoid the little quips like Don't you have any will power? Isn't Christ enough? You should pray more! Actually because of this mentality I did a lot of praying and searching guidance before I did it. I told God that I needed CLEAR guidance and direction before I would do this. And God is so faithful! The verse He gave me was "If your right eye offends you pluck it out..." This was so perfect for my situation! I have been obsessing on my weight, my calories, my food for soo many years and tried over and over to give it to God. This band has been the prompt I needed to give it up! Praise Him for his mighty works! It was like cutting off my right hand...Now that temptation is gone from my life! Now when people ask about why couldn't I do it on my own I tell them, many people need extra help in many areas even you! God knows our shortfalls. Some people have to give up computers, some have to stay away from small children, some need Anger management. I needed a restriction! Sorry church ladies, nobody is as perfect as you are! Even you. I'll get off my soap box now.:smile2:

    pbing to much?

I thought I'd weigh in on this pbing thing. (No pun intended) As I understand it, PB is the burping that helps food move around to get it to go down. Sliming is when it won't go down and needs to come up and out. I will talk about both. Some days I am eating and feel the stuck feeling coming on ever so small. That's when I stop eating and wait. If I keep eating, I'm just asking for trouble. After waiting 4-6 minutes, I'm good to eat more. Other days when I eat too fast or don't chew well, I will start bping. I must not eat another bite after my first burp cause my body is trying to unstick something. This to me means, STOP EATING NOW! If I heed the warning, I am usually fine. Then there are times that I need to slime. When I haven't chewed well or eaten too fast and don't listen to the warning signs, I need to get it out and start over again. If I do this right away, I can come back and, after a while, eat more. If I try to hold it in and not get it out right away, I am in for a worse time! If I have to wait, then the sliming turns into projectile forcing (not vomit, cause there is never bile in it) And I am miserable for a couple of hours after that. This is when it's no fun at all having the band. But as I see it I've done it to myself by eating wrong! To avoid these at all costs, I eat SLOW! (I have learned to eat cold food) And I tell my family that it takes me over an hour to eat 1 cup of food so they don't watch me! At a restaurant, I get a to go box right away and put aside what I can have later. Then with just a little food in front of me it's easier to eat slow. I chew and chew and chew! Sometimes I have to spit out a piece of meat or hard stuff that will not break down. This is icky but very important! I take the smallest bites possible, this makes it easier to chew and you can listen to your body for warning signs. Whenever I do all the above I can eat a meal w/o running to the bathroom! Another trick is to add slider foods between bites of dry meat and such, they will help to get your pouch working right. For example, at a Mexican restaurant I will eat a bite of chip between bites of asado. You can use Soup like this also, it gets to more solid food to slide down! Other times I will eat a few chips to get my stomach working before I sit down for dinner, it's weird but it works. (I don't mean a bag of chips, just a few!) LOL I hope some of this helps. I am loving the band and, more importantly, learning to live with it!

    Fill Updates!

Welcome! Happy to have you join us on our journey. First to your question: Fluctuating by 5 is not uncommon! Water weight and other factors always happen. I would stay off the scale but once a week if this bothers you. 2nd question: When you get banded, the original feeling of fullness is only because of the swelling from surgery. There is no restriction yet. I felt absolutely no restriction till my 2nd fill. Now after my third, I am at a very good place of my pouch restricting the amount of food that I can eat. During the times of little restriction like you are in now. Just practice the lap band way of eating and drinking. Small bites, chew well and when drinking take small sips. You can eat the other way now, but later in your journey you will need to eat this way. I wish I had practiced more back then cause I need it now! Good luck on your journey, and God Bless,

    Fill Updates!

Yuck is right. I have never puked so much as I do now. Sometimes it's very embarrassing and frustrating! I need to focus on smaller bites and chewing well. I even had a problem with cottage cheese one day at work! Eating too fast I guess. But boy am I on a losing streak right now!!! I was stuck at 215 for 4 weeks before this third fill. Now I am at 203 and am sooooo excited to get under 200! I actually like eating slower because it gives me a chance to focus on why I liked shoveling food in the first place. It gives me time to reflect. Time to form new healthier habits. Hope to hear mor stories from others!

    Fill Updates!

I just got my third fill on Monday. I have good restriction and have been having a lot of trouble with eating. I need to slow way down and chew better! Sometimes I have to slime after the 4th bite! It is very frustrating at times but this is what I wanted! Something to restrict my out of control eating! So, I make good food choices and eat very very slow. Most of the time my dinner gets cold and I'm only on my 3rd bite. I hope everyone is doing fine. This board has been very quiet lately. I guess we are all out having fun with our new hot selves!

    What do you all do?

I deliver the mail! I love my job and when the weather is nice it's 10 times better!

    Hows everyone doing?

It sure has been quiet on here lately. I am at 38 lbs lost and am so very happy that I did this! I LOVE getting full before my plate is clean. I LOVE never being burdened with hunger and I just LOVE loosing this fat! After my second fill things started working like they said they would. Before then I could eat way too much way too often. Now it's impossible for me to eat more than 1 cup of food at a time. I get most of my Protein from drinks. I am wearing a size 16 pants now! WOOHOO! I was wearing size 20 when this started. I am the same size up top though. Which is a good thing, cause I don't really want to loose any boob volume. Well, I hope you all have a wonderful Easter and stay away from the chocolate!
  18. Well I go in today at 11. I will get a fill I don't know how much but I'll let you all know. I know several of us are getting our first fills this week, so I wanted to start this thread for updates and rants. I think I really need this fill as I can eat more food now than at the beginning of this journey. I guess my stoma was swollen at first, but now it seems like normal, like I had nothing done. Hopefully this fill will give me back that full feeling that I loved (and need). Good luck to all of you and please, let us know how your fills go.

    Trouble foods

Is anyone having trouble with certain foods? I have a real hard time with rice and bread. I get a horrible stuck feeling and need to get it up and out before I can feel better. It's so weird. At church the other day we were having a salad pot luck and it happened there too.

    Trouble foods

I do the timer thing too Lena. It is very helpful. I also use it before a meal. As soon as I start to feel hungry, I'll take the last sip and then set my cell phone alarm for 30 minutes. When it goes off, I'm real hungry and my battle then is eating slowly!

    I get my fill today!

Just got my second fill today. He put in 1cc today so that's a total of 5 in my 12cc band. I love how it feels after a fill. I could go all day and eat nothing! Good thing too because I go 24 hours on liquids. How is everyone else doing on fills? is anyone on their 3rd?

    What are your skinny goals?

Oh, what are my goals? I hadn't really thought about them. I know my final goal is to weigh 137! But short term goals...? How about 60lbs by my birthday on June 27th. That would be 26 more lbs lost in 3 months. Is that doable? Well, I've lost 34 in the last 11 weeks and June 27th is 14 weeks away...Yes I can do that! That will bring me closer to my long term goal. So I'll have 55 more to go after that. Lets set a final date of March 2010!!! That's losing 1.5lbs a week. Is that too fast?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! Enjoy your day, hottie!

    Name Your NSV

My biggest NSV Has to be Feeling great during a workout. At first I fought the notion of exercise. Then my daughter and I joined a club and with her help I went from 20min on the elliptical machine to 40min. Now we do even higher resistance. I never thought I could do this and I am really enjoying it. It's also is a great time with my 19 year old, skinny as a rail daughter. Another one is wearing rings that I haven't been able to fit on in years. Also I had to go through my bags of "I can't fit into these clothes" this morning!

Has anyone had a fill yet?

Congrats Peanutband!! I have lost 34 in the same 9 weeks isn't it wonderful? I go in for my second fill on Monday. I am very excited about it. Oh and I hit 40 minutes on the elliptical machine yesterday!!! My wonderful daughter has been pushing me. God bless her! I'll report back after the second go round.
