    Roof of Mouth

I had 13 tubes of blood taken for an entire workup of everything including nutrition and Vitamin D.... all was normal. My thyroid is going wack since being banded....but don't think this is the reason for the inflammation of the roof of the mouth.

    What's the point?

That is the point exactly! The lapband will force reduction in the amount of food someone consumes- PERIOD. And it can be done without exercise. There are many who can simply stop eating so much and do just fine. But thank goodness someone invented the lapband to help me do it.

    Lap Band in 14 days

Expect that this time....it will work. The lapband will work if you let it. And expect that this will be the last time you will ever 'diet'. And expect that you will never spend another dollar on a weight loss program, diet pills, slim fast, books, etc. Congrats! Listen really well and take notes when your doc (or nurse) goes over the liquid diet.... many just assume it's a 'diet' but often times (not always though so many will say their doc had them on restricted calories during this time) you can have a regular liquid diet. I had milkshakes, chocolate milk, Soups (nothing chunky at all), puddings, etc. Wasn't bad at all. But if your doc says you have to be on a broth diet.....I'm sure other's will chime in and give you some ideas. The only thing I can think of for the broth diet is cook it with steak or vegetables and then drain well before you drink it. Good luck!

    Emergency Surgery

Bless your heart! So it was the port....gosh. Come back and update us in a week or so......is everything 'normal' now? So glad you stood up for yourself because you KNEW something wasn't right.

    Sipping????

My doc says it's important to sip on fluids all day...this would benefit anyone, not just those dieting, or bariatric patients. If you can drink normally- go for it. I wish I could sometimes. I'm a natural gulper and can down a 16 ounce drink in less than a minute. But with the band it would just go in, linger a second and then spew. Because I have such a hard time drinking normally (instead of gulping) I have to use a straw. Been on the straw for 2 years now and probably will be for at least another year.

    Food Nightmares?

That's funny! Thanks for sharing your dream. Before you go to bed maybe you could just say to yourself that there are no "off limit" foods with the lapband. Having a Dr. Pepper isn't bad - don't do it everyday...but every once in a while isn't going to hurt anything. But I've had some weird dreams about the band. Others have posted they fear a slip or other damage so much that it enters their dreams. I've worried about malnutrition and have had dreams that my teeth would come out.
  7. Eat is what I say. Those who get the band have usually failed time and time and time and time again at dieting. So it's no wonder you would eat a whole pizza if you have no restriction. This isn't rocket science. Just do what you can to modify your behavior and do rely on the band to help you lose weight. One day....and soon you will have 3 bites of pizza and be full.

    Liquid diet is SOOO hard!

Good news, you should not be dieting....but healing. My doc allowed milkshakes, puddings....anything that is liquid or plasma like.

    Pizza

Are you hurting? If not, it's no big deal. pizza is not a bad food...if it's prepared correctly or you only eat one, yes one slice.

    Frustrated with my self

When I can't cook, and know it in advance...I shop better. Fruits galore and Lean Cuisine/ WW meals. sugar free ice cream....cheese and crackers, deli meats. PB and J...that kind of thing.
  11. I will share what I found to work ....I'm sharing experience so please everyone- don't flame me.... eat a Krispy Kreme doughnut with a CocoCola This worked for me each and every time plus it has worked for two other people I know. They didn't do this exactly but had cake or something instead of the doughnut.

    Food Obsession

For me, I've learned to embrace the obsession. It's pretty bad when you are relocating and you narrow your choices...but then you select the winner by the place with the most bountiful food- yes, Vegas was it-land of buffets. That's how bad my obsession is. Or should I say....'was'. Because I embraced it, it became less important. I wasn't denying myself anything...the only restriction was how much I ate...not what I ate. But I developed a taste for cooking and healthier foods. And from time to time I will eat something sweet, but just a small portion. food has become a life sustainer now...instead of a medicine.

    Latest Fill...

That's really neat you recognized all that was happening. So many of us just go at this on a whim- meaning we just go for fills until we start losing weight. I was doing fine, like you, but ....this time last year I was 138 and thought it was DONE. But over the past few months I've started losing weight, without wanting to. I'm now 129.... I think I'm going back for an adjustment to get a cc taken out.

    need my head examined!

I'm with some of the other posters.....adding... the lapband is to reduce the amount of food you intake. During this time you modify your lifestyle. But to have a goal where you will NOT EVER eat at the world's largest restaurant chain...that's unrealistic. Unless you never eat there anyways. I eat fast foods. Yesterday I had a banana split from Sonic....it was a junior size but still, it was good!

    being accused of cheating

Wish I could have been there! You go! Many have noticed my weightloss...I moved after reaching goal but I've continued to lose weight. My response to why I'm losing weight is: I don't eat as much as I used to. Since I don't share my dental fillings, root canal, migraines, and other ailments or health care with people...I'm surely not going to share a gastric band.

3 weeks post op and so depressed

You've lost about 10 pounds within the first 3 weeks???? And you are down about it? What if you haven't lost any? Then 6 weeks later you go for an adjustment and you still don't lose any...not even an ounce. Then 4 weeks later still you go in for another adjustment. Then 2 days later you lost 1 pound. What then? And yes, that's my story. So congratulations, you beat many of us!

    Nervous

When I read your post it reminded me of when I was being banded almost 2 years ago. Nervous, yes. But EXCITED!!!!! and I am so certain you are just giggly (or is that giggle y) inside. You've steped up, taken action, spent alot of time and energy into achieving something and now.....now it's finally happening! Congratulations! Come back and post on how your surgery went.

    Cruise day is here

Have fun and post pictures! I'd love to go back on a cruise. The last one was pre-op. Yep, I took the kids on a 3 day cruise to Mexico so I could start my liquid diet. We had a blast, I think...I was so lethargic from not being able to binge I think I slept alot. But the ice cream, hot chocolate, and Soups were the best! When we departed the ship, we got in the car and headed to Tijuana...got banded later that day. Whew, that was about 2 years ago.

Help! 3 fills and no change!!

Get another adjustment was going to be my advice but I see you are doing that. Come back to this thread to update us.... did you feel any restriction after leaving the office? did it kick in a day or so later? ....that kind of thing. Good luck and hang in there!

    Soda

kris82, sadly I haven't overcome my soda pop addiction. My primary care doctor has said that the band is for reduction in food- period. And by this patients lose weight. However, that said, it's also a great time for a patient to overcome bad habits, poor choices, change a lifestyle. But there are a few of us that have more obstacles than others and comparatively let's say 2 patients all else being equal they overcome 7 key points/functions during their weightloss. But what if one of the patients had 4 more that the other patient doesn't have....... that's me. My doc said after all I've been thru and soda pop (and one other thing) is my only downfall- I should be happy. But I'm still working on it! The members on here have been wonderful with tips and tricks to cut out the soda- just hasn't worked for me.

    Changing Goals...

    Wow! Doing great!
  24. The idea for the lapband came from the scriptures... if it offends thee, cut it off Don't know where that is....but it's in the scriptures somewhere.
