all of the fluid in my band is gone!

Something similar happened to me.. I have a 4 cc band and thought I had 3.3cc in it, but also thought that I could eat too much.. So finally after a small weight gain in a fortnight, I got the doc to check my millage, and it was empty.. so she used a thicker gel like sollution to fill me this time, and it seems to have worked.. Sometimes there can be a tiny leak that can be repaired by the thicker gel fill... Perhaps ask your doc about it.. Good Luck.. xx Nene

Me and my oldest son..I look like a basketball in that jersey ;p

But you did well to get up and get out there.. I would have just avoided this kind of event prior to being banded.. You didnt let your boy down, and become a part of it.. Thats something to be proud of..Nene xx
  7. ok, My band is a 10cm band which means that it can hold not a whole lot more than 4-5 mls in it.. You should call your surgeon and find out more about your band. It could be handy to know..

And yes, the best and greatest thing about the band and eating less, its amazing just how little food we need to survive, and makes me realise just how much I used to over eat..

    Nene xx

  8. Hi Sarah,

Thank for writting, it was only by chance that I noticed that you private messaged me, am still getting used to this site.. I dont come on here much.. I am doing ok. I have droped about 24kgs since being banded on 29th jan 09. I really should have lost more, but there has been a bit of a hiccup because it was discovered last week that I have had no fill when there should have been 3mls in there.. Sooo, I go back in a week to see if the new thicker solution that she put in has all stayed in.. Hopefully so..

In any case, if you want to catch up, or check out my blog, please feel free.. also my email is nenesalifu@hotmail.com

    How are things for you??

    Nene xx

    DR Blair Bowden

Hi there, I cant praise Dr Blair Bowden enough.. he is by far a fantastic surgeon/dr... He did my band in January 2009, and I am so happy that I chose him.. After just the first meeting, I knew that he was the surgeon for me, even though he is a bit more expensive than other brisbane surgeons.. Good Luck, I hope this helps..Any questions, send me a message, I will gladly help..

    cost of surgery

Hi there, I am not covered by insurance and I went through Dr Balir Bowden at the Wesley Private Hospital in Brisbane.. It cost $19000 all up, but you do get a bit back from medicare, and you can also claim it at tax time.. I think you get 20c back out of every dollar you spent.. There are some surgeons who will operate in a public hospital, which will cost let..I dont regret it one bit.. It was worth every cent.
  11. Hi there Vanessa, thanks for writting, I am sorry for the delay in my reply, but I never realised that I had a message waiting for me. First let me say congratulations on being banded, it is a big step full of emotional roller coastering.. Some days you may love the bad, and others, you will wish you never got it.. However, I will openly admit, that although I have a long way to go and a lot more weight to lose, I could never have lost what I have already without the help of the band.. I am thinking that by now, you may possibly have finished your mushy phase.. I can be contacted on nenesalifu@hotmail.com which is easier for me to get your messages, and I will respond much quicker, or you can stop by my blog, where you can also read more about me, and my trials and tribulations of my band..

I look forward to reading from you..

    Thanks for writting..

  12. I myself dont care if my husband looks at the stuff.. at the end of the day, it is me that he is married to and goes to bed with. My husband and I are open about this, as I feel it is better to know what they are up to and looking at, than not knowing, and have them sneak around to have a look, or even do something worse. I know that this is not for everyone, but it works for me, and I am confident in knowing that it is just pictures. They aren't going to jump out of the screen and on top of him. HOWEVER, I WOULD have a problem if my husband was receiving provocative pictures from chatting with women online. That goes beyond what I would put up with. I am not saying that you should let this slide, but you both seriously need to have a good talk or couseling session. Talk to him about how it makes you feel, and perhaps what you would be comfortable with. I wish you luck.
  13. Hi there, I have a blog that you are welcome to read.. I have found that since being banded, I find reading of others experiences, inspirational.. www.nenesband.blogspot.com although I think i have the link on my signature too..

when is it ok to have sex?

I was set to go again, 2 weeks after my surgery.. Everyone is different (I guess I'm just highly sexed..lol), and only you will know when you are ready.. You can try many different positions... just be a little experimental.. And, intercourse isnt the only form of sexual intimacy..
  17. Hi everyone, I am a 29 year old mother of 2 children that has just been banded, 1 week ago today. So far I have had mixed feeling about it, but that has just been because of the discomfort. Now that is clearing up and I am seeing the weight come off (I know, already).. it is becoming all worth while. I started at 146.6 kgs (323lb), that was my weigh in before I started the Optifast diet, 2 weeks prior to surgery, so yesterday I went to weigh myself and discovered that I am already down to 132.9kg (292lb). I was shocked that I have dropped o much already. I was banded by Dr. Blair Bowden and the Wesley Private Hospital, in Brisbane. He was highly recomended and more expensive that other specialists in the area ( i was not covered by private health insurance), but I am very happy with my choice. I look forward to getting to make some new friends here, and learn more about the journey that I have ahead of me. oxox Nene www.nenesjourney.blogspot.com
  18. Hi there, thanks for your messages, I will give you a quick run down about my weight situation.. I was banded 29th Jan, and weighed 146.6kg on the day I started Optifast.. by the way is a horrible tasting drink.. however in that fortnight, I lost around 8kg. Up to today, 3.5 weeks post band, I have a total loss of 16.6kg. I now weigh 130kg. I am 5'8 in height, and have been told that I hold my weight well, but I never have felt like I do.. I have gone from wearing a tight sz 26, to now wearing and fitting into a sz 22. It feels fantastic. Now for the nitty gritting operation after pain stuff... I am not going to lie and say it doesnt hurt, and feel uncomfortable from the moment you wake in recovery till about the end of the first week.. But from there on, it gets so much better.. I now, dont even feel like I have a band in, apart from the much much smaller meals that I eat. Tomorrow is my last day of soft foods, but I'll admit, I have been munching of crackers in this time, just gotta make sure that I mush them right up in my mouth.. I know that I will never regret this decission. It already is showing signs of a huge improvement in my life, not only physically, but emotionally. MISSFLINTSTON 76.... Who is doing your band?? Where will you have it done?? Some surgeons operate out of different hospitals. Are you living in Brisbane or travelling here to get it?? Ohh, I noticed you joined my blog as a follower.. I was having a few problems with that page, so I have transfered it to... www.nenesband.blogspot.com drop me a comment some time there if you like.. I wish you the best of luck.. HALLY.... I hope my little speech above explains some about me. Thank you for the congrats on my weight loss.. I do have a long way to go, and the end seems so far, but this is the one thing in my life that I will never regret. It is good that your hubby is taking the week off.. I didnt have that luxury, but it sure would have been good.. But I still had alot of support from him when we got home each day.. My kids are 3 and 8. How old are yours? As far as the pain issue.. I actually read a blog just before going in for banding that read " I woke in theatre, feeling like I had been stabbed in the stomach and sucker punched up under my ribs".... well I can honestly say.. thats kind of how I felt. BUT I do stress that everyone is different. I made a friend on the day of being banded with another lady who was getting hers done.. You might like to read her blog, about how she felt, as she did quite well to go into detail of how she coped with recovery.. her blog is www.misspiggychronicles.blogspot.com and mine is www.nenesband.blogspot.com take a look, and I hope this helps.. If either of you want to contact me, you can also email me if it is easier.. nenesalifu@hotmail.com It does help to have someone who has been through it. Best of luck..
  19. Hi Alatina, thankyou for responding. I would be happy to meet up with you when you are over here. How has the band worked for you so far? We'll deffinately keep in touch..
