    Tricare Prime and Lap Band

    Jade First do you have Trime Prime? Because I can only tell you what I know with them. With me I am 265lbs at 5'5. Tricare Prime goes by the MetLife chart (med frame) That means I should weigh 127 - 141. So I should lose about 124lbs (damm thats more then my 24yr old daughter weights lol) I never had surgery before. I have hypertension and multiple chronic joint pains. Ok with that said Tricare approved me in 2 days. I hope this helps. You can also call Tricare and they would be glad to answer any of your questions. I know they were a big help for me. Good Luck
  3. Hello everyone well today I had an Upper GI done (nasty) I only have two more test to do. Today I am also going to the Dr to see if she can give me help with quitting smoking before my surgery which is May 19. I'm hoping I can do it in 3 month. I know it is going to be hard because I am 48 and I have been smoking since I was 16. But I know I can do it. :w00t: My surgeon wants me to do it before my surgery. She tells everyone she will not do the surgery until you have quit smoking for acouple of months. Does anyone have and ideas on how to do this? Please don't be ulgy about it. (lol)

    Tricare Prime and Lap Band

    Hi I have Tricare Prime and this is what they wanted from me A referral from my PCM and a Pshyc eval and nutrition visit and whatever test you surgeon orders. My approval for surgery came back in 2 days. I got got my date May 19. Also call Tricare if you have any questions they really are easy to talk to and if they don't know the answer they will find someone who does. I feel like I was alway calling them. I was told Tricare and Tricare Prime do not do everything the same. But I don't know for sure. Good Luck

    Thinkin' about this

    Hello Barbara What I can tell you is I'm from Horn Lake and I am going to Dr Virginia Weaver and her staff is great. But she is so busy so what I can tell you is when you think you are really you need to call them they will send you a packet to fill out and then send it back to them and then they will send you another packet of everything you need to do next. Right now she is taking dates for surgery for May it may even be June by now. My date is May 19. Good Luck in whatever you do.

    Will tricare approve me (comorbidities)?

    Tricare is great they don't make you go thru as much as other insurance company so your wait isn't as long plus you get your approval back in as little as 2 days. The biggest hold up for me is that my Dr is booked up until May so my date is not until May 19. Just make sure the letter your PCP writes he puts in everything that is going on with you that is a big thing with Tricare. Good Luck

    Rumor?? Tri Care No longer covering lapband??

    Well Tricare is still covering lapband I got a call from my doctor office yesterday telling me Tricare approve me for lapband. But the only thing is my doctor is book until May. So my date is not until May 19. But at least I have a date I guess. Good luck to your friend.
  8. Well I went to the Dietition Thursday and they are going to turn my paperwork into Tricare Prime this coming week. I sure hope everything goes okay with it. Only thing is the doctor I am using is booked thru April. I'm so worry about Tricare because of everything I have read on this web site.:thumbdown:

    Why do you say Tricare Prime people have a struggle to get an approval. I am Tricare Prime and my doctors office is getting everything together now for me to get it turned into Tricare this coming week. Where do you go online to check on it?

    Tricare in the Memphis area

    Thanks everyone. First yes I am Tricare Prime South. Second I have an appointment with the Dietitian on Jan 22. They told me I needed to bring 350.00 because Tricare does not cover that part of the process. But that doesn't sound right to me because it is apart of the process. I can't wait until this process is over. What is driving me crazy is that I haven't even seen the Doctor yet.

    Tricare Prime {south}

    My PCP got my referral to the surgeon And that is all I have so far I haven't even seen her yet I don't see her until everything is done when I go to the Dietitian she will let me know what else I may need before she can file to Tricare for the surgery

    Tricare Prime {south}

    Hello everyone I am going thru the process right now. So far I have done the 3 months of weigh in's with my PCP. I have went to the Psychologist. And now on Tuesday I go to see the Dietitian. My question is does Tricare pay for the Dietitian and Nutrition? Dr. Weaver's office in Memphis told me I have to pay for that and everything I read online on this web site Tricare will pay for it. I talk to Tricare and they said it's all in how they file it. Well what does that mean and how do I know how they will file it? So on Tuesday they want 350 dollars from me. Thanks:confused:

    Memphis recommendation - Dr. Weaver

    Hello I was looking around this web site today and found your about Dr. Weaver. She is the Dr. that my Ins company is sending me to. If you don't mine I would like to ask you a couple of questions about the whole thing. I am going to the Dietitian on Jan 6. I am wondering if I do all the other pre-op test before my Ins approval. I just don't know how long it will take Tricare to approve it. And how long after you saw the Dietitian did you have your surgery? Thanks for whatever help you can give me.

    New Here from Memphis

    Cool don't forget to call your Ins company and see what they have to say about it and what they say you have to do because you maybe able to cut some time off your wait if you don't have to do everything in the program. {like 6 months of weigh in's}. Good Luck

    New Here from Memphis

    I have been dealing with them since the end of Sept. you need to call them so they can send you out a packet to fill out and send back to them. And after they approve you they will send you another packet outlining everything you need to do. You need to find out from you Ins company what they need from you also. Like my Ins company doesn't make me have weigh in's with my reg doctor but Dr Weaver office still made me do 3 months some Ins companys makes you do 6 months. { my Ins company is Tricare} And you have to see an psychologist. After Dr Weaver office receive the report from the psychologist the Dietitian will call you and make an appointment to she her and that is where I am now I she her on the 6th of Jan. I hope all of this helps. Good Luck with everything.

    New Here from Memphis

    Hello I'm from Horn Lake, Ms. I hope everything goes okay for you with this process. Can be a long one or a short one it is all up to your Ins company. This is a cool website you can learn alot from it. I wm seeing a Doctor in Memphis Dr. Virginia Weaver I hear she is very good. But I don't even see her for the first time until everything else is done first.
  18. Hello everyone. I have a question. I have been doing this for 3 months now. I'm done with my weigh in's with my Doctor and I saw a Psychologist and Jan 6 I go to see the Dietitian. My question is, is all the other lab and testing done before or after your insurance company approve you for surgery.
  19. help1977

    New to this

    I'm worry that I will go and do all this and Tricare Prime will not approve it. My PCP and the Psychologist said this would be good for me and they are backing me 100% but you never know about Tricare. It just seems like it takes so long to get everything done and the funny thing is, is that tricare doesn't make you do all of this but the Doctors office does.:hurray:
