Hello.... I was also banded on 12/30. Today is my last day on clear liquids, then tomorrow I can start having Protein drinks and creamed Soups again....YAY....Never thought I'd be excited about that. Anyway, my recovery has been pretty good for the most part. I've had bouts of nausea, but never vomited. I've walked a lot and moved around my house a lot. I also took a 40 mile car ride to my moms house, got nauseus on the way over there, but was ok on the way back. Gas pains somewhat but not unbearable. I've been doing pretty good getting clear liquids down. Not bad! I've had up to 32oz a day, sipping pretty much all the time. I have pain on my port side, but just taking it easy. Cannot bend too well, which is annoying but have husband helping. I think I can actually take in more than I have been, but I'm taking it slow as to not over do it. I'm following my docs orders as closely as possible. Yesterday and today I felt bouts of weakness so I had a teaspoon of creamy Peanut Butter. I know I'm not supposed to but I did it slowly and was ok and it also made me feel much better.

    Hey Everyone

Hi Stephanie: You'll do great with the lap band. Today is my 2nd day out of surgery (12/30/08) and I'm doing really well. I have to say that the worse part is the liquid diet before surgery because you'll be feeling hungry. I did. I have to say I wasn't perfect on it and did cheat by having a few bites of food here and there and like 3 rolls of ham, but other than that I did great and surgery went very well. Right now, the only pain I feel is at port side and it feels like a pulling or stretching pain. When I'm stretched out laying down I feel just fine or if I'm leaning back I feel fine. Standing up hurts a little and sitting up on my own is uncomfortable, but it's not unbearable. I've been able to go up and down the stairs at home without trouble and walk around (slowly)..... Good luck wit your surgery, I'm happy I did it. I weighed myself today and I gained a couple pounds, go figure....But I think I'm bloated and swollen so I'm not too concerned. Right now I'm in healing mode.

    Banded...Day 2

Hello.... Today is my DAY 2 as well. Let me say that I feel I'm doing great. The only issues I have right now is standing up and getting up on my own, I can't bend much and that is frustrating. My experience at the hospital was great too. I woke up at 6am, at the hospital by 7:30am, they prepped me by taking a urine sample, then IV, a shot of Heparin, antibiotics, then they rolled me to the OR and they asked me to move myself from the gurnee to the OR table, I did that and that's all I remember. After surgery, they gave me a few sips of Water and a few ice chips, sat me down in a chair and then I was off to home and home by 1pm. Mostly, I've slept, but I've managed to go up and down the stairs at home just fine. Also, go from the bedroom to the family room and sit with my legs propped up. I've managed to have Jello and broth just fine without any incidents. I also had an ice pop yesterday. Tomorrow will be my last day of Clear liquids. Other than gas pain, standing and sitting up on my own, I'm doing great. Today I'll be showering and I'm sure that will make me feel much better.
  4. Hi.... It's my first day out as well. I take comfort in the fact I'm not the only one out there and this site really helps with any questions. I actually think I was better the same day after surgery than I am today, but I guess it varies. Yesterday I only had 11oz of Clear Liquids. Today I think I'm at almost 20 oz. I had 2 Soups (clear broth, chicken/beef) and 2 jellos. It takes me a while to get it down, but slowly its going and I don't feel bad....As soon as I feel pressure in my stomach I stop, take a break and continue on later. So how are you feeling? For me the worse part is getting up, sitting up or going to the bathroom (sitting on toilet). But it's not too bad. My bedroom is upstairs so I've been going up and down pretty good on my own. I do walk very slowly though, which is frustrating, but I'm doing it so I feel proud. I've taken some pain meds and that seems to help. I think what you might be feeling is pain from gas, I was really gassy yesterday, still some today, but not too bad! My hubby went to get some chinese food. I'll be having miso Soup. I am craving food, but not enough to want to eat it. I keep trying to concentrate on healing and making sure I'm healing at a good pace. Anyway, good luck and keep up the good work. You'll be ok.
  5. I was banded yesterday. After surgery I had clear chicken broth, 11 oz is what I could manage the entire day. Not too much pain, but its hard to bend or stand.... Not sure anyone else is experiencing this. Today I'm having jello....it is taking quite a while to get down though. Anyway, I'm happy overall, but resting. For the next 3 days my doc said to have clear broths, Jello, and popsicles. Then I can have cream soups for 10 days, then mushies.
  6. Hello Everyone on PREOP DIET..... My name is Yvette. WOW.....2 weeks? That is hard! I thought 7 days was hard for me! Well, This is day #4 for me and although I have not been perfect I've already lost 4 pounds. I'm excited about it and looking forward to my band on 12/30. I do want to mention for those of you who are curious as to what others are doing as far as what they eat or should I say drink. I'm not allowed any meals that aren't liquid. Breakfast - EAS Advantage Protein Drink or whey Protein shake, then a yogurt lunch - another protein shake, cream Soup, sometimes cream of chicken, tomato, or other cream based Soups, then I can have a Jello pudding. dinner - cream soup, then I can have jello, and if I want something later before bed and ice pop. I know it doesn't sound too exciting. Trust me, not having Christmas Eve dinner with my family (who is Cuban/Puerto Rican) was SUPER tough! I did survive though!!! Hope this gets better. Not having carbs is the hardest part for me!

    12.31.08

Hello.... Yes, I'm getting banded the day before 12/30/08. I'm very excited. This is day 4 of my liquid diet. Not too bad, but it was tough not having Christmas Eve dinner with my family. I had Soup instead! LOL!!! So far though I've lost 4 pounds and that's pretty good, about 1 pound per day! Anyway, good luck with your banding. I'm looking forward to mine, but a little anxious as we get closer!

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Hi....Good luck....I will definitely keep you and everyone else who is banding soon in my thoughts and prayers. My surgery is 12/30 and I'm so busy thinking of all the things I have left to do and prepare! Anyway, I'm excited for you and also think that this step does mark a significant change in my life and next year this time, I'll be the person I've always wanted to be....Healthy, excited, more energy, and proud of what I look like!!!!
  9. Hi Everyone: I'll be banded December 30th in Pembroke Pines, FL. I'm excited, anxious, and nervous all at the same time, but looking forward to it. My pre-op diet begins a few days before Christmas and although I won't be indulging in all the Christmas treats, I am trying to be positive and optimistic. I'm planning on taking my own Soup and popsicle for desert to Christmas Eve dinner. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it. Other than that, I've had a lot of different types of comments, mostly from family (cousins) and people in general about how it's a bad idea, but I don't care. I'm trying ot stay away from the negativity and go forward! Can't wait!!!:smile2:

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Hi All: My band date is 12/30/08. I'm very excited. So far I've done my first nutritional class. That was pretty interesting. This week I have my pre-op class then on the 18th my 2nd nutritional class. So far so good. I'm looking forward to my surgery date. Aside from that, I have blood work and an EKG to complete. Anyway, I wish everyone for December banding luck, especially FLORIDA PETE who will be banded in just a few days. Good luck!!!!! Can't wait to hear from you as you progress.

    What to tell work?

wow.....this is a dilemma, but I agree with what other folks are saying. If you do not want to share. Say it's a surgical procedure and leave it at that. Just prepare for the Quest to figure it out (by co-workers). They are so intrusive. Honestly!!! For me, I've been open to everyone in my office who asks as well as my family, friends, and church. Everyone knows! I don't care because for me, I just think about it as a journey. I don't care what others say and that's fine with me! I know who I'm doing this for and that's for me. Good luck!

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

WOW....Grandmax, I wish you so much luck. My sister is also looking into weight loss surgery in Mexico. She's so worried. She wants to do the sleeve. I'll be helping her look into other places. Do you have any information regarding the facility you are going to in Mexico? Do you know if they do the sleeve? Anyway, again....Good luck! I'm sorry you're going alone, but I know of a girl who went alone and she did just fine.

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Yes....I'm a DECEMBER BANDSTER. My surgery date is 12/30/08. I'm looking forward to it. My doctors name is Dr. Matei, he's at Memorial Healthcare Systems. Very nice doctor. Met with him yesterday. I was measured and weighed. Thank God I wasn't shocked about the scale, I was pretty much where I thought. My biggest fear right now is experiencing errosion or when I get adjustments have too much and won't be able to swallow....That's my biggest fear. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Can't wait!!!! I have a few things to take care of first. I have 2 nutritional classes, 1 pre-op class, tests, and appointment with primary. Other than that, I'm good to go. I already rec'd approval from my work for the dates and they are excited for me.
  14. Congrats.....I'm excited for you. I can't wait to be there as well. This week on the 19th in fact, I have my first appointment with the surgeon here in Florida. I am looking forward to starting my new life. Since I've decided to do the band, I've had so many mixed feelings from family and friends. Most of them support it, but they're scared for me. I have to admit, I'm a bit concerned for myself, but I am more excited than anything to get the process started. Good luck on Wednesday.....I know for most who have done the band, its been a worth while journey! I'm sure it will be for you too!

    Meeting with Dr.

Hi.... I'm also in the beginning process. This Wednesday I have my first appointment with the surgeon. Can't wait! I really want to get that surgery more than anything. I am ready for a change and know it's the right way to go for me! I've ready so many of the blogs people have posted and they are very useful. Some of them are reality checkers and some of them are those that really make my decision more exciting. Keep in touch!

Hi...WOW...That is awesome. I can't wait. I have my first appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday this week, I'm so looking forward to it. I can't wait for my surgery date. 13 pounds??? Congrats!!! It must feel great. So how have you been doing? What have your initial experiences been with the band? How is the liquid diet going? Good luck with your journey. I'll definitely be writing more as I get closer to the date, but at least hearing your perspective will really help!

    First visit with surgeon.

Hello.... I have not been banded yet. I first went to a seminar, after the seminar, I had a consultation at the surgeon's office to go over more information such as what surgery I was interested in and how much the cost would be as well as the process. Next week I have the appointment with the surgeon so lets see how that goes. I'm looking forward to getting this process a long and ready for surgery!
  18. Thanks for stopping by. I'm actually paying out of pocket believe it or not. The surgery is a policy exclusion, so I had no other choice. I figure its one of the best investments I'll make in myself. Good luck to you.

  19. Hello Everyone: My name is Yvette, I'm 29 years old, live in the South Florida area and will soon be having LAP BAND Surgery. My first consultation with the surgeon Dr. Matei will be next week November 19th. I'm ready to change my life for good. I've tried every diet, weight watchers was the most consistent diet and one that I did the most. I actually lost almost 40 pounds with it, but then gained them back. I know that LAP BAND is right for me and although I'm anxious about some of the things I've read about it, I see how successful it has been with others and feel that in the end this is what will help me be who I want to be physically. I want to be healthy and live long. I do not have any children yet, but hope to have children in the future. I've watched countless video blogs on You Tube about LAP BAND and others who have undergone the surgery and what they've gone through. Those videos have been very helpful at least with what to expect. I guess my biggest fear right now is getting a fill and not being able to swallow if its been flled too much. That scares me. Anyway any suggestions that anyone can provide will be welcomed and appreciated.

    hello

Hi Pink: My name is Yvette. I haven't had the procedure done yet. I'm at the beginning stages of it. The first thing I did was visit a free seminar. I live in South Florida so I went to one of the ones here. I think the best place to start would be to find a surgeon in your area. I believe this site provides a link to find a surgeon in your area. Then, after the seminar. I went for a free consultation that basically explained the cost without insurance (which I have to pay out of pocket) and what it all includes. Also, more detailed information but basically the same as the seminar. Next week, I have an appointment with the surgeon. Not sure what to expect there, maybe tests? Who knows? Then I know they mentioned taking 2 nutritional classes prior to surgery then, surgery. So I'm hoping that I can get the surgery the week after Christmas. That would be great due to time off constraints for work. Aside from the information that I've recieved at the doctors office, I've gone on YouTube and found some useful information from LAP BAND patients, etc...Very useful. Also found this site today and it's been useful as well. Good luck and anything I can do to help you along the way, count on me!
