  1. Hello! I was banded by NJ Bariatrics in Plainsboro on 5/22/09. I have lost 18 pounds since 5/1 and got a 2cc fill last Monday. Since then, I have had five serious episodes of food getting stuck. Today my son had to call 911. We were both very frightened. I have been chewing the same way for 51 years now, and it is hard to having ultra-chewing come naturally. Today it was a small piece of beef. Extreme pain. Was stuck for 3 hours. I am going on Thursday to have some fill removed and the band checked. I know I should be on mushier foods and I don't want to mess this up. Is 2ccs too large a large fill for the first time or should I just sweat it out and keep the greater restriction? Need help.

    East Brunswick/Spotswood Area!

Thanks for the good advice. I am down about 40 pounds since May, but I have started to eat too much easy junk like chips and cookies. I get food stuck a lot when I am tense emotionally or hyper from working a lot. Am starting to get a bit discouraged, though I generally feel and look better. Nothing is easy, but I will keep plugging!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Sorry, no, HH! My doctors are Dr. Brolin and Dr. Chau in Plainsboro at NJ Bariatrics. A good setup. I have been satisfied with their team. Best wishes to you!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I called my doctor and he told me just to take a sip of club soda to try to "burp it out." Yesterday I was on yogurt, mostly. enjoyed the new Greek yogurt Oikos that is flavored with honey. It was good. Tried some tuna salad at lunch, but I guess I needed to chew that better, too. Started to feel that clenching senssation, so I stopped after two small spoonsful. Am learning to chew better. That stuck feeling is really, really terrible. I was frightened. I will try raising my arms and walking around (hey, now there's a good look!) I want ths to work. I guess these are the lessons. Thanks for helping!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

This will be a new beginning for him and for your connection. I know how much you care about DH's health. I wish you and him the best. Got my first fill on Monday and have had two incidences of food getting stuck since then. Awful and scary! I was really in pain and felt like punching someone. Then, when it was over, it was over! Any suggestions for this? Club soda helped a bit.

Best wishes, patience, and prayers for a successful bypass for DH. It's a differnt path to the same goal. Get ready to look after each other!

Certainly! I think your surgeon is right and that you're doing great! I also agree with Phyllser that you are probably not eating enough. As I understand it, you are in a knind of "neutral phase" of not gaining or losing until your first fill. You are supposed to be healing and maybe just losing a little bit. Please don't get discouraged. I was banded on 5/22 and have lost about the same as you. I have taken this opportunity to eat healthier foods and turn my whole family on to better quality eating. Tonight I got take-out Chinese and asked for everything to be cooked with minimal sauce and low oil. I did not tell my husband or kids. They didn't even notice except for saying that the food tasted "fresher." This is the beginning of a life change. Enjoy your journey to wellness. We are all here for you!
  8. Hey, Jo,

Thanks for your constructive thoughts and advice. I am eating everything well-chewed and mush, mush, mushy! I made a nice soft chicken chili (still want to cook for my family) and tried a bit of rice with it. Chili went fine, rice did not. Overstepped the guidelines. Otherwise, I have not had a fill yet but feel restriction and can't eat very much. Have very few carbs generally, but I am still trying to keep that food group on the DL.

Let's keep in touch. Trying to do the right thing and get healthy!

    Regards,

    Maureen

  9. Hey, Penn! Thanks for the support today. I have been eating a mushed-up variety of foods, and, although I have not yet had a fill, I feel restriction and a definite sense of fullness. I am having a hard time developing the water habit, though. I know that I should be sipping all day. Will try to get better at this. When I was first home from surgery, I heated up some low-salt Swanson chicken broth and added two tablespoons of cooked pastina with a tiny bit of parmesan cheese. It was soft, hot and good and felt like food. Just a suggestion for next week for you. I am chewing and eating slowly and learning to expand the list of cooked veggies I like. I will not stick with this if I do not make it work for me. Best wishes to you and all readers here!

    Regards,

    Maureen

  10. Thanks, Bee!

I have had a good week and have led all my meals with protein. I am trying very hard to stay away from junk, but some days I do better than others. I had my first "stuck" experience when I tried to eat some rice - so NO MORE OF THAT! My first fill will happen on July 13, after our family vacation. This time next year? Well, I already have a little dress picked out to wear for next summer! (Don't sweat the Appletini! Balance, portion size, and moderation -remember!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

:wub:Hello, All! Am celebrating my two-week anniversary of banding here in the glamorous Garden State! Feel okay. Took a week off then worked 1/days for three days. Some days I feel very high energy, others not so much. have only had one bad experieince so far - rice! Can't do it. Just forgot and took a few forkfuls. Not sick, just VERY uncomfortable and full. Lesson learned. Tried new Special K crackers - 19 equal 90 calories- with some cheese for a snack. Pretty good and crispy. Hoping to be able to go swimming soon. Pants feeling a bit loose... Looking forward to less of me, Maureen
  12. Hello, B!

Got banded on 5/22. Lots 10 pounds before that with some liquid protein and no carbs. Right now, I can eat pretty much anything if I chew, chew, chew. Can't do bread or pasta, though. Made some chicken chili last week - very soft and lo-fat. I don't feel "high-up" restriction, but I do get full easily. Is that okay? Took a week off work and went back today without pain meds. Did okay, but the boss says 1/2 days are okay until I feel better. Nice to have some online support here. Am confident, but I feel that I am not doing something right.

    Fast Approaching 1 Year Bandiversary!

Thanks, Michelle! I am on my way! First post-op doc visit today. Looking forward to mushy foods!
  14. Hello! Just got banded and am nervous but hopeful! Feel a bit bloated right now and a bit afraid to eat anything! I would appreciate your thoughtful input. I also would like to know how to put a ticker on the bottom of my profile. Can someone help?

    Fast Approaching 1 Year Bandiversary!

Hppy Bandiversary, Michelle! What an accomplishment! I am sure that you look and feel great. Be proud of yourself! You will be young, and lighter, and full of life! Woo-hoo! I got my band three days ago and am still uncomfortable from the surgery process - bloated and a bit stiff. However, I will press on because I want to be there when my sons (ages 12 and 14) get married and graduate grad school, and I want to go to Paris with my husband, and I want to read every book... Michelle, I went to the diet ticker site and picked out a ticker, but I do not know how to attach it to my profile. Could you help? I enjoy looking at peoples' tickers, and I think that it might help me along, too. Thanks! Maureen

    New in New Jersey!

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery, Cappy! I am scheduled for February 17 at Princeton Hospital. I am approved and have started to eat and think differently, but I am still a bit scared about being able to manage the whole thing. I have read some posts, and people write a lot about "emotional eating" habits that linger like phantom limbs. I think that is going to happen to me, too. Mostly, though, I am concened about my husband and son who are both far too heavy. I am trying to set a good example by doing this surgery and altering some patterns. That is my "full plate" now. Thanks for being my first forum buddy. Please let me know about your progress.
  17. Getting ready by trying to drink all this water. I am blessed with a big tummy and a small bladder, but I am trying! Need support and am hoping for everyone's success.:rolleyes2:
