3/14/09 Cheap Motivation
Santa brought me an electronic Pedometer for Christmas…he’s good to me, that Santa. I haven’t really had a reason to use it until now (remember, the non weight loss issue). I got it out to start using it last week with the start of my actual dieting. DH helped me measure my stride and set it up (10-15 min.). It’s got a software component so we loaded that (you just put the CD in and push install). It was inexpensive, easy to set up and it is easy to use. It tracks your steps (and separates steps that are done aerobically) if it’s on you vertically or horizontally even. It comes with a clip and a lanyard, but you can also just drop it in your pocket or purse (way smaller than a cell phone...shaped like an egg). Well I got to the end of the week and guess what? I couldn’t find the cord to hook it up to the computer so I could download my information...nice. I’d about come to the conclusion that it went out with the Christmas wrapping paper when it turned up yesterday when I was cleaning out my desk (who says Friday the 13th is bad luck). I took a look at the download and it’s going to be easy to use. It’s on all the time and once you set up the date and time I never have to push a button even...well, I do have to attach it to the computer and push 'download' on the computer once a week (but I love how I don't have to even think about it all week if I don't want to...I have more important things to think about...like where I stashed the computer cord!) It shows your information any way you want it; steps, aerobic steps (so I won’t have to track the treadmill separately), aerobic walking time, distance, calories, fat burned and your progress against any goals you’ve set up. It will be simple for me to take my calories burned and enter them into my FitDay food & exercise account. It’s actually fun to see how you’re doing…I’m easily entertained ($30 bucks...cheap entertainment). So I’m back to tracking steps…now MARCH 2, 3, 4...... If anyone is interested: Omron HJ-720ITC $29.75 Amazon (with free shipping)...way less than what I paid in Dec., and you know OCD me, I researched them all, this one was rated #1 by Money Mag. and had great reviews. -Ahhh Loozzzeeana...Now I want a beignet. -Azaleas...oh, yes, pretty please...they're blooming aren't they? Mine have frost on them this morning :-( Sagoes...that's cool! We have a Dawn Redwood we planted in our front yard (a rediscovered plant-found them growing in China I believe...they thought was extinct...also from the Dinosaur days...it's a deciduous conifer...looks like a dead pine tree right now).

Mushies- Chicken and White Bean Stew
Perfection! This has half my daily protein needs in one serving! Yay! I keep hearing others on LBT complain more about the mushie stage than the liquid stage even...mainly because you're on it so long (me-5 weeks) and you get so bored with what you're eating. Thanks for all the variety and helping me get my protein in without just nasty shakes! -BG

Hi this is my first blog and I'm excited to be a part of this forum.
Oh, I forgot about the gall bladder. Quite a few people have issues with this after WLS. Both my Mom and 1 sister have had there's out (they didn't have WLS), so I'm wondering if I'll have that issue too. The gall bladder is on the right side. My Mom had pain there (just below the rib cage), but my sister had hers mainly in her back on the right (shoulder blade). I'm glad you're getting help. If it gets worse, call again an push them for an earlier visit (my sister ended up in an ambulance it got so painful). Gall bladder attacks can happen after a high fat/rich food meal. You might want to avoid certain foods or at least track what you've eaten in relation to your attacks until your Dr. visit as it may help with the diagnosis. If you have to have it out it's a very simple lap procedure, much easier than LB, and my family members had immediate relief. I had the beginnings of an ulcer years ago and it's definitely worse at night...like reflux or GERD, and it can hurt a lot too. Hope you're feeling better soon! -BG

3/13/09 Spring Fever
I'm the grumpy one in front. I’m feeling blah today. I’m not sure what it is…the ‘Spring Ahead’ clock change this week, the lack of enough coffee (I’m sipping my last cup right now to make it last…it’s cold now), or maybe that it’s Friday the 13th. I do know I’m sick of Winter. Mother Nature was teasing me last weekend with that 70° high (mean woman!). It’s 23° right now and we might hit 50° this weekend…weeee. I feel like a hibernating bear right now. I’m a person who is affected by the weather…I think I was meant to live in the South, although I do enjoy watching the season’s change. I enjoy sunlight. I put 32 windows and four glass doors in our house, and no it’s not that big…I just love natural light. Spring is my favorite season, but the past few years here in Pittsburgh we really haven’t had one. Last year ‘Spring’ was cold and raining everyday, then it went straight to a blazing hot Summer (so no Spring) and unfortunately my Asthma doesn’t enjoy extreme heat of summer. OK, winter is on it’s way out…whinefest over. I think all of us getting bands this time of year are extremely lucky. I’ve said before that I felt sorry for those getting their bands right before the holidays; especially those in my climate. They must be extremely dedicated…make it through the holidays with no restriction yet and then sit there in the snow all winter. There will be no excuses for me not to be getting enough exercise…I’ll be banded right as Spring begins and will have the nice weather and all the outside activities it brings to look forward to. One more week until the Equinox/first day of Spring (March 20) and I'm hoping it actually arrives and is on time this year. I can’t wait!

14 Weeks Post Op
Good job not beating yourself up about the 1#! You've got the right attitude and you know just what to do. Look how much you've accomplished in such a short time...you're doing great, just remember that! -BG

Hi this is my first blog and I'm excited to be a part of this forum.
First WELCOME to LBT! And secondly, please call your doctor about this TODAY if you haven't already. Pain that is making you double over 6 mo. after banding is NOT normal. It may be as simple as you're eating too late before bedtime, or your not eating enough and it's a blood sugar problem overnight (this happens with diabetics or pre/diabetics sometimes), but it could be as serious as the beginning signs of band slippage or erosion. Please get it checked out and be persistent with your doc about your issue and needs so he'll take a look/fluroscope! Keep me posted. Good luck to you! -BG

3/12/09 The Buzz about Coffee
I think many fat people have addictive personalities. That's why transfer addictions are such an issue post-op. I often wish that food was like other addictions...go cold turkey, go through withdrawl/12 step program and never touch it again...not possible. Well if I end up going back to an addiction post-op at least coffee/caffeine is one I can live with...we'll see. DH asked me what was wrong with me last night when I snapped at him...yikes. Thanks for the support/information all! And Ben...that only works with asparagus LOL.

A Scale Whore Sees Results after a Plateau
That's great! Re. weight goals...I like to set mine high short term, but at a resonable level long term. It's always worked well for me (too bad I didn't set goals for keeping it off). I find a high short term goal pushes me hard to get there and a resonable long term goal allows you to feel good when you exceed it and allows for plateaus and times you get off track. I don't feel too bad if I'm a little above a monthly goal because I know I can start another goal the next month. But keeping below that long term goal graph line is important to me...way below one month, almost on it the next...it's all getting me to the end goal happily and it keeps me feeling good about any kind of progress. My long term goal is 100# in two years including pre-band, which is only a little over 1# a week...do I expect to lose way more than that with the pre/post op diet, yep, but that also allows for gaining weight back, which happens for many, plateaus and the big slow down nearing goal. Time for a SWA meeting...give your opinions gals! -BG PS- BTW that's a huge fill-4cc's! I wish my doc were that aggressive (I've heard he's not).

Correct food - easier - help
Dumping is the term RNY'ers use for when they eat something they aren't allowed or doesn't agree with them and it goes straight through them because of the bypass...diarrhea (usually acccompanied by nausea and shakes). I believe you're talking about PBing, not Dumping. PB is Productive Burp...vomiting. Just an FYI so you get the right answer here as I've never heard of dumping associated with the LB. Good luck to you. -BG

Cashew Chicken
Thanks for explaining...I need basic cooking lessons...and a smaller crockpot for next year (there'll be on 3 of us left if DD finds a job after college). I'll put that on my wish list. Thanks!

Not feeling full!!
This is the great thing about LBT...I'm preband and I know not to expect to get to my sweet spot until 3-4 fills, maybe more, maybe less. Some have little or no real restriction until that point. I've seen several here who had no restriction until a year after banding. Remember too that fills sometimes don't kick in until 4 weeks later...not sure why, but some see restriction that far out (that's why docs space fills that far apart). Be patient...we'll all get there!!! ...and welcome elf to LBT! -BG
