  1. That's true. I don't have any cysts, or at least none they could find with a pelvic exam. Of course, I live in a small town, so they didn't have access to a vaginal ultrasound machine.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

I found this discussion on a blog, and I think it fits into our discussion very well.

    Epidural?

Has anyone gotten an epidural instead of general anesthesia during lap-band surgery?

    Anti-Semitism In France!

An interesting site titled "Did a Historical Jesus Exist". If you can't prove the man existed, you can't prove he fulfilled prophecies.

Well, why don't you make your point, then? An interesting link for the debate about the age of Earth.

A reference to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, yes? From http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-misconceptions.html, which I referred to earlier.
  7. How about this for a suggestion: We get our noses out of everyone's business. Most terrorists don't hate us because we're free, they hate us because we meddle. If we stop meddling, who knows, they might leave us alone. If we were doing this for democracy, we would be supporting ALL democratically chosen leaders, not just the ones we like.

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

To be quite honest, I have a problem with someone saying that we shouldn't believe in something if it isn't proven, and then believing in something that isn't proven. To me, something has been proven to be a fact when the preponderance of evidence supports it. For example, smoking causes lung cancer. Do all smokers get lung cancer or has the cancer of all people with lung cancer been caused by smoke? No. But that doesn't mean it doesn't cause it.

Okay, can we just agree to disagree? Neither one of us is getting anywhere. We can go 'round and 'round with this forever.

    Epidural?

I am worried about effects of anesthesia, since bad reactions run in my family. My mom suggested that they might do an epidural if I asked, so I thought I would see if anyone else had had one.
  11. Or how about this: The National Park Service could have been fully funded at current levels for the next 250 years with the amount of money we have spent on Iraq.

Just because I thought you guys might be interested, here is an interview with Richard Dawkins, the author of The God Delusion. He makes some interesting points. http://richarddawkins.net/article,542,Atheist-Richard-Dawkins-on-The-God-Delusion,Terrence-McNally-AlterNet

I wouldn't necessarily say that. I wasn't exposed to evolution at all until I got to college. My high school biology teacher flatly refused to teach it. I personally think that most people don't know what evolution really is. They have heard what their pastors say and what people who have a very basic knowledge say, but they have never really learned evolution. Most people still think evolution = monkey theory.

    French Onion Soup?

This is great! French onion soup is my absolute favorite soup! I'm tickled pink that I'll actually be able to eat my favorite food after banding.
  16. I DREAM of the days when all I had to do was pluck. Unfortunately, it got to the point where I was spending literally HOURS plucking every night, so I finally gave up and started shaving. I use proactiv, and it does help, to an extent. Of course, birth control helped the most, but I can't take it for 30 days before surgery, so I am off of it for the near future (hoping to have surgery in early March at the latest).

The Biblical Case for Pro-Choice & Stem Cell Research

I think the major reason that a lot of people don't post is that they don't want their views challenged. If they post, it gives people the opportunity to point out that they might not be right, and in some cases, post very convincing evidence that just might change their minds. If they don't post, they can keep on thinking that they are right and that there isn't any evidence out there that would challenge what they have been told. Of course, this isn't true of everyone. Some people truly can't differentiate between having their views challenged and being personally attacked. I personally think that if other people are "offended" by a relatively tame debate, just because they happen to disagree with the majority opinion (or at least the majority of the posters), they shouldn't be reading a thread in the RnR forum. I think discussions like this are interesting because they really make you consider what you believe.

You weren't the only one. I truly regret that I sank to his level.:speechles
  20. It really is, the more I think about it. I can just see Bush spotting a hornet's nest hanging from a tree, saying, "That thang's DAIN-GEE-RUS, gotta git it down before it falls on someone's head!" Then he starts swatting at it with a stick and it falls and swarms of angry hornets come out. I can imagine him running around squalling, "Daddy, Daddy, help me!" with a layer of angry hornets on him and a trail of them swarming after him. Yep, the hornet's nest won't fall on anyone'e head anymore, but God help the people who Bush runs past.
  21. Do you truly see the mess in Iraq as a "swat upside the head" to Saddam? It seems more like we are "swatting" the poor kids the "bad dog" bit. If anything, we "swatted" a hornet's nest, and now we are being swarmed.

    The (Living) Death Penalty

Carlene's article really makes me wonder how many people have died in prison (either naturally, killed by other inmates, or by the death penalty) because their requests for additional DNA testing was never approved, or died before DNA testing was available. It took that guy 18 years to be exonerated after he started requesting DNA testing. Can you imagine what happened to him in prison because he was convicted for raping a boy? If I were him, I'd be suing everyone for all they were worth. I highly doubt most DAs are eager to give additional DNA testing to any inmate that asks. I may be cynical, but I think most of them would look after their reputations first. They aren't eager for inmates they convicted to be proven innocent.
  23. I forgot to add in my last post that I also have bad acne. I only found out I had PCOS after I had been on Accutane for 6 months. If you don't know, Accutane is a very serious acne drug that is super expensive (1st month cost me $1200 out of pocket) and has a lot of really bad possible side effects, like liver damage, suicide attempts, etc. It is usually only used as the very last resort. Unfortunately, the Accutane didn't work, other than getting rid of the worst of my cystic acne. I even had to take antibiotics while I was on it, since I would have flair-ups that the Accutane couldn't handle. I hadn't been seeing a gynecologist beforehand, and I started seeing one when I missed 3 periods in a row, about 6 months after I stopped taking the Accutane. You have no idea how pissed off I was at the doctor who prescribed it to me for failing to diagnose me with PCOS, since my OB/GYN later told me that standard procedure for someone who fails to respond to Accutane is to check for metabolic and hormone problems.
  24. I do. I can't even wear make-up because it is all melted off in an hour or two.
