1. deedee16117,

I had to look at your post a couple times. For a minute there I thought I wrote the message. I am having trouble eating lots of things, MAJOR PAIN!! I have even had some pain with oatmeal. Usually the first thing I eat of the day causes some discomfort! Like you, I also can eat the chips and salsa at the Mexican restaurant with no problems. Weird. I finally called the doctor and have an appt dec 30th. I don't want them to unfil any but don't want all the pain either. Of course chocolate and ice cream cause no pain at all. Can't eat eggs, steak, prime rib, chicken breast, actually can't eat most chicken, and turkey. I tried a bite of Peanut Butter and bread, whoooooo thought I was going to die!!

  2. I have food get stuck on a regular basis. Believe me, you will know for sure when it happens. There will be no mistaking it. In the mornings I can barely eat anything, not even oatmeal without some pain. Most foods I have to cut into tiny pieces and chew chew chew and quite often still have severe pain. I do not know if this is normal or not. I am going on a cruise the end of Jan and am concerned that I will not be able to eat anything. I am going to try to take instant oatmeal in my suitcase for emergency foods.

I am in pain but still not loosing any weight.

  3. I have now had 3 fills. I do feel some restriction. One thing I am experiencing now is PAIN. Most things cause so much pain when I try to eat them even chewing for ever. In the mornings almost everything I eat is painful. I even have some problems with oatmeal. Because of the pain I have began avoided lots of foods, and now drink smoothies and can eat Soup and ice cream. I know I shouldn't eat ice cream but sometimes I am so hungry but don't want to go thru the pain I get with other foods.

    Is this normal?

I am not loosing any weight! I am so discouraged. So disappointed in myself.

To date I have only lost 24 pounds, this includes the pre-surgery diet.

  4. I was banded June 28th. Not much of a success story at this time. Including pre-op diet I lost a total of 29 pounds. After Thanksgiving I gained 5 back and now am at 24 pounds total loss.:blushing: I must admit I didn't really start adding exercise until about a month ago. At work twice a day on my breaks I walk 6 flights of stairs. After work I work about 15 minutes on a small trampoline jogger. I am starting to feel that I have more energy but not much weight loss. Reading some of the posts on this site, people seem to really push Protein. I haven't really added any protein to my diet for a couple months, worried about the extra calories from the protein mix. I read on one of the posts that the protein is necessary for the weight loss??? Does protein enhance the weight loss? Shouldn't I get enough protein from cheese, fish, etc?

  5. :)

I have not been drinking any Protein Drinks for a couple months now. I thought I would get enough Protein from fish and cheese, etc. I was concerned the protein drinks would add weight. You are saying it assists in weight loss?? Maybe that is my problem. Or at least one of them. How does the protein help loose weight? I guess I had the protein part all wrong.

  6. I have had the same issues. I was banded in June 08. Including the pre-diet I lost a total of 29 pounds. I gained 5 back so I at this point I have lost 24 pounds.

I have had 3 fills. Most of the time I do not ever get that full feeling, but I do eat less than I used to. There are several kinds of foods I cannot eat, chicken, turkey, some breads, eggs, and steak. Some days I can barely eat oatmeal without doubling over in pain. I really did not exercise much until about a month ago. I try to make up 6 flights of stairs once to twice a day and using one of those small jogger trampolines. I have to make this work. I believe my issue was not exercising; I am really working on that now. STRUGGLING to get smaller!!

  7. was banded June 28th. Counting the pre-surgery diet I have lost a total of 24 pounds and nearly all of that was the pre-surgery diet. In the beginning I was NOT doing any extra walking or exercising. For about a month now I have added 2-3 times up six flights of stairs and recently some jogging on one of those small trampoline joggers. Nothing happening yet.

It seems recently some days I can eat ok, minus of course the foods that no longer agree with me, (chicken, steak, eggs, tortillas, bread), other days I cannot even eat oatmeal without vomiting. Those days everything I eat is so painful if I am not vomiting , I am praying to.

I am so disappointed with myself.

Today so far I have had low calorie oatmel, skinny vanilla latte, slimfast optima bar.

  9. I was a member and could no longer get my password to work. I tried to reset password for several weeks. Never got email with new password, so I have created new profile.

Has anyone else had this experience. I could not find a way to get to a help desk or assistance of any kind.

I didn't loose much weight during my several weeks away from here, so I guess this is my opportunity to start over new.

  10. I really thought I would not feel the hunger, but I did and I do. My stomach growls most of the day. I feel starved. I do not feel the fullness or restriction I thought I would feel. I probably could almost eat like I used to. I thought the band made the pouch smaller resulting in a full feeling after smaller portions. I just had my first fill about 3 weeks ago. The only restriction I feel was when I tried to eat a small piece of chicken. Wow, that was painful! I do get a full feeling a little sooner than I would have before, but only a little.

I know I need to get my tail in gear and walk more, and get more exercise, but what am I doing wrong with my meals? I have read some posting on here that say they lost their appetite so much that they forget to eat. I can tell you that will not happen with me!

The good news is when we go out to eat, it takes me so long to eat, that I leave with most of my meal still on my plate. That definitely reduces the calorie intake.

  11. Yes, that is the restriction.

I just had my first fill yesterday and I am not feeling any restriction.

Once before I had my band filled I tried a piece of bread and Peanut Butter. It got stuck! OMG that was very painful!! Thank goodness it decided to come back up. Now I am afraid of peanut butter. I have had some bread and it went down ok. Honestly, I think what I did was not chew it very well. I was starving and made a piece of bread and peanut butter and took a couple bites not even concentrating on chewing. It probably was the chewing issue but I am still afraid to try peanut butter again.

  12. At my 2 weeks post op, I had lost 10 pounds. At 5 1/2 weeks post op I had put back on 1 pound. So to date, based on my weight the day of surgery thru Yesterday (5 1/2 weeks post op), I have lost a total of 9 pounds. My insurance company required me to go on a diet before the surgery. From the time I started my diet until now I have only lost 28 pounds. Yesterday was my first fill. I am a little concerned because I do not fill restricted at all. I will give it a few days before I call the doctor.

I regress. Anyway, I would definitely not worry about weight loss at your point. It is pretty normal.

  13. I work strange hours. I usually don't eat Breakfast. I drink an Instant Breakfast or Protein smoothie on the way to work or take it with me and drink it at work as I start my day.

I used to get a bagel or donut on the way to work and depending on what time of day it is, I may have stopped for a burger.

Now it is Instant Breakfast or Smoothie. I always have trouble crawling out of bed so I do not like to get up any earlier than necessary. I need some ideas on quick things for breakfast. Also I usually eat my lunch at my desk while I work. So far I am doing well with lunches. I bring low cal microwave meals, instant cream of wheat or Soup. I would like some suggestions.

I am looking for some ideas for quick simple and of course healthy meals.

I tried a little piece of break with Peanut Butter one day. Bad move!! Wow was that painful. Won't do that again!

I can see where it would be very easy to start eating the wrong foods and I want to avoid eating the wrong foods.

  14. Dear noahsmomm

Now I am 19 days after my surgery. Yesterday I went to the doctor. I have lost 11 pounds now. I guess I am happy with that. I am so worried I will gain weight before I get it filled. I don't get it filled until August 17th. My appetite has barely diminished at all. I am now eating soft foods. One morning I tried a piece of bread with Peanut Butter. That is the first time I was sure I had the lap band. Holy cow did that hurt! I wasn't sure if it was the peanut butter or the bread, but now looking back I think I did not chew it very well. After what seemed to be a long time the bread and peanut butter came back up. Thank goodness. I was sore after that for the rest of the day. A lot of the things I am eating are carbs, which kind of worries me.

I have been seriously craving chips and salsa! I am too afraid to try that one. I did make and omelet and put some salsa on it. Yum.

One of my favs it a smoothie made with Protein mix, sliced frozen strawberries, 1/2 of a banana, and a little of whatever kind of yogurt I have in the fridge. Blend about 20 seconds and YUM!

  15. You will do fine on Friday!! I was worried I would go in and he would tell me I was no longer a candidate for the lap-band surgery. I was just banded on June 27th. It turned out good and I had lost 15 pounds. You will be fine too! Good luck. Surgery was a breeze. The first day was pretty sore but I was pretty good after that. The pre-op liquid diet was really, really rough. I did cheat one day and had a burrito. I was on full liquid diet post-op. About 4 days out I felt I was starving, I called the dietician, she said if I needed I could add some mushies, mashed potatoes, refried Beans and cheese. Whew, that was good. Never knew mashed potatoes tasted so good! I mixed a little cheese in them and did not add any butter, gravy or sour cream.

I don't feel like I am starving anymore. Today I had two eggs. Most do not get a fill when they put the band on. They give the stomach time to heel and the swelling from surgery go down. I just had my first post-op check up. He said I lost 5 pounds. I was amazed; I thought I only lost one or two pounds. August 12 I go in to get first fill. Can't wait, hopefully will really start loosing weight then.

  16. Hello. My name is Elaine. I live in Nebraska. Dr White in Omaha did my band. I was just banded on June 27th. No weight loss yet to speak of. Maybe two pounds tops. I have been very hungry. I have moved on to mashed potatoes.

I attempted to get the bypass three times and could not get insurance to approve it. First time too healthy, second time they changed and do not cover any weight related issues. Third time, they said I do not have the support I need to do the surgery. My husband is totally against it. Finally I got approval for the lap band. I have been working on this now for 6 years. It took me 7 months to get approved for the lap band. I am ok with that. I believe it may have been a little Devine intervention; maybe the bypass was not going to work for me.
