10 lbs from goal - no restriction

This is kind of weird, I just logged into add a message that would be the opposite of this thread. Anyway, I think I was like you guys for most of my journey. However when I got close to my goal and since then, I've noticed the restriction a little more. In previous discussions, I have said I haven't found a food I couldn't eat. I think part of my success has come from working hard, and allowing my self an occasional treat after milestones. The day I broke my goal was the morning of a recent 5K run. They had doughnuts available and I thought, I'm about to run 3 miles as fast as I can in 80+ heat, I deserve a glazed doughnut. Even though I ate slowly, it sat like a brick in my stomach. In several other cases, I think right now I am feeling more restriction than anytime during my diet. Not sure why, but it should make things a little easier.
  2. I'll be at a wedding. Hope to meet you guys one day.
  3. Hello everyone, I'm embarassed to admit it took me 8 months to find this subforum. There are so many. I wondered where you all went!
  4. There is the point. Many don't think. Between my wife and I we each have had several obnoxious people get downright demanding in wanting answers. I chose to keep it to myself.

I'll bet you will find your 5k times on the road are better than the ones on the treadmill.

Great Ebony, I too am thinking about the winter ahead and will be in the same situation, though I think my winters are a little milder than yours. I see your right at the half way point. I attribute my first half to the band and my effort, I attribute a lot of the 2nd half to the running, so make a note to come back near the end of the year so I can give you my "I told you so"

Another 5k, another personal record. Love this stuff.
  8. Mine, as you can see by my signature, is very conservative. Remember the band is a tool not a fix, For me it was enough of a tool to help my own efforts be successful.

    Goal!

It went very well. It was at a nice place, My wife's best friend from school was there and she also brought her husband. He and I have become acquainted. We pretty much sat and talked all night and let the wives circle the floor. The most fun part, for me anyway, I hadn't eaten dinner so I ordered an appetizer and ate as I have been recently. We ended up being there till midnight and they brought out appetizers. I let myself eat more than I would have knowing I was a pound below my goal and that I had a 5K scheduled for the morning. (New personal record ) At 150, you will still be one of the skinny ones.
  10. Well, its not a goal, but I have more than a year till my driver's license needs renewed. I am currently more than 50 pounds under what it says. A "This isn't you" might be nice.
  11. This happened today, and I thought some of you might enjoy it. Its a very rainy, hot humid day here in Columbus, Ohio. I think they have the AC set on a timer not to come on till 8am. A coworker named Steve and I were the first in the office. . He said, “Are you hot, or is it just me?” I replied, “Well, I have lost some weight lately”.
  12. I've been told I am full of wit. At least that is what I think they said.

Ebony, Let me give you a little tip for preventing and even helping shin splints. Take a wash cloth, or a dish towel and get it soaking wet. (obviously not to be done in your carpeted areas.) Sit on a chair with your legs crossed the way a lady in a short skirt might and pick the wet towel up off the floor using your toes, grabbing between your big toe and the next one. One you get it, lift it as high as you can,and them lower it back, repeating 10 times. This is a great exercise to prevent the splints.
  15. For those of you in the border line BMI's if your insurance covers it, go for it. I'm so glad I did. No more blood pressure medicine, no more CPAP machine. I'm ready to smash that thing, but I found it has a retail value of around $1500.
  16. 3 days, you must have been miserable. I have a piece of chicken, I'm not sure how long it would have taken, but I manage to get it back up, took me an hour, but it was a very long hour.

We have an amazing summer as far as weather. Saturday I ended up having to run on the treadmill at the gym. For those of you on the treadmill, it is MUCH harder than running outside. I set the speed on the treadmill so that I would complete 5k in a time that would match my best road time. That was tough. Of course I get the last treadmill in the gym, and the fans don't work, not that they help much anyway, so right away you lose cooling air. Other medical issues cause me to be a little off balance so keeping my balance on the treadmill is a lot more work. In a 5k, I may knock some 5'4 110 pound person off the course, but I can manage that. I also remember from my HS cross country days, that I ran my best times when I varied my pace a little. Plus I've noticed on the road you get an occasional adrenaline rush that helps. (Running by a nice looking lady who takes a 2nd look, or crossing an intersection before the light turns. Looks like I will be buying cold weather running gear this year.
  20. I'm impressed with the email return. That was from the surgeon? I could email the nutritionist, and get replies from her. My doctor was very responsive, except he insisted on 8 weeks before the first fill. I made it with out much difficulty, but I know that it is hard on others.
  21. The Water test is just one test. When you mention a specific food getting stuck, I have to ask, did you chew properly, or is spinach always a problem? I've also heard that saying "I hate the Steelers" over and over again helps the food go down. :crying:

How soon did you get back to golf?

Us northerners just get our surgery in the winter. I had mine 12/17 and it was later march before I was able to golf for weather reasons.
  23. My wife and I both had surgery last year. We could no longer fit in most coaster seats. We had a great time at Cedar point this summer. To put it mildy, no way in hell. I have a horrible fear of heights. I did get to go parasailing in Cozumel in April, we were over the limit on previous cruises. I have to question your taste here, The 2009 Mustang Pony in Vista Blue is clearly a better choice. One of my goals was getting back into 36 jeans. Now that I am 3 pounds from my goal I bought a pair of 34's today. I'm running again, and hope to do a half marathon next year.

They probably thing more highly of that person than seeing the same person walking out of McDonald's with a supersized meal.

Want more encouragement? Are you stressed? I had a horrible day at work Thursday. The kind of day where you weigh the consequences of what you really want to do with how much you need the money. It had been raining most of the day, if the rain continued I was going to run on the treadmill, which I hate. It was just one more crappy thing to a bad day. The rain stopped and I was going to be able to run. Just knowing that improved my spirits 100%. I was going to run 4 miles, but just decided to run the 5k at a slower pace than my normal daily run. It was then I realized that once you feel comfortable running the distance, it is a huge stress reliever. Many coworkers may not have to fear my wrath today and I might be able to tolerate them all the way till 5pm. The title of this thread is need encouragement. How about finding the best stress reliever. I've only been at this around 5 months. It is so worth it.
