  2. I was on business travel all last week and I tell you, I LIVED on Wendy's chili. Each day I had a small chili for lunch with a packet of their low fat sour cream mixed in. I am 5 weeks post op and have not had a fill yet; it went down easy. Sometimes I ate half and returned to the left over portion an hour or or so later. Other times I ate the whole thing within 10-15 minutes. No problems with the band and I was very satisfied after eating. Of course, I skipped the crackers.

Is it a slipped band or what?

Forgot to add the pain is my upper middle back; like between my shoulder blades.

    Portions Before 1st Fill

I am going on 5 weeks post op and have always felt restriction. I am going to prolong the fill as long as possible. I can get through a small wendy's chili but then that's it. Last night I had a Lean Cuisine ravioli dinner and left over 3 ravioli's. Everyone is different. Also, except for the ravioli last night, have been staying away from all carbs; no oatmeal, farina, mashed potatoes. And I have been sticking with decaf tea/coffee. I do believe that makes a huge impact on appetite control. Good Luck! Forgot to add that since surgery have lost 22 lbs.
  5. I felt the same as you and did not want my business the talk of the office or want the extra scrutiny. I used my vacation days for surgery and told everyone I was having knee surgery. Also, I work from home frequently as well so have stayed out of sight since the surgery. It is your business and your choice; there is no right or wrong.

    Post Op day 1 question

The first few days I could barely manage to pass gass and now, I haven't stopped :-) I am still a little bloated and gassy!
  7. While I am raving I have no appetite, these last few days I have been dealing with nausea on and off. I don't think I am getting enough water and protein in, am on mushy stage and still sticking with soups and yogurt (although I did try a bit of a potato last night). Last night in particular, I had the shakes and shivers like I had the flu or something. Am noticing too a little discomfort in my lower stomach....my doc won't be in until tomorrow but wondering if anyone has had similar experiences at this stage post op? My DH thinks the nausea is because I am not getting enough nutrition. Honestly, I felt better last week than I do this week.

2 weeks post op and nausea

Peggy how are you getting in all that protein if I may ask? Today so far I had 34g in a protein shake, 5 from my yogurt and 8 from my cottage cheese. I have no appetite and although am on mushy stage I am still eating 'pureed' foods. Did your stomach have to adjust as you introduced new foods after so many weeks on clear/liquid,etc? I am trying hard today to get all my water in as well. Just cant understand while I feel so lousy.

    PCOS and Lap Band

I have PCOS and had 6 failed IUI cycles with clomid and injectables. Banded two weeks ago and believe it or not, I ovulated this week. I normally go 2-3 months between cycles and just finished a cycle 2 days before surgery. Needless to day I am very optimistic that we will conceive this year once I get more weight off and my hormones go back to normal! Feel free to email me and good luck!
  10. Congrats! I am hoping for the same results when i see my surgeon again early next month! Spread some of that lap band luck my way too!:blushing:

    6 days out and nervous

I am the opposite; banded 2 weeks ago today and I barely have an appetite. Today all I had was a 4oz small curd cottage cheese with applesauce and for dinner a few teaspoons of a pureed bean soup I made. Need to have shake as I have no way had my required protein intake today. I am enjoying the 'not hungry' feeling as in the past could win any eating competition I am enbarassed to say!
  12. Hi all, Ok- so I am not sure if this is still the 'honeymoon phase' I've read about, or the band, or just psychosomatic, but I have no appetite. Keep in mind I am a food addict and could finish two plates of food and keep going normally; whether I was hungry or not. I have been cooking for the family and still sticking to my pureed stage (yogurt, pudding soup) until I see the nutritionist tomorrow and get the ok for the mushie stage. I feel like I have gone from one extreme to the other, it's driving DH crazy and now he is on food patrol with me constantly trying to get me to eat something. On top of it all, I wrote in a previous post, I lost my 'taste' for coffee. Believe me, I am not complaining about these thinngs; just never expected it I guess. Not having an appetite is great; I have 175 pounds to lose but just wondering if this is normal and how long will it last. I failed on every diet known to man because I have no willpower or self control and always felt ravenous. I think the psychological part, knowing I have this device inside that if I overeat will NOT produce a pleasant outcome (PB, Vomit) I think that in itself was the trigger I needed to stop and think before I take a next bite. I just find it so bizarre how I am struggling to get through a 6oz yogurt, lol. How are all the new banders doing with appetite?
  13. I was banded Feb 3rd- so far so good! Here's to the February bandsters, quick recovery and success!!

2 weeks post op and no appetite

I guess I am going to enjoy this ride while it lasts then! Today all I had was a 6oz yogurt and a Gerbers sweet potato baby food, 1 3.5 ounce serving. Marmite Crumpet; love your name- my husband is from Uk and I LOVE marmite and butter on toast or better yet; crusty bread! Wonder when I will ever have that again!
  15. Linda, you are NOT alone. I felt the same way; pre op and post op. I remember the first thing I thought when I came to after the surgery was how much I already regretted it and hating myself for not trying once more to REALLY stick to a diet. I am 13 days post op and feeling so much better, so much more confident by the day about my food choices and the band. I still get paranoid from time to time thinking thoughts of what if it slips and what if this or that; and then I try to dismiss them just as quickly and just take it one day at a time. Give yourself a chance to heal, work with the band, follow the post op diet and you will be ok .
  16. Curious if anyone is feeling like me regarding coffee. Up until my surgery last week, I would have about 3-4 BIG cups of coffee every day. I mean, you do not want to talk to me in the a.m. unless I have had a cup. Now post op; tried to have some decaf and I just don't have the taste for it anymore. It just simply doesn't taste the same and have been drinking decaf tetley's black tea with skim plus and splenda. I never EVER thought my love affair wih coffee would be affected. Is this normal and has anyone else experienced this or another food/beverage aversion post op?? Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are going to miss me!

    Just got banded yesterday

I am 7 days post op and didn't start feeling better until Sunday. Take it easy; yes you have to walk but when you have had enough, sit down. On Saturday I went to the mall to walk around and looking at the spring cloothes definitely took my mind off things (and motivated me!); I just walked slow and went home after an hour. Now day 7 I am cooking for the family, dressing myself; just still can't bend and and sleep on my side. But compared to 1st day post op I feel fab! Every day you WILL feel better, I promise! As far as gas pains; it felt like I have 1000 bricks on my chest; I was in agony the whole time in the hospital. Make sure you are breathing in that aspirometer thingy they sent you home with and take those Gas x Strips, vital! I thought food (cooking and grocery shopping) would kill me since I am still on liquids but it's been therapeutic in a sense, I still get to be around the thing I love, and touch and smeel just cant eat. And I am a great cook! Stay strong, it's OVER, you did it !!!!

Sorry Juicy; I forgot to mention the brand for the shakes at Costco; it's 'Premier'. In a red case, they are already prepared, not a powder mix. Today is my first day on 'puree' was Clear liquids until now. Today so far I had: 2 cups decaf black tea with skim plus 1 sf/ff Jello 1 Premier proetin shake working through a 240z bottle of flavored Water Where the heck did my appetite go???? :-)

Jimmielou, it's ketosis causing that. Oncebody hits that state, a side effect is that dry pasty mouth taste.

    Serious second thoughts

I can empathize with you. I had serious, I mean serious second thoughts before my surgery this past week. I was terrified of surgery, having never had one before, and very concerned (still am to an extent) of a device being inside me and all the risks of slippage, etc. I was feeling disgust with myself that I had to do something as extreme as weight loss surgery because of my love/hate affair with food. I cried on my hubbie's shoulder and he stood tall and kept encouraging me to do it. I am still shocked I went through with it and have been feeling stronger each day. I guess what helped is that my sis's 70 year old mother in law had it done the day before me so if she was comfortable with the surgery risk at her age then I would be too. Now I am on the 'other side' and still a newbie. Graduating to pureed stage today, already lost some weight. My BMI was 63 going into surgery so I am not too far off from you. I can tell you that for the last 2 years my weight had taken over my life making me a recluse, not wanting to travel to work conferences, go on vacation, nothing. All I saw when I looked in the mirror was this fat suit that I just wanted to unzip but I was so powerless. I realized my food addiction this year and hope that with the help of the restriction (the band) and the FA 12 steps (no flour/sugar) I am going to beat this! In my mind I am trying to program myself into thinking I had the bypass so that also makes me stay away from sugar. I chose band over bypass because I am 37 and we would like to start a family soon...I don't want to wait 2 years as they suggest with the bypass. You have to decide what is right for you regarding this surgery. My only advice is if you are having second thoughts because of the procedure itself, do not. NO ONE was a bigger chicken than me, I cried all the way into the OR I was so scared and here I am back at home. It was a leap of faith! Good luck whatever you decide!

    Pre-Op Bucket LIst

I had surgery 2/3/09; if I could do a final tastin I would have had: - Big juicy fresh steak burrito - a slice of good ol' NY pizza - tostitos and salsa - bagel with cream cheese and lox - big chicken cesar salad - 320z diet coke with lemon Enjoy and have some for me!
  23. I started my process for surgical clearance in June 2008; weighing 337. During the 6 month process I gained and my highest was 342; I admit I was on a final tour of my fave foods. I had surgery 2/3/09 and day of weighed in at 335. My first weigh in and post op app't is 2/11/09. My goal is to be at 280 by June. Good luck with your surgery!

    Help!!

Hi Jax Julie- glad you slept and are feeling better. I had a bad time with nausea too this week (banded on Feb 3rd) but after 2 night stay in hospital I have been ok. Diahrea too- Dr. said to expect it as with the IV fluids and the liquid for the upper GI series, it causes that. Nutritionist too has me on clear liquids until tomorrow; most important thing right now is hydration. I have been drinking gatorade with no problems; try sipping that so you can get electrolytes in. Also, herbal tea has been a lifesaver! You will be ok...

    Anyone banded Feb 3, 2009

Hi Feb 3rd Banders, I was banded in Brooklyn , NY by Dr. Ferzli. I stayed 2 nights in hospital as my banding was bit more difficult due to extra fatty liver. The nutritionist in his office said it wasnt necessary to do the 2 week pre op shakes and to just eat low fat diet, which is what I did. Feeling better each day; first day out of post op was brutal with the gas pains in my chest. No pain though; just sore. Unlike most of you I am on clear liquids until tomorrow then I can start protein shakes, which right about now sounds as good as a slice of pizza! I still can't believe I am on the 'other side' and in 'banders hell', I was so scared to go through with it being my first surgery experience. Good luck to us all!
