  1. Agnes, I had my surgery May 15th and its gone as smooth as possible. I've only lost 16lbs, but since I've been eating healthier and excercising, my body has changed for the better. I come to this site often and also have a support group at the hospital where I got the surgery, its been great hearing all of the successes and motivating those who haven't done so well. I just hope that because of the rudeness of some you do not turn away from this site. There really is a wealth of information on here, so my advice would be to continually read the posts all throughout the site. As for those who are putting Agnes down for doing her thing, who pissed in your Protein shake? Simmer down with all that mess and help a Sister out! If you don't like it then don't respond!
  2. Hi!! Yes I am, I had surgery May 15th. How are you?

    Maybe I over did it?

    Thank you!

    Maybe I over did it?

I had surgery May 15 and I went to the gym a couple of times like the week after, I only did fast walkin on the treadmill for like 30 min. At my first check up the week after my surgeon said it was ok to do the kick box class, but I didn't do it until like my 3rd week. As far as the swelling it went away after the 2nd week, so I wouldn't worry too much, everybody's body is different. BUT only we know our bodies and if you feel uncomfortable then you should bring it up to your doctor again. Also, did you happen to lift anything heavy? You have to be careful of that as well.
  5. I just had a discussion with my cousin on Sunday that I told about my surgery last month. He asked why and I told him so that it can HELP me to not only lose weight but also keep the weight off, and he asked me "Well, what's going on? Why are you still fat????", like I should have been a bean pole or something. I kind of laughed because I knew that there was gonna be someone that would say something like that, but at the same time, I understand why people would think that! I guess because of the Gastric Bypass and the dramatic weight loss that happens right after the surgery and thats why people think that any type of weight loss surgery should have that type of result.

    Maybe I over did it?

I totally did that about 2 weeks ago, I had done a kickboxing class, although low impact, it did hurt. I got scared that I slipped my band or something, my dr ofc was closed and I wasn't sure if I should go to the ER so I decided that I'd waited it out thinking that I overdid it and sure enough the next day I was A-OK. If you don't feel comfortable call your doctor right away!

    great job!!!
  9. Im cracking up at this!!! TOO FUNNY!!
  10. Ok so we all discuss the caloric intake, but how much exercise and what types of exercises do you do? Is it on a daily basis, every other day? And lastly, how long? I was banded on 5/15 and went to the gym 2 times since (fast walking for 30 mins on treadmill) but since I went back to work I walk to and from the train everyday (about 30 mins total). Other than that, nada. I did this because I was being lazy , but really waiting til my body heals. im going to the gym right after work but I need to do something to get this weight to start falling off since I been at a stagnant weight since the the surgery (grrrr!! ).
  11. Im so JEALOUS!!!! I WANT TO BURP TOO!!! :crying: I feel like I have to burp soooooo friggin bad, but it won't come out! I do however continuously get the hiccups, like 4 or 5 after I eat, today I hiccuped alot though.
  12. I had surgery on May 15th and I called my nutritionist and told her I was starving!! She called me on Saturday May 23rd and ok'd me to eat yogurt and eggs and cottage cheese. It was the best time for her to call me, too because I was at the grocery store buying more broth, and boy, I did a little dance:willy_nilly: in the aisle and ran to the cottage cheese aisle. So I think you should call your doc and see if its ok.
  13. Scott, I just had my surgery May 15th and I was really really nervous, yet excited because I new it was a whole new life. You'll be fine and this board has LOADS and LOADS of information that you will always have at your reach, as well as your doctors. We'll see you on the "flipside"!!!

    Fun Goals...

I have planned on this goal, if I lose 50-60lbs by November, I am buying myself (and my son) tickets to Paris for a week in the spring. I have always wanted to go but have never even tried, so this is pretty big for me.

    Does anyone feel this??

YES!!!! I felt this since day one! I was told that it was more than likely gas pains, but damn if I do not eat something in that moment I feel like Im about to pass out!!! Its been getting better, although I get the hiccups alot and that hurts like hell!! I've always been that way, like a hiccup or two every once in a while. Last night though the gas hurt so bad I was dreaming about the pain and woke up! It was like a big bubble right under my rib cage on the left side. I was crying when I woke up.

    pain meds

HAHA!!!! What meds? The only ones they gave me were in the hospital and when I was released last Saturday, I was told CHILDRENS LIQUID TYLENOL!!!!! I found Tylenol Extra Strength in liquid form at Walgreens and thats what I have been taking. I WISH I was prescribed something, but alas....Im OK (I guess...)
  18. Ok, here goes. I was banded on 5/15/09 at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. Day of surgery got to OutPatient Surgery Center at 7:30. I waited until about 8 when they called me into the room where the wonderful and very caring nurse Donna did all the preppings, heprin shot was given in my stomach area (to which she said most people feel less pain there as opposed to behind the arm :cursing:) Then my surgeon Dr. Rosett came in and asked me a bunch of questions, I told him I was scared to which he replied "So am I!!" LOL that broke the ice for me. The anesthesiologist came in and asked all his questions and then after that I was wheeled to the OR. I then got really nervous:scared2: but they (the OR nurses) were all great. Then the anesthesiologist gave me something to "Relax" and after 3 secs of that setting in I asked him to hide some for me for later LOL and that I wanted to buy stock in it as well, LOL!!! 2 mins later he said he was putting me to sleep and I asked for a good movie (like I was on a flight or something), I just remember everyone laughing and I was out!!! :cursing: I woke up about an hour or so later to the WORST pain, I was all mad because they woke me up and they asked what my name was and I shouted it out all pissed off! The nurse gave me morphine and it wasn't enough, she had to ask how much could be given and was given the go to give me more. After that it was all good. She told me I was an expensive date because of all the martinis that she had to give me to calm down, LOL! She was great and also very attentive, sat by me until it was time to go up to my private room. About 45mins I was taken to my room and was in and out of it for a bit. I got up to walk and that hurt like hell, but tolerable. Then I just laid in the bed all day. I wasn't allowed anything to drink or anything liek ice chips until the next day at about 4pm!! I took the barium chest xray at about 9 so not sure what the hold, but I was pretty damn hungry at that point I was crying. Not sure if it was really a mental thing because of all the commercials or what, but after a while my stomach was really hurting. I didn't have any pain from the gas until right before my discharge. Right in my left shoulder, man I cried so bad!! It felt like someone had stuck an icepick right in my joint and was wiggling it around! I still get it mildly at night, but other than that the gas hasn't been too much of a problem unless I eat too fast, then it feels like I gotta belch and it wont come out! Day 4 post op and I just got back to work, everything has been pretty good except these super painful hunger pangs that are really bad, but Im learning how to keep them under control day by day. So yeah that's it! :cursing:
  19. OH EM GEE!!! I am 4 days post op and the hunger pangs are the WORST I have ever felt, to the extent that I feel like Im about to pass out. I went to the movies yesterday, drank my broth before and took along a bottle of water. Well, we missed the time and had to wait an hour, not thinking, I just sipped on my water. 45 minutes before the movie ended I was in tears from the pain of being hungry. I will never ever do that again. Seems like instead of every 4 hours, I need to eat every 3 hours. It happened today as well, first day back to work. I had to run down to get the broth and nearly passed out. Did anyone else feel like this? It takes about 15 minutes after I've eaten to ease this pain and I go slow for fear of stretching my stomach! I HOPE this is not forever! :cursing:
  20. Let me tell you, this brought a tear to my eye, because I know that this is such a big deal for you and for all of us! I am post op 4 days and already feeling great, well except for the gas and stuff, but I took a pic and posted on my Facebook and everybody was like WHOA! and thats just 17lbs lighter than before! Congrats, dear and I can't wait to do the same dance! :cursing:
  21. I'm at the hospital now, getting ready to check in. I wasn't nervous up until yesterday and moreso last night! See you all on the "flipside"!!!
  22. So, Im on the 6th day of my pre-op liquid diet, but 3rd month since knowing I was going to be banded. My surgery date is May 15th, and I was supposed to lose 8-10 lbs prior to surgery date. I started doing the Slimfast diet as soon as I met with the nutritionist and I've only lost a total of 4 whopping pounds. Although I have been on this liquid diet, I have cheated but with "healthy foods". Like adding asparagus to my chicken broth, or an egg. Today I had a couple of walnuts, by couple I mean like 6 . I joined the gym to excercise, but I've gone maybe 3 times, which I plan on changing today! I HAVEN'T LOST A POUND!!! I need to lost about 6 lbs by next week or my surgeon will not perform the surgery! I'm scared. I stopped sugar and been eating better than I have my whole life, but my body doesn't want to let it go! HELP!
  23. Thank you all for the responses. I've got a week and I'm gonna do this. I changed the way I've eaten COMPLETELY and I do not want to go back! No more fast food, no more junk food. I am completely ready for this Band! Can't stop, won't stop! :glare: OK, Im going to the kitchen for a huge glass of Water.
  24. Hello! My surgery is May 15, and I am counting down the days! :) and you?
