  1. So, I started a preop diet then, on my own....I wanted to get a good head start.....At my appt I was down 15 pounds, and I lost another 10 before surgery. My appt BMI was 37, and I too was scared to loose anymore before approval, but that only took a few days and so I continued.....mostly with portion control. As far as the 6 months preop diet, I had one of those sheets from the orientation for 6 consecutive months to hand to patty at my consult--as well as all the other requirements---hence, I was ready to be scheduled. I asked during my consult for him to show me where the port would be, and they pick the type of band for you, depending on availability and body structure. I have the lap band. Dr Uchal did the surgery with Colella assist. I was in much more pain postop than I expected, but the meds did manage it. I got up out of bed that evening and walked the halls so I would avoid complications and get my bowels moving....I would recommend this.
