  1. It never hits you that you are normal size, at least for me. I sit and still feel I am overweight, then I catch myself in a restaurant window as I walk by and see how I really look. I'm tiny on the outside, but still that "made fun of, shy girl" on the inside. The reality is....every time I look in the mirror at myself, I am always surprised that people see ME as "normal".

    Lonnielove, lapbandtalk is a community of soon-to-be, hoping-to-be and lapbanded people who come together to share experiences on their lapband journey. At the same time, this particular thread is in a section geared towards any "off the wall" topic.

    As we all have something in common, we don't always want to just talk about lapband issues..


  3. Hello everyone! This thread was a good idea.

    I was lapbanded 4/11/2006 and...oh wow, this april will be my 4th year. Unbelieveable!

    Anyway....I am 5ft 2inches in stature, started at 240lbs and now 123lbs. I lost 95% of my weight within the first 10 months. The lapband has been a great tool in assisting me with food portions, but the pavement, the gym, my mountain bike, coupled with the lapband, ultimately got my weight off and have kept it off for almost 4 years now.

    I've had reconstructive surgeries in Mexico - a TT and Breast Augmentation as I was disproportionate after the weight reduction. I have also had a port replacement as it became leaky.

    I am here for anyone that needs info, has questions about the "journey" and just needs some guidance. I've most likely been there and done that.

  4. :sad:don't know where to add this but I'm having aproblem and could use a little help . Had a fill last week in april working great then last week felt funny taste in mouth and next day vey little restriction anyone ever had this problem? I was banded in april 2008 lost my insurance when husband lost job in june of 2008 went to fill center as soon as I could afford to do so . I'm so anxious to make this work please help Thanks

    I'm no expert but from reading your post, I had a similar symptom when my tubing became pierced.......I had a weird taste, normal saline, (NA Saline) leaked through the tubing and sent the taste.


  5. I remember you, Telly. Congrats!!! And congrats to all the other ladies!! These are exciting times.

    As for me, I am staying put with my fill unless my body tells me otherwise (which it hasn't because I've been eating A LOT). I know my doc has a policy of immediately unfilling all pregnant women, so I've deliberately decided not to go into his office unless I need to. :wink2:

    People have really strong opinions on what "all pregnant women should do" but I think you just have to listen to your body and decide what's best for you and baby. If you're not getting enough food or you can't eat without getting sick, I would unfil. If you can get good nutrition, stay put. That's going to be my m.o. from now on (hopefully, that approach will work).

    Thank you "Kiss" and your response is exactly what I needed to read. I agree with you and have been feeling this way since I've found out. As long as I get good nutrition in, I don't want to get an unfill until it's too tight. I want to continue to regulate my intake without undereating for 2 now, but I will talk with my doctor.

    It's interesting how things change overnight.


  6. I just found out a few days ago that I'm pregnant, add me to the list!

    I'm at goal 119lbs from 240lbs. It's coming to me as a surprise....and unexpected.

    I'm curious about adjusting my fill during this time. I am reading that you ladies only unfill when you are experiencing tightness, which makes great sense. I don't want to get crazy and completely unfill now.

    Keep a food journal and definately try to be as accurate as possible and count those calories. Hop on the treadmill and burn 500 calories and record it and do the math. Will you lose or gain today?


  8. This past Thursday, 4 days ago when I went in to get what was hopefully my last fill, I had restriction but not a whole lot... I left with a broken/leaky port.

    Thursday, after pulling out 3.8cc's and putting in 4.5 cc's with no restriction, I was sent home to see how it felt overnight. Friday, the next day I returned where 2.3cc's was pulled out from a 4.5cc fill. Ok so the port had some saline in it still but not what was put in. So she filled me up to 5cc's with a 5cc band and I waited around. Walked around and drank my Water and ..bam. Nothing. No trickling feeling, no restriction at all.

    She removed all 4cc's (she put in 5.0 and only 4 came out within the 30min I walked around). She then reinjected me with 5cc's from a new syringe.....no restriction. She pulled out the needle and told me that there definately is a leak.

    It was assumed that the Nurse must have either punctured my tubing or dislodged my port/tubing (port is moving around a bit now) because my port still had a little saline in it.

    Needless to say my port site is very painful and swollen from about 20 sticks. I have placed a call to Dr. Rumbaut's office. They have not returned the call yet.

    I will keep you guys informed.

  9. Potassium works well for midnight charley horses. Also, i I have found that when I am bending at the knees where my buttocks nearly touches the floor when I am cleaning (for example) that very night, 9 times out of 10...I get the charley horses. If I am cutting off some circulation in the back of my legs by performing squats, I get the charley horses that same night so check that out and see if you're doing that.

  10. I'm having sugery in 12 days.

    Me and my mom had lunch today and I asked her why hasn't she said anything about my sugery.

    She said she doesn't approve of it so why be supportive?

    Than she said why are you doing this?

    I can't believe she asked that question.

    I have been heavy most of my life.

    I've lost weight 50 to 70 pounds 4-5 times.

    My first attempt was a bulemic episode at age 11.

    It only lasted for a week.

    I saw it on an afterschool special.

    Than at 17 I lost 66 pounds going from 189 to 123.

    Excercising and starving myself to death!

    I refused to be fat for my senior year and prom.

    I got pregnant at 20,married and was 172 and gained 80 pounds behind that.

    Birth control,three month shot bloated me right back up!

    Got a divorce by the way my ex hated fat women.

    His treament toward me is a whole different cruel story.

    At 23 I did advocare and went from 248 to 163 with taebo.excercise.

    That at age 27 I went from 252 to 196 on phentermine and excercise.

    Than la weightloss for 10 pounds but I was allergic to the pills.

    Than I went back up to 242 due to steroids for excema,asthma,and severe allergies .

    Than I went to 218 again back on phentermine and excercise.

    Now I am back to 244 and frustrated!

    I have been on steroids 40 percent of my life!

    Anyways I told her I was tired and this is my last attempt.

    So she's like well that's your decision but I dont have to support it.

    I really wanted to call her out of her name.

    My mother has always been jealous of me success and talent wise.

    When I lost those 66 pounds in highschool at a size 6 she still called me a fat bitch when she got angry.

    If I asked her did she cook(when I was a size 6 in highschool) she would go in the fridge and pull the food out and throw it on the floor and tell me she is not a maid get it my damn self.

    Honestly I think she has been part of my emotional battle with food.< /p>

    I dont blame her for my obesity but she is not the nicest or most supportive yet I luv her dearly.

    Whenever I accomplish something she praises me sometimes but is jealous secretly.

    Thank God for a few friends because my family is not there for me on this decision!

    I really need to be the person I know I can be!

    I'm happy that you vented. I'm proud of you though I don't know you, for making this very important decision for yourself. That being said, you do not need approval from anyone else but you.

    You can do this b/c you've proven that you have the drive and the determination to do it, but this time, you will be able to control things b/c you'll be equipped with that extra tool, the band.

    Your life will change during this process. Men (if there isn't already one in the picture) will come and go. You will feel shallowness from them as you begin to get thinner. If you do have a man....he will go through this too, in a very big way. People are not apt to change and are not always accepting to changes. Friends will either be supportive or non-supportive. I hope you will be able to recognize changes in everyone around you as you change, whether good or bad.

    Remember that YOU have made this decision and no one else. When you start to lose a majority of your weight, YOU will see others in a different light. You will see dining out in a different light, eating around others will be different. My point being..... this is a new adventure you are embarking on and it's up to you to make it something incredible.

    I wish you much success. You already have the drive.
