    What Peeves you?

Me again... Another that comes to mind is people who do not freshen up their deodorant before hitting the gym equipment. For the past 2 days in a row I had to cut my workout short due to nasty B.O. next to me. The first time the man smelled like sour milk. It was so awful I moved 2 machines away (couldn't help it if it was obvious). Today's offender was a woman. While it wasn't as raunchy and constant as sour milk man, I was still glad when my time ended on the treadmill!

    What Peeves you?

Wow ladies, some of you certainly have a laundry list of peeves! I have laughed quite a bit reading them, because I can relate to so many. Adding to the "misbehaving children" category: At social functions - even if it is a small family function, WATCH YOUR CHILD. My husband and I are constantly following our 2 year around. She is rarely out of our site. But so often I feel like we are the only ones who do that. Do people really believe that everyone else at the party/function is just dying to watch and play with little Johnny for 4 hours straight??? I mean I am a total kid lover, but 4 hours????? I also hate having to reprimand other people's kids when their parents are nearby. If you see your kid being rude, get off your ass and step in yourself. I do enough behavior modification at school with my students. And quite frankly, as much as I may love my neices, nephews or friend's children, I AM NOT THEIR MOTHER!!!!!

    What Peeves you?

Amen! My friend attempted to lend me her old car seat one day when we were taking the kiddies somewhere together. It didn't even have the top clip on it!!!! She thought I was over-reacting when I tore mine out of my car and replaced it with the one she had in her car!!!

    What Peeves you?

I totally agree susannah, life is too short to get really steamed by pet peeves. My intention for this board was to provide a place where people could unload their minor annoyances and perhaps provide a few humorous moments to others who can relate to their particular pet peeve. By no means do I lose (How did I do GayleTX? ) sleep over the fact that my students (or so many adults) write "a lot" as one word. It just irks me. It is something that bothers me in the moment, not afterward. To piggy back off of Carlene's shopping cart peeve, I too have a similar one. Although, mine is more with WAL-MART than with the customers. My local WAL-MART apparantly does not believe in restocking the carts inside. You can never find parking because the lot is littered with shopping carts taking up multiple spots. I don't think anyone has been able to park within 3 spots of the little cart collection area for years!! The overflow of carts into the nearby spaces is just too much. WAL-MART!!! ARGGGGHHHHH!!!!
  7. I am a little over 6 months out. My current fill is 1.6 cc. I was at 2.0, but I started getting bouts of nausea that wouldn't subside. After a week, I got scared and went into , "OMG it has to be the band mode", I went to my surgeon. She removed, .04cc's and I was fine within a few hours...

    What Peeves you?

While a rather easy-going person, I do have my fair share of pet peeves. After grading 125 essays, one that stands out at the moment is the frequent misspelling of "a lot". Regardless of how often it is modeled for them, a large percentage of my middle school students insist on making it one word (alot). Perhaps they do this because such a large perentage of adults believe it is one word as well (my dh included). Yes, there is the homophone "allot" that is one word, but that is not the word they are intending to use. Please LBT... spead the word - "a lot" is 2 separate words !

    Sex Drive Poll

Thanks for your input ladies and gentleman. I find it surprising that weight loss has decreased some people's libido. I'm glad I did the poll. (Learn something new all the time ). Please keep your comments (and votes!) coming.

Would a Lap-Band Help This Man?

Wow - I just read his story. It is really heartbreaking. I think at 1,000 + pounds, he might not make it through a bypass. I'm with Mariah. Someone had to be bringing him his food, enabling the situation. I hope whoever that was is now out of the picture.
  11. BJean - Sure it enters my mind, I'm just saying that while I lean to the Republican side, it is not the be all and end all to my decision.
  12. I am registered as a republican, but I vote for republicans. democrats and independents. I tend to be a bit on the conservative side, but I don't go out to intentionally vote for one party or another. I vote the issues I agree with. If I am not familiar with the issues of both candidates, I will not vote for that particular office.

How often do you weigh yourself?

I have become a total scale addict. I weigh myself every morning when I wake up (3 X to make sure the scale is consistent). I also make an effort to weigh myself before hitting the gym and once again when I get home from the gym. I know the after gym weight loss is mostly Water weight, but if I am good, it usually doesn't creep back on by the morning. If I don't weigh myself every morning, I have a tendency to rationalize that I've been better than I actualy have been. So... daily weigh-ins keep me honest and in check!

    Sex Drive Poll

Thanks TOM - I thought he was a race car driver, thanks for confirming it for me/us. Please go back and enter an official vote on the poll if you get the chance. Love to have your input count!
  15. I don't think you can hold it against someone if they do not find you attractive while you are obese. While I can understand the propensity to call them shallow, I am not convinced that is true for everyone that isn't attracted to overweight people. Attraction is a mix of a physical, emotional, and intellectual connection between people. I have met my share of hard bodied hotties that I wasn't attracted to and wouldn't date. I do not think that makes me shallow. I don't think I would have dated my husband had he been morbidly obese when I met him. But since I met and fell inlove with him emotionally and intellectually, I certainly wouldn't leave him if he became fat. I for one, do not find obesity sexy. Maybe that's why I was eager to get the band and do something about it. As people lose weight, they most often begin to project themselves differently in public. It could very well be that the someone asks you out after losing weight, becuase they sense that.

    Sex Drive Poll

My sex drive has always been rather high, but the heavier I was the less I wanted to act on it. I used to look for excuses when hubby initiated and trying anything new to spice it up, was certainly out of the question. The quicker the better I used to think. Now that I have been losing weight and truly feel like I am on the right road, my self confidence has increased ten fold. Now instead of thinking about sex all the time, I actually act on it! Hubby loves the band!!! LOL

Mario Andretti = Famous Race car driver (I don't watch racing, but I'm pretty sure that's who he is, but now you have me doubting myself - lol) Can anyone else confirm?

    Sex Drive Poll

Wow ladies, you are quick! I hadn't even decided on all my categories yet. Please take a minute to vote now that I caught up to you. And thanks !!! Hopefully this thread will be good fun!
  20. Being from central jersey, you shouldn't be too far from NYC. You should check out Dr.'s Ren and Fielding out of NYU and Dr.'s Roslin,Kurian, & Shah, out of Lennox Hill Hospital. Both practices have been on Castle Connelly's Top Doctor's list for thier field. The NYU team has more experience with the lap band than most other practices in the country. Doesn't hurt to check into it. Good luck!

    Husbands!

chubbola - I agree with your satement "when i feel better about myself, my husband and i get along better" . My husband and I do not really fight all that much, but I can totally relate to your statement. I think the way people treat us has a lot to do with how we project ourselves to them. When I am doing well on a diet, I feel better about myself, and that projects to everyone around me. I am more likely to initiate conversations with people and feel that I emit a certain bubblieness that is lacking when I feel like crap about myself (for whatever reason). People seem to respond accordingly. sophrosyne - Without using the word sabbotage, ask your husband about his actions (milkshake during a diet attempt) during a time of calm. To bring it up at the moment it happens will surely lead to an arguement. To put in more of my two cents, men like to feel useful. When we bitch about something just to bitch, they usually assume we want them to fix the problem, when our only intention may be to just get it off our chest and move on. If your husband is like mine, he may feel frustrated when you make negative remarks about your weight one minute and dig in to the cake and cookies the next. Based on your past dieting declarations, attempts, and failures, he may subconsciously be questionning your commitment to diet, therefore making bonehead moves like bringing you a milkshake. To make him feel needed and apprecitated, try letting him know that you need to lose weight for your personal well being. Let him know that you want to be a better mother and wife. Tell him that you want to bring more to the relationship than you are able to right now and you know your weight (how it makes you feel both physically and emotionally) has a lot to do with it. Then let him know that you need his help and support with it (whether it be surgical or non-surgical). If you play up the angle of being a better wife and mother, it may put to rest any insecurities that a thin you will no longer want him- whether it is conscious or subconscious on his part.
  22. I voted for the more than 3 weeks, but only because I am a teacher and had my surgery at the beginning of the summer. Physically, I felt good enough to go back to work within just a few (3-5)days though.

WOW tropicaljill - You are doing great yourself. 30 lbs in under 3 months. That is great. We both started at 238 too! Keep up the good work and kudos!!!

It was the Right Choice for me!!

"I cant wait to get close to my goal like mommy0105! Thanks for the inspiration!" - wow thanks tropicaljill! I never thought someone would view me as an inspiration. What a nice thing to say. The truth is, in the past, comments like that usually acted like poison for me. I'd lose some weight, people would notice, compliment, yada yada yada, and subconsciously I guess I felt the need to reward myself (always with food!) and before you knew it, it was all back and then some! This time seems so different though. Encouraging words motivate me to get to the gym when I'm spent. They motivate me to choose grapes as a snack instead of Cookies. I tell you, I fully expected the band to limit the quantity of food I was able to eat, but I did not expect to have it change my whole outlook. My husband jokes that my surgeon must have implanted some sort of regulator chip inside me - He's never seen me so determined. Once again I say, I am so glad I did it! I can't wait to reach goal. I've never been so motivated - and much of it comes from the wonderful people on this forum.
