  1. I was taught in school that your poop should sink. If it sinks it means that you're getting enough fiber in your diet. If it doesn't sink you need to eat more fiber. Don't know for sure what the consistency is suppose to be though.

    Bloody stool?

You know I thought I might have had a bloody stool tonight, too but don't know for sure. It was very hard to tell if it was blood or not. It was in my stool and it was a pinkish color. I thought that maybe it was something I ate recently but not sure what other than maybe it was tomato sauce. I read everyone's advice to call the dr but I think I'm gonna wait and see what tomorrow brings. I just really don't wanna have to give my doc a stool sample for no reason you know. I also think the worst. I get that from my mom. It's not fun but I'm trying to be positive about it now that it was just something I ate. Sorry for the rambling. Bye now!
  3. It's spudgirl from Maui! Just though thought I'd say Hi and see if you wanted to be my friend. you seem pretty cool. Let me know what you think. Bye

  4. Quick ? for anyone who might know. I've been having some pain around the area where my port is. Also near on and around the incision area for the port. It's not red or anything like that so I don't think that it's infected but I don't know for sure. It just hurts. It hurts to twist a certain way or to bed over or touching it hurts. Does anybody know what could be causing this? I see my dr on Feb 4th but I'm wondering if I need to try and get in to see him sooner. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

    First Fills

So, I was suppose to get my first fill on the the 17th of Dec but my son got really sick the night before and so I wasn't able to get it done. Dang it!! But now I'm scheduled to see my Dr on Feb 4th and I'm hoping to get filled then if I can afford it. My ins doesn't pay for the fills so I have to come up with the money out of my own pocket. But, I know I definitely need a fill because I have no restriction at all. In fact, I can eat whatever I want whenever I want. Just as long as I eat slow and chew, chew, chew! I don't want to be able to eat like that. That's why I got the band in the first place. Gosh, I'm so frustrated! Anyways, hope to get the fill and stop eating so much!
  6. Hello. I was banded on Oct 30th, 2008 and have been struggling ever since. Especially since the holidays. I've really been screwing up a lot and not doing what I'm suppose to be. I would like someone that can help keep me motivated and help me to know that getting the lapband was worth it. I'm starting to think that I spent all of this money and had a major surgery for no reason. Please help!

    Fat stories

I've had a lot of embarassing things happen myself. The two that I remember the most are: Christmas '07 I went on a cruise with my husband and who was then almost 1yr old. We also went with my parents and their children that still live at home. There was a Water slide on the ship. I didn't go on it for the first few days because I didn't want everyone to see the fat lady going down the slide so I always had my husband take my son with him. Finally, one day my son kept saying to me "mommy" and pointing to the slide. So I gave in and decided to take him on it. I thought who cares what people think my son wants me to take him and that's what was important to me. Well, of course as soon as we start sliding down the slide I get stuck. There wasn't enough water running down the slide to push me down. The slide operator at the top kept telling me lay straight down on your back. That didn't work either. So I basically had to scoot myself down the whole way. Totally embarassing! I was more embarassed that my imediate family had to witness that then I was total strangers seeing me like that. The very next month I went to see my Dr and we decided that I should get a lap band. I'm so glad I did! One other thing that happened. We have some mushroom chairs with the metal legs on them. I sat in one to watch a movie with my husband and my brother happened to be over at the time and right when I sat down the chair just slowly collapsed under me. I bent one of the metal bars by sitting in it. Oh, that sucked!

    Why are YOU Fat?

Thank you, Kat. That's good news. I know that my band is working I just can't see it when I look at myself in the mirror yet. I can't wait for that day. I'm still fairly new to the whole band thing though so getting advice and tips from other people like you is really great. Thanks again and congrats on all of your weight loss!
  9. That's really great news! Congratulations! Keep up the good work!

    Why are YOU Fat?

I relate to that very much. When I was a kid my dad always said eat everything on your plate cause I don't go to work everyday to pay for that and you to waste it. Especially when we went out to eat that was a big deal. We always had to finish our food. Now please don't get me wrong I'm not blaming my weight problems on my dad it's just that he instilled something in me that I have a hard time giving up today. And when I first moved out of my parents house it was very hard sometimes to make ends meet and so I would go without food to have everything else. So to this day it's very hard for me to leave the table with food still sitting on my plate. I feel like I'm wasting it or that it's a waste of money if I don't eat it all.
  11. Hello. I'm still fairly new to the site but I was wondering if anybody out there could help me out. I was lap banded on Oct. 30th of this year. I did really good for the first little while and was losing a lot of weight. However, recently I've been struggling quite a bit. All I'm currently allowed to eat right now is protein, protein and more protein. So, according to my dietician I can have poultry (turkey, chkn), tuna, eggs, peanut butter, tofu. I'm pretty much getting sick of all of this stuff. But the hardest thing I'm struggling with right now is trying to feel full and not being able to eat carbs. Oh how I miss my carbs! What can I do to try and get over this? Another problem that just started happening is I'm only suppose to be eating 2oz of protein 3x a day and there is sometimes where I can get way more down than 2oz if I really wanted to. That's where the feeling hungry comes in. If I don't get full from the 2oz of food I feel hungry a lot sooner. Please, if there's anybody out there that can help me I'd appreciate it. I'm really, really struggling with all of this right now.
  12. Tricia, just wondering when you were banded and how long it took you to lose all of your weight. I started at 286lbs and I wanna be down to 145lbs. I wanna lose the weight as fast as I can so that I can have another baby. I see that you are pregnant and happy and I just wanna say congratulations and good luck with the new baby. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks

    food addiction

I believe that I have a food addiction. Especially now that I have a band and I can't eat like I used to. It's been incredibly difficult to deal with. I used to smoke until I got pregnant with my son which was almost 3yrs ago now and that was very difficult to quit. However, I believe that this is a lot harder to deal with than not smoking anymore. I feel like I go through withdrawals and everything. I'm surprised I'm not having night sweats and everything. Anyways, I just think that it's something that we all have to learn to deal with and hopefully as time goes by it'll get easier and easier for us to deal with. (please let it get easier and easier to deal with)
  14. carrie it sounds like our moms are totally the same. they should get together cause they'd probably be best friends. i was the same as you; totally skinny in high school and then when i was about 22 or 23 i started putting on the weight. she's been buggin me about it ever since. if i go to her house and they have cookies or something and i had one she was on my butt instantly about how that's the reason i'm fat. if i'd stop eating stuff like that i might lose some weight. 10 min later she's in the kitchen herself eating 2 of them. i used to drink diet soda all of the time and she told me if i'd stop drinking that that would probably help, too. yet the first thing she'd do when she'd wake up in the morning (and still does) is drive to the gas station and go get herself a diet coke. My mom was always heavy when I was in high school too. In fact she was her heaviest at that time in my life and I was the same way. Never once said she was fat and when she would say to me i'm so fat i would tell her that she wasn't and that she still looked good. what is it about our moms that would make them feel like they gotta treat us like crap because of our weight when they're the ones that are heavy too. It's sad cause they know exactly what we're going through yet they're mean to us about it.

    Hi, fellow thirty-somethings =)

Hello everyone! I just found this group for people in their thirties. I hope it starts getting a lot busier. I'm still fairly new to this site. I'll be 31 on Jan. 4th and I was banded on Oct. 30th, 2008. I can't wait to talk and hear from you all about everything. Good luck everyone out there!
  17. Sarah and Mrsace13 you're comments touched my heart. Isn't it awful how rude people can be. Mrsace I cannot believe people were as rude to you when you only weighed 180lbs. Like you said I would love to be that weight again. I'd feel skinny! Sarah as for your comment about who was the bigger bitch grandma's or mom's. I agree with that comment, too. My mom has been pretty hard on me since I started gaining weight, too. The sad thing is is my mom weighs almost 200lbs herself yet I'm the one with the weight problem. My mom has been heavy most of her life! My two little brothers are heavy, too and my mom really gives them a hard time also. Here's some comments my mom has made recently: I went in to see my doc 10 days after my surgery to see how I was doing and of course to see how much weight I had lost. I ended up losing 22lbs in 10 days! I was so excited I couldn't wait to call my parents and let them know. My dad was totally excited for me and my mom was just like hmmm. She says to me well it's about time it's going down instead of going up like it has been all this time. Well, then one day my brother is talking to her about how by this time next year he's going to be right around 190lbs like he was back in high school and she looks at him and says yeah right like that's ever gonna happen. I mean come on. She's not much of a motivation for any of us. And then she wonders why we get discouraged about our weight all the time. Anyways, enough about the depressing, rude stuff! We can get all of our weight off ladies and be healthy and enjoy the rest of our lives and rub it in everyone's faces that was ever rude to us about our weight.:girl_hug: Good luck to all you out there.
  18. I'm so sorry to hear of all the rude comments made to everyone from people that don't understand what it's like to be heavy. I have a few to add to the list, too. I used to work with a co-worker that probably weighs about 350lbs or so. While I worked with her I was pregnant. After I had my son I got back down to my before pregnancy weight of 220. But slowly and surely I started putting it all back on. Everytime I walked into the store where I used to work with her if she was there she would look at me and say "having another baby?" She knew I never was but she liked to rub it in. Must've made her feel better about herself. Another time I went into the store with my husband and she was working and she says to me again "having another baby?" I say you know i'm not I'm just gaining weight still. Then she looks at my hubby and says "it's ok you can tell us which one is bigger now" and he he says "um no I'm just gonna stay out of this ok" and she says "it's ok your wife can't beat you up when you tell us that she's the one that's bigger now cause I'll back you up"! Can you believe that? The heaviest I got before being banded was 286 and I promise you all that she seriously was 350lbs. But I was always the fat one when i was around her. I've had people come up to me all the time in my church to and ask me when I'm due. One lady asked when I was due and my almost then 1yr old was running around my legs. When my mom told my bishop I was going to be out of town for 2wks he said I thought she was pregnant. I've known the man for a year! Did he really think I was pregnant the whole time! Anyways, I can't wait until I've lost about 50lbs more and then I'm gonna go back into where I used to work and see what she has to tell me now. I can't wait to see what her reaction is going to be.

    party meatballs

They are pretty moist and tasty but i'm not sure how much fat. I just found the recipe from a crock pot recipe book and it doesn't list the nutritional info. sorry. they are good though.
  22. 1 can (16oz) jellied cranberry sauce 1/2 c barbecue sauce 1 egg white 1 pound 93% lean ground turkey 1 green onion, white and green parts, sliced 2 tsp grated orange peel 1 tsp reduced-sodium soy sauce 1/4 tsp black pepper 1/8 tsp ground red pepper (optional) Combine cranberry sauce and barbecue sauce in crock pot slow cooker. Cover; cook on high 20 to 30min or until cranberry sauce is melted and mixture is hot. Meanwhile, place egg white in medium bowl; beat lightly. Add turkey, green onion orange peel, soy sauce, black pepper and ground red pepper, if desired; mix until well blended. Shape into 24 meatballs. Spray large nonstick skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Add meatballs to skillet; cook over medium heat 8 to 10min or until meatballs are no longer pink in center, carefully turning occasionally to brown evenly. Add to heated sauce in crock pot slow cooker; stir gently to coat. Reduce heat to low. Cover; cook 3 hours. Transfer meatballs to serving plate; garnish, if desired. Serve with decorative appetizer picks. Makes 12 servings.

    struggling with food

I feel like I'm very restricted on what I can eat, too. I will be able to add fruits and vegetables to my diet on Dec. 8th. I'll also be able to add low fat or fat free dairy to help me give a little more variety with the protein. However, I'll only be able to add 1oz of fruit or vegetable per meal. So, in another week I'll be up to 3oz of food 3x per day. I'm hoping that will help with the hungry part. My next doctors appt. is on Dec. 17th and I'm hoping that I'll be able to have my first fill. I don't know how much longer I can go with being hungry all the time. I went into the surgery being told that that would not be a problem and so far it has been. Because it's been so hard I've made a lot of mistakes and haven't been sticking to my diet like I'm suppose to be. And when that happens it makes me feel like crap and then I wanna just eat more. It's just one big circle.
  24. Hello everyone! I know that I posted once before a couple of weeks ago. But I haven't been able to get back on since and I just want everyone to know that I'm new here to the site but I'm looking forward to getting to know a lot of you. I was lap banded on Oct. 30th, 2008. My doctor is Brandt Lapschies and I live in Hawaii. The day before my surgery I weighed in at 286lbs. I'm now currently at 257lbs. I can't believe how much I feel better already by only losing 29lbs! I say "only" losing however I'm totally excited in the fact that I've already lost that much weight! I've been struggling with my weight now for the last 8yrs and to have lost 29lbs is amazing. I probably haven't lost that much weight with all of the diets that I did combined. So, again, hello and I hope to get help from all of you and become friends with a lot of you.
  25. Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and just wanted to say hi and I'm hoping I'll be able to get some help. I had my lapband put on on 10/30/08. So far I have lost 23lbs which is so awesome! Lately though I've really been struggling with not being able to eat like I used to. My Dr told me that all I can have right now is protein. That's not to hard to deal with it's watching everyone else eat whatever they want when they want. It's hard to cook dinner for my husband and my 2yr old without wanting to take bites and tastes of it. If any of you out there have any advice for me please help. I have no one else to talk to about it.
