    Why are YOU Fat?

My reason for being so obese was also portion control. Or should I say lack of it. I consumed un-real amounts of food whenever I would eat. We didn't have alot of money when I was growing up as a kid, but there was always food. I wasn't a "fat" kid at all. I didn't start putting on weight until I was in my early 30's. I am 6'2" and I never weighed more than 225 lbs. I started putting the tonnage on in my early 30's and let myself balloon up to 376 lbs. I hadn't been able to see what I weighed for 15 years plus. The scale in my family doctors office only went up to 350 lbs and I would peg the scale every time I stepped on it. On my initial vist to my wls surgeon they had me step on the scale and when those little red didital numbers read 376 lbs it was all I could do to hold the tears back. I just thought to myself, "What in the hell have you done to yourself?" It was a time in my life that I will never forget. I'm a little over two weeks out from my surgery and have lost a total of 55 lbs since that initial day at the doctors office. This decision that I made to get the band was the very best thing that I have ever done for myself. The surgery was a piece of cake. I pray and wish nothing but the best for YOU, all of my fellow band brothers and sisters. Merry Christmas.

    Hey Guys!!

I'm just a little over two weeks post op and I sure hope and pray that wild game is not hard to eat. I shot my deer this year ( four point mulie, western count) and still have elk and bison in the freezer from last year. Probably 90% or more of the red meat my family eats is wild game. Has been that way for years. That's the way it was for me growing up also. (I'm 52 yo now). Plus I've lost 55 lbs since I started the pre op diet up to now. I weighed 376 lbs at my initial appointment and I now weigh 321 lbs. I've only got another 90 lbs to lose. I'm telling you, this is the very best thing that I have ever done for myself. Finding this forum has also been a great help. Merry Christmas you bunch of yay whoos!!! I love this site!!:scared2::biggrin:

As far as meats after regular foods is bison ok?

My family hasn't eaten much beef for the last five years. We buy a bison every year and usually split it with a good friend of ours or one of our children. I also like to hunt and every year we have a deer in the freezer or an elk. Some years if i'm real fortunate we have both. Other than moose, bison is the best red meat that you can eat. You just can't go wrong with bison. Cook it just like you would any similar cut of beef and don't over cook it.
  5. Hey Guys and Gals, I'm two weeks out now (banded on 12/04) and I'm feeling pretty good!!! I still have two weeks to go on clear liquids and protein drinks and then I can start some soft foods. I will be real glad when I can have the soft foods but it really isn't too bad now as far as hunger goes. The first week was pure hell and now it has just been a mind set with me as far as my hunger goes. I just figure that it's what my doctor wants me to do and he's the expert. The GREAT part is that from the start of my pre-op diet until now, I've lost 55 LBS!!! I'm stoked!!! Here is wishing everyone gods blessings and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Spike.

    Suicidal thoughts with obesity?

Yes. I had thought's many times. The thing that held me back was my faith in the LORD. His word tells us that taking your own life is not an option. That and the fact that I am married to the most wonderful woman in the world. Also the three grown children and five grand children that I have, I thought that it would be the ultimate act in selfishinness if I was to do IT. I was sooooo miserable. But now i have much hope. I'm two weeks post surgery and 55+ lbs lighter. My whole outlook is different. I never did seek professional help. And now because of my dertimination and the "Band", I doubt that will ever need it.

    Destroy tissue around Band

That doctors statements would leave be to believe that he is pushing the sleeve and bypass surgeries over Band surgeries because he makes more $$$$ doing sleeves and bypasses. Sad, but there are people like that in every profession. I might be wrong, but isn't the Band the least expensive surgery out of the three?? Just a thought.
  8. I was banded on 12/4 by Dr. OH and I go in for my 1 week post op appt on Friday 12/12. I was wondering If I would still be on clear liquids and such after this appt still? Or will I be able to start drinking some protein again? For those of you that have been banded by DR. Oh, what did he have you do after 1 week post op. What did he let you eat and when?

Live in Kent. Gettin er done on Thursday!!!

I got home today. The surgery was yesterday. Everything went just fine. Dr. Oh also took out my Gall Bladder. I had a huge stone in it and it was also inflamed quite a bit. I actually feel pretty good. The worst part was getting rid of all the gas buildup in my shoulders and such:scared2:. It went away fairly quick and I attribute that to getting my ass up out of that hospital bed and doing quite a bit of walking up and down the halls of the floor that I was on.
