scootie got a reaction from tfarr in Stretching the sleeve
I DID have a friend who died from bypass (not sleeve). He was 488 lbs. He died a week after bypass. He could NOT stop eating. His stomach ruptured and he died. I work at a hospital. A co-worker told me that a man had died on the previous shift because of the same scenario. Our heads tell us what to do. It's NOT a simple formula ( don't eat = lose weight). It's biologically and psychologically complex. It's so sad that WE are demonized and shamed to the extent that we are.

scootie got a reaction from tfarr in So full of post-op questions :) Is it normal not to reach your protein goals 5 days post op?
Tfarr...all of the Protein Shakes were making me very nauseuas and the powders made me vomit. My Dr was recommending the milk as an alternate for me because I can drink milk all day long! He told me the anecdote about the nutritionist who preferred plain old milk to Protein shakes/powders. It was a simply a short story that was very appropriate for my situation. I think that when I get into the next stage of eating (I'm 7 days post op) I can very easily round out my protein with food besides shakes/powders.

scootie got a reaction from Amina in So full of post-op questions :) Is it normal not to reach your protein goals 5 days post op?
My Dr told me that he had just gone to a seminar from a leading sport teams nutritionist. She STRONGLY encourages her athletes to drink/use skim or lowfat milk instead of Protein Shakes. She said that the Protein in 1 cup of milk would be 100% utilized, whereas a great deal of protein from shakes/powders is NOT utilized or available for the body to process. SO... He told me he's ok with me drinking 1% milk! Yea! I like milk

scootie reacted to HawaiianTexan in Pain
@@scootie my 36 hours I was a mess too. My pain was only a 4, but my nausea was an 8. I couldn't stay up for more than 5 mins I made myself keep going back to sleep because being up sucked. Then boom I finally woke up feeling 100xs better my surgeon said all the anesthesia finally cleared my system. I started taking walks alone and so on. I barely requested pain meds from the nurse that night. Anyhow yes it totally gets better!
