  1. For those of us banded last October, It's birthday time. Happy Birthday. I was banded on October 31st, 2009. I have lost 82lb, (38.1kg).

I live in Melbourne Australia, I have had no trouble since until this week. I am haing terrible reflux which wakes me at night. I am going to make an appointment tomorrow to have some removed.

I am thrilled with my surgery and so are my daughter and husband who have had it too and are looking HOT!

    Happy Halloween,

    :smile:Alison

  2. I had some initial resistance from family, now they are so happy to see the change and are encouraging my husbsand to be banded, He has sleep apnoea, diabetes and a heart condition so he really needs it.

:thumbup:I have lost 17.5 kg, 38.5 pounds, my daughter has lost 54kg, 119 pounds. So many people ask our secret. Some of these have struggled for years like me, so now I don't hesitate to tell them the answer.:)

I have decided not to tell anyone I am getting the Lap-band. The only ones who know are my mother, father, and husband and that is because I live with my folks and lol how can you not tell your husband lol.

I am just really frustrated today. I want so badly to share my excitment with someone, but I just know deep down if I start telling I won't get the reaction I want. I know my family and friends too well. My husband doesn't try to talk me out of it, but he isn't excited. My mom worries about everything so she asks me everyday if I am sure about this. Then my dad doesn't say anything. I THINK he feels that it is an easy way out.

I'm not one to care what others think, I really don't care what they say/think, I just wish I had someone face to face to chat about this with. Does anyone else who has made the same decision not tell tell ever feel this way????????

  3. I know this has probably already been discussed somewhere else, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Sorry! :)

I was wondering who other people in Melbourne went to for their band and how much it cost (if that is not too rude)?

I was considering going to The Avenue as I have heard good things about the place, but I wondered if there were other good doctors and how much I should expect to pay?

So excited for the band! :ihih:

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

HI, I went to the Avenue. They were great and follow up is bulk billed. I was booked for a first appointment an a doc in Williamstown but they put it off from late August to Late January, for only the first appointment! My daugher went there and they a lot each fill.

The Ave charge from$3000-4000 but there are not more costs, even if you need more surgery, god forbid. My appointments are only 1/2 hour wait, mt daughter can be there for hours and hours.

    I hope this is helpful.:wink5:

  4. I am a newby too. It will take me some time to get used to being part of this forum since I haven't ever experienced it before. So, please be patient.

Just by listening here and there I feel like there is so much good information at this site and it will help me in the coming days/weeks/months...

Hi, stick with it. I am still finding my way around but I am finding it very useful.

  5. I just had my 3rd fill and.....WOW!!.... do I have restriction for the first time. Now I need to sort out fullness from being "stuck". As mentioned above, now I must really practice discipline in small bites, eating slowly and chewing extremely well. I didn't get past my first bite tonight at dinner. So I know I wasn't full but I sure was stuck. It took over an hour and several barfs to get beyond the really uncomfortable feeling. Every time I took a breath, it got worse. Please understand, I am not complaining. This is what I wanted, the very reason I did this. I just hope my experience helps others so they don't experience this intense discomfort. This is serious stuff, not to be taken lightly. Since this is the 1st restriction I have had in over 4 months I needed to learn the hard way. Good luck everyone.

I met someone in the waiting room who had become seriously stuck and was in pain in the middle of the night. He rang the specialist who said to drink coke, (not diet). It starts to dissolve the food and helps it to bubble up. It worked, but still took an hour. I thought this would be handy to know.

  6. I have just found out about a weight loss support group not far from me (melb west). The group meets once a month to share successes, concerns etc. Everyone takes lunch so others can get ideas and see portion sizes etc. At the end of the session they have a clothing swap. I'm really looking forward to attending the next meeting. Perhaps there are groups similar in other areas too.

Hi, thinking slim, I would lvoe contact details for the group please.

  7. That is such a good idea (clothing swap). Obviously when you are losing weight so consistently you dont want to have to replace your wardrobe all the time and I have often wondered what to do with my clothes as well.

I'll be happy to go to this kind of group in the South Eastern Suburbs or similar. I live in Bayside and there aren't too many size 22's mincing around my suburb I can tell you that much. If only Prada did plus size clothing...........lol

Congratulations Megsy on your banding! You are doing so well already. My daughter has just lost 53 kg, I got a lot of new clothes from her. The rest, 6 large bags, went to the Salvos, thewap would have been great.

  8. :) live in Melbourne, inner north. Bandered Oct. '07. by Paul Dumbrell. Starting to lose my focus, feeling isolated . Would like to make contact with others in Melbourne for a bit of a yarn:tt2: and mutual support, compare and share experiences. Anybody else feel the same? I'm glad to have found this site , not great with using this technology :tongue2: but having a go.

  9. Hi my name is Alison. I had my band done 2 months ago. I have lost 10kg to date. I have found I am eating more in the last couple of days but have another fill on Thursday. I am 48 and have been inspired by my daughter who has lost 52kg and no longer has polycystic ovarian syndrome due to her weight loss.:)

By the way, how do I get a cool graph on my posts?:tongue2:
