  1. My doctor switched me from dilantin to Lyrica for seizure control and the Lyrica had other benefits so that's been great. However, I went on it after having been at my goal weight for 4 months and then in January I had a sciatic injury that helped me gain 15 pounds back. I've lost 7 of that, but can't seem to lose the remaining 8-10 to get back to my original goal. I'm pretty much doing the same things that helped my success, but seem to be in a huge rut. Now, I shouldn't complain, I'm still at a weight that is pretty good, but just where I want to be. I'm wanting to blame the Lyrica as weight gain is one of the side effects.

Have you signed up? Is there one in Pittsburgh in Late Nov? I'll be running a 10k in Erie over Thanksgiving.

    Half Marathon!

I hope Leigha comes back and tells us. I just completed my 4th half and in a new personal best. Time to update my signature :laugh:

Absolutely, I never ran more than 8 miles prior to my first 1/2. Next week is #4.

I calculated I burn 1900 calories in a 1/2 marathon. Great way to burn it off.

    Half Marathon!

Good luck, my first 1/2 was one of the highlights of my adult life. I've done 2 more since with #3 a few weeks away. Keep it up.
  7. Good luck, I was in your boat back in late 08. I'm approaching my 2 year anniversary and have been staying between 25 and 27 BMI for more than a year now.

What made you trip, another racer, a pot hole? Or looking at something interesting? In a recent 10k I recognized someone I hadn't seen in 10 years, started talking and ran right into the back of someone :)

I say nonsense. I started running in March of 09, by September I had run several 5 and 10ks. I spent 3 weeks getting ready for my first half and it was great fun, loved every minute of it.

Welcome Teb, Maybe I'll see you at Disney. I would have done the marathon in Disney this past January, but I was saving every penny for the April Wedding. In hindsite, I'm glad I wasn't able, it was like 29 degrees and freezing rain that day this year.

I'm back, been a rough winter/spring - In January, I hurt my back (Sciatic) 5 months later, and it still hasn't healed. I was unable to run for a couple of months, tried to start again twice and hurt it again. I'm back to running for the 3rd time and being more careful this time. The bad news is I put on 15 pounds and am 15 pounds above my goal weight and where I was in my peak running last years. in that time period, my daughter got married. Here is a little picture from that. Running season has started again, and while I feel like I am starting all over again and I'm nowhere near my best times, at least I'm ahead of where I was last year. But I'm finding getting this 15 pounds off the second time is even harder. But I'm confident it will come off as soon as my back allows me to run 30 miles a week again.

Welcome to 2010! I don't remember if I said it, but I've committed to running a marathon this year. Probably the USAF marathon in September in Dayton, Ohio. Unfortunately I've had some bad luck since I signed up for the Capital city 1/2 Marathon. I bruised the sciatic nerve in my back and have been knocked out of running for 2 weeks! I hope to start up again in the next few days, but a foot of white death is bearing down on us in Columbus today, so we will see. Oh, I put on 7 pounds during my off time, time to get back on the diet again. I know if will come off and I will be back at my goal weight when I can start running again.
  13. I sympathize with you, my wife and I both went through this together and the mutual support was a big factor for both of us being successful (in my opinion) PLus she has coworkers going through it as well so she got support from both sides. I guess you did the right thing coming here, you can find support here.
  14. My wife and I both work at large companies, and just had a small group of people who knew. Once she started losing lots of weight you would be surprised at the really stupid things that people who didn't even know her would stop and say. I lost 75 pounds with the band, but it was more gradual so most people assumed I just did it on my own. (Plus it helped that I started running and put up running awards on my office wall)
  15. When I quit my pepsi habit, I started buying bottled water with caffeine in it. That helped me avoid those dreaded caffeine headaches, they are bad.
  16. When my wife mentioned to my family she was having gastric bypass, MY MOM said, "I thought she was gaining weight so she could have the surgery" I was so pissed at her I decided not to even tell her I had the lap band. Since then my wife and I have both been very sucessful in our different path and are happy. Mom didn't need to know and I pretty much kept how I did it to myself.
  17. Would that be a large group or a group of large folks? Kidding, I know that joke is old. I will try to remember this month.

    Columbus Area

Good luck Jen and Angel, I go for my 1 year follow up at OSU tomorrow! Hard to believe its been a year already, but it sure helped make 2009 a better year for me. I keep promising to make one of the Polaris gatherings, maybe this one. (Lap band surgery did little to help my memory)
  19. Less than 1 year post surgery I ran the half marathon. I am committing to run a full marathon before the 2nd anniversary of my surgery. I am shooting for the Columbus Marathon on 10/17/10. Any other lapbanders complete a marathon?

Anybody still around? I'm still running, but the cold weather has really slowed things down. I did buy a 3 month membership to a gym that has a small running track. As a benefit I swim after. I have joined a group run that will run on weekends starting 1/23. Hope everyone has a better 2010 than 2009. For me that should be easy.

    Couch to Marathon, join me?

I looked primarily for endurance, I started running building up to 3 miles in the period of one month prior to running in a 5k, then I kept signing up for another 5k every 2-3 weeks. After several of those I tried a 10k, then finally after running all fall I did a 1/2 marathon, which I plan on repeating May 1st.

    Not Confident Enough

I see your in Tennessee, you can get some walking/running in all year when standing in front of the WII gets boring (I have a WII as well) Do you have a Curves in your area, or a women only gym if that helps?

    Couch to Marathon, join me?

Good luck pronteus. I know running help me get to my goal pretty quick this year. My marathon plans may get moved up a bit. My nephew is planning on getting married the weekend of the Columbus Marathon so I may switch to the USAF marathon in Dayton in September.
  24. Happy anniversary to me, and the several other people I remember talking to this time last year. I know there was at least 5 of us. One year and 78 pounds down for me! It was a great decision.
