    Airplane and Scuba stories please

I have flown to West Africa twice from the West Coast and have eaten meals on the plane and had no problems during or after the flight. I have, however, heard of other people who have problems with being tight for a day or two after flying long distances. My Dr. suggests I get unfilled for my long trips to Africa in case of an emergency, but I don't.

Port Worked its Way OUT of my Body

Where do you live? You may need to have the roommate move out for awhile until you can get on your state's health plan. That sounds horrible and very serious. I can't believe they didn't just get it out of you while you were at the hospital.

    Stress and Band Tightness

I was told that the average lapband patient loses about 60% of their excess weight. Perhaps you did better than average! At least you are maintaining that tremendous loss and must feel a ton better. You have done very well.
  5. Maybe your Dr is worried you may need another surgery soon and he would not want you to have a fill before that. He might want you to be well first.
  6. Yeah, so where do you think your inch went?? I'm thinking maybe the spinal disease but who knows maybe I was always 5'8!! I know I was really bummed since that makes the BMI higher and of course we all want to be "normal"!! I'll be normal with those last 8 pounds, but right now it seems like my body wants to hold on to every ounce!
  7. I'm 5'8" (sure I was once 5'9"!!) and now weigh 171 size 8 or 10 on the bottom, bigger on top. I would like to lose 8-10 more pounds. I think the remainder will be loose skin. I really never weighed under 170 anyway even in my late teens and early 20's.
  8. If you are maintaining right after quitting smoking, you are doing great........better than great!!!!!!!!! Get past all the changes your body is going through from that and just try to keep on maintaining. When you quit smoking your metabolism slows down a lot for awhile. You will start losing again especially if you still exercise. Congratulations on quitting!

    dieting while on lapband?

If we didn't change the way we eat, we wouldn't lose weight either!!
  10. I have never felt I looked as fat as I was!! Now I look back at pictures (which I did avoid) and see even when I was in between my weight now and my highest, I looked a whole lot heavier than I felt I looked. It's very weird. It's like I had my own magical miracle mirror in my mind. Some days it didn't work, but often it did! Now, I look great in my mirror and really surprise myself!!! And those pictures are horrifying, but at least I never had a really terrible body image, except as an adolescent, which is good because I have always been overweight or obese.

    Body Function ?

If only I ever had that problem.........even nearly one year later I'd probably rejoice!!! I'm sure it's as troublesome as constipation though, well probably not quite as bad!!

    No protein?

I had to do protein shakes first day home. All Dr's are different in their directions.
  13. Your hair should not be thinning. Make sure you are getting lots of protein. Drink protein shakes and add Peanut Butter, whatever you have to in order to get them down plus the PB adds some oils which are important to keep your hair. I ate peanut butter throughout and never lost any hair. Also make sure you take Biotin along with your multi and B-complex. You are going to be hungry until you heal and get a fill. You probably won't be able to eat that toast once you get a fill. In the meantime, try to focus on protein foods like eggs, tuna, chicken salad as they keep you full and are what your body need for healing. Stay away from bread and other carbs if you can. I ate Cookies a couple times before my first fill (quite a few!!) so I know how it is! 10 pounds is great really!!

    What am I doing wrong?

You definitely need to stay on liquids only a couple of days. Then try eating soft foods and if they do not go down easily go back for a slight unfill.
  15. Have you had your one year EGD to have your band checked out? If not, it would probably be a good idea to have it done now. Good luck to you. I'm about due for mine, but I'm self pay and wondering where I'll get the money since I've had a ton of unexpected medical bills this yr.
  16. The only thing that helped me was being aware of chewing my food like 30 times or more before swallowing, especially meat and poultry. This is the only practicing that helped. You will learn very fast to take small bites and eat slow through conditioning out of necessity. When I was unfilled for a few weeks for surgery, it was amazing how quickly I found myself eating faster and taking larger bites again!! That changed back immediately when I got a fill.
  17. 5 pounds in a month is on track. 1-2 pounds a week is a good weight loss and about what is expected. It does add up too so hang in there!

    Sex???

No!!!!!! My message was too short, but no was sufficient!
  19. I have severe arthritis and my pain management Dr prescribes 800 mg motrin twice daily. My surgeon says it's fine to take them. I have asked him probably 5 times now!! However, I only take them when I feel I must, usually when it's really damp. Thankfully I live in the desert. I am cautious due to all the responses I have read on this board from what other surgeons say!!
  20. You look marvelous!! Doesn't it feel good?
  21. You might be surprised. I thought it would take me at least a year and a half to lose the 70 pounds I wanted to lose and I have lost 75 in 11 months and found it quite effortless......and I'm 55!! I hope you find it easy as well.
  22. Please update my weight to 171. Thanks!
  23. I have to disagree. It's much more than calories in, calories out. What those calories consist of also play a huge part in how successful your weight loss will be.
