  1. Jena, Welcome to the lapband board from Texas. Please don't get discourged. I kind of felt the same way after reading some of the complications and that was the message someone sent me. The complications are a very small precentage of all the people that have a lapband. I am two months out and haven'nt had any problems at all. My weight is falling wonderfully and I would do in again in a heartbeat. Don't know anything about your other questions as my insurance covered mine here in Houston, but we have lots of people that have had it done in Mexico and the states that are self pay so I am sure you will get your answers. Good luck to you.:o

  2. A big Texas Welcome to you Scott. We were all nervous so you are'nt alone on that. Good luck on your doctor visit. Sorry about the insurance problem. You will love your band and it is really a wonderful tool to help us get this weight off. My surgery went perfect with no problems at all, pray yours does also. Keep us posted.:)

  3. Congrats on your surgery date. Absolutely no regrets on surgery. The lap band is the best thing since sliced bread, which I don't eat anymore and don't miss it. If you work with your band and follow doctors directions the weight will fall off.The only bad thing I can say about lapband is They did'nt have it when I was your age. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The best of luck to you.

  4. Welcome to lapband Vicki. As far as the shoulder pain, mine finally went away after about four weeks. Sure hurts does'nt it. The only releif I got was a heating pad. As you being able to eat anything you need to learn now what to eat and how before you get your fill. I think I probably could have eaten anthing but I did'nt. You will have to learn to work with your band. I am about six weeks out and just had my first fill. I thought I was eating slow enough and small enough bites but I found out in a hurry that I was'nt. Thought I was filled to much but I just slowed down and everything is fine. Good luck to you.:)

  5. Margo,I had to laugh a little for this happened to me on Sunday morn.

We had been to Galveston for the weekend and was headed home and stopped for Breakfast, not sure if I could eat a scrambled egg after having fill last week. But anyway there were five women sitting by us with plates loaded yes and waffles and pancakes also. I got about five small bites down and I thought dammit but after we left I was fine and so happy my fill was working for me.Hang :) in there you have done so good, I think we probably all have these feelings at times.

  6. Hi Em, Welcome to lapband and congradulations on getting your surgery.:clap2: I am almost seven weeks out and had no complications with surgery.

I eat white chicken, fish. ground beef and pork loin and ribs so far and a couple of bites of good steak. Everyone is different. I stay away from pastas and bread and rice to help me loose better and no sweets at all.

The band is to help you and to let you learn how to eat healthy. Not to say I will never have any sweets but I just choose not to right now.The best of luck to you.

  7. Myra, I remember how I felt when my doctors office called me with my date. It's a wonderful and exciting feeling. I am going on seven weeks out and loving every day of my band. Just got my first fill yesterday. Hope you have as good of luck as I did. Let us know if you have any questions that we may be able to help you with. This board was wonderful for me and still is.:)

  8. Dr. Speigel did my surgery on 5-25. He has been wonderful to me. I know I have read a lot of negative things about him but I personally don't have anything bad to say about him. His office staff have always been super nice to me and so what if he is out to make money so is my hubby. His wanting to make money has not interfered with my surgery or weight loss at all. If you choose him for a doctor I think you will be very happy. No he does not talk a lot but he will sure answer any questions that you may have. Good luck to all.:)

  9. I am 62 and would'nt take for my lap band. I needed to loose 70 pounds and now its only 50 so I will do pictures when I am finished. Out 1 month tomorrow.I can really tell it in my tummy, face and clothes. I have gotten rid of 20 inches also. I love that also. Tell them to go for it. I just wish this had been around a long time ago. I did'nt even hear about it until

Dec. 05. Just got tired of fighting it so hard.:)

  10. Welcome from Texas to you all. You will love this site and your band. I will be a month out tomorrow and have dropped 19 pounds and 20 inches. Can't believe it will be a month. My surgery went very smoothly in and out in about four hours. I am sorry about you not knowing about the shoulder gas pain. Mine has finally all went away. Best of luck to you all. If I can help you further just PM me.:)

  11. One Sunday afternoon this old man and woman decided to make some homemade ice cream with an old hand turn maker. The old woman decided to go sit on the front porch. After a while she hollered to the old man and said Pa is it hard yet? He said about as hard as my old pecker. She said then pour me a cup of it.
