i need help with not drinking with meals
Jill10191130 replied to armywife2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am the same type of person as you. Preband when eating out I would drink 3 - 4 glasses of beverage during a meal. So this has been a difficult change for me as well. I still struggle with it but I am getting better. I've found it best to not even have a drink near me during the meal. So I won't even be tempted. If I do have one near me, I just sip at it. Just enough to wet my mouth. It seems to help with the unnaturalness of it. I saw someone on this board post that hey did this and it has helped me a lot. -
My surgeon said it was a no-no for life. I think his reasoning was that he extra air can cause stretching of the pouch. I haven't used one since surgery. I'm curious to see what others think about this as well.

Jill10191130 replied to iwalktheline's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 11th of Feb. I was the same way. I thought I would starve to death!!!! It does get better when you can start on softs though, well it did for me. I'm still hungry sometimes but it is not nearly as bad as when I was on liquids. -
Regular water vs. crystal light
Jill10191130 replied to mjg12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was a soft drink addict. My drug of choice was Diet Mt Dew. I LOVED it!!!!!! Anyway, I did the same thing preop. I started adding the drink mixes. Now I find that 3 weeks postop that I'm craving more pure water. So now it is about half/half mix of drink mixes and water. The way I see it is whatever gets you off of soft drinks is a good thing being that we can't have the carbonation. I think eventually that I will be pretty much all pure water. -

Vitamin D deficiency & weight lost
Jill10191130 replied to Aries32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's very interesting. I also had a Vitamin D deficiency according to my surgeon. He ran a bunch of lab work before surgery. I didn't know it was linked to slow weight loss though. He just told me that a daily multivitamin should take care of it. -

Were you hungry in the 1st week postop?
Jill10191130 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering if anyone else was starving on the liquid postop stage. I'm on full liquids and am 5 days postop. I had absolutely no appetite at all for the first few days and no suddenly I'm ravenous. I'm so hungry. I keep reading threads about new postops not being hungry and I'm just wondering if I'm the only one that is. I can't wait until I can eat again. I mean my stomach is growling. I have 3 cc's in a 14 cc band that was put in at the time of surgery. Will this get better once I get some solids or not until I get proper restriction? -
Thinking of surgery? Scared? Read my story....

That was awesome. As someone who is 1 week postop and starving, I really needed that. Thank you. -
6 days out and nervous
Jill10191130 replied to avanderhoof's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, you're not alone. I was banded on the 11th and I am also starving. It doesn't seem as bad in the morning but the afternoon is terrible. I'm hoping that once we start some kind of solids that it will get better. I have an appointment on Thursday and I'm hoping that he will go ahead and advance me to pureeds. I'm like you though, I 'm worried that it will always feel this way. -
Just Banded and can't get protein down
Jill10191130 replied to YouChutUp's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on the 11th and am having a difficult time with this as well. I am on full liquids though. I bought some chocolate flavored whey protein and have been making shakes daily. I have a diffiucult time drinking all of them. I really need two a day to meet my clinic's requirement for the first 2 weeks post surgery. I'm trying though. I just ordered the Unjury unflavored protein powder today. I'm hoping that it helps. GL -
What does restriction feel like??
Jill10191130 replied to shelley2b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good question. I'm curious about this as well. When you say that you are unable to eat anymore, Alice, does that mean that you are not hungry anymore or that you just physically can't eat anymore or you will throw up. Just wondering if the hunger goes away with the proper restriction. -
Can't believe I'm posting this, but this is mine on my 4th day post op. Please ignore all the stretch marks.

Fabulous February Bandsters Unite!
Jill10191130 replied to tdteach99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 2/11. I've done okay but the last day or so, I've been starving. I really didn't have any appetite at all up until that point and now I'm ravenous all of a sudden. I can't wait to start pureed foods. I go back for a 1 week follow up on Thursday. As far as pain, it's pretty much better. Still a little bit of discomfort at the port site but nothing like it was. I was suprised at how much pain I had. It was much more than I expected. Just glad it's getting better. -
Feb 10th bandsters - How's it going
Jill10191130 replied to peachwood's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was a Febuary 11th bandster. My experience was okay. Maybe i'm just a baby, but it was more painful that I expected. I had a lot of pain at the port site but it is getting better daily. I'm also starting to get really hungry now. I can't wait to see my doctor so that maybe I can be advanced to pureed. -
cream low fat soups are on my full liquid list.
