  1. Hi Everyone!

Well, I did it! I'm finally banded...was back home yesterday....feeling sore, lots of gas but its doable! I too am only using Tylenol for pain....its manageable so I don't want to use the strong stuff! Not really hungry for anything....really trying to drink my Water, but even that is going very slowly!

Glad to hear from everyone....sounds like we are all doing well, aside from the gas and soreness which is to be expected...its all a process and its going to take some time, but we will all get through this...hopefully the worst is behind us and now we can begin our new lives!

I do have a question....due to the surgery and all the fluids being pumped into us and the gas, has anyone gotten on the scale and GAINED weight? I got on this morning because I'm so swollen I knew I would be heavier....wanted to see how much...it says I gained 6 pounds! Anyone else experience this? I know its all Fluid and gas, but STILL!!!!!

Good luck to ALL of us! And to those whose surgeries are coming up, you will be JUST FINE!!! It really isn't that bad, at least it wasn't for me! Sending

Yes! That happened to me too! I got on the scale when I got home and gained 5 lbs. Each day I would lose a little more. Now its day 4 post op and I am back to my start weight. I still have gas/and pains but I am getting better. Good luck to you!~

  2. Well I did it! I was banded on the 17th. The surgery went great and the hospital stay was about as good as staying in the hospital overnight can be. I haven't had a lot of pain associated with the operation, I've only had to take the liquid hydrocodone they gave me twice all week (which is a good thing...narcotic pain killers make me loopy!) My problem has been with GAS! I feel like my abdomen is going to explode. I get gas when i eat and when I don't. I keep hoping it is from when the expanded my abdomen during surgery, but it has been 4 days of cramping and crying. I have tried walking, rocking, curling up in a ball (and crying for my mommy!), liquid gas drops, Gas-x strips (which did nothing for me, except give me minty fresh breath!) I hope in time it will resolve, no amount of weight loss is worth being in pain and miserable. Still, I know I made the right choice having the surgery.:cool2:

I had my surgery the day after you and I too am having LOTS of gas pains. I just keep trying to walk as much as I can and hope that it goes away naturally too. My pain is mostly in my chest and shoulders. It hurts so bad to breathe!!! :smile2: I was told it gets better so I keep hoping for the to happen! :cool2:

Good luck to you! Keep me posted!

  3. Hey, guys! Just had my surgery today. I have to say the recovery room was not as easy as I had hoped from reading the posts. I felt like I was going to throw up, which scared me to death. I ended up dry heaving b/f they gave me some drugs. They didn't help a lot though. I was scared to take Phenergan b/c it would have put me back to sleep. And of course I was practically trying to walk while I was in a coma! :w00t: But I meant I was getting out of there. Oh yeah, the pressure in my abdomen/chest was awful!

Anyway, if you had asked me those two hours right after surgery, I don't know that I would have done it again! However, at 2:00 I took pain med. Slept until 4:00 and felt MUCH better.

Now, I'm very sore and bruised but don't really know when to use pain meds. Did anyone use just Tylenol? I'm also scared of drinking too fast and nothing sounds good to "eat." Would love to hear what drugs others used right after and what "food" helped get rid of this yucky taste. Water is not doing it. Thanks for any input.

Hey There! I had my surgery on Tues. Nov. 18th. I did not have any problems after surgery but my pain has been with the GAS! I have only taken Tylenol Liquid Blast. You can find it at Walmart where all the pain reliever is. It's cherry and does not taste too bad. I just drink water afterwards. I have not had to use it that much because I dont have that much pain in my incisions. Most of my pain/uncomfortableness is Gas pains, which Gas X strips seem to be helping for that! I have not had much of an appetite either. Not that hungry yet but I seem to be taking my popcicles, Protein Shakes, and drinking water fine!

Good luck to you! Take care and rest!

  4. Have no fear! Gas pains were completely gone for me by Day 7, but I'd say by Day 5 they were definitely far enough in the background that I didn't notice them every waking moment. You're almost there, hang in there! :w00t:

Thanks so much! THis is so good to know! Now I have something to looked forward to on Sunday besides mushies!!!

I wish my husband can just squeeze me and help push all this gas out! I dont care which way it comes out just GET OUT!!!! ARRAGH!!!:tt1:

Thanks again! Have a good evening!

  5. Day 1 for me. COuldn't drink the stuff they wanted me to have. So I'm having 2 Slimfast and a lean frozen meal for 800 cals.

I have a headache too, but I also said good bye to my long time friend "Diet Coke" last night.

I said goodbye to my long time friend Dt. Coke too! I thought it was going to be really hard, but it was'nt that bad! Had a headache for a couple of days but otherwise I survived! I replaced my Dt. Coke habit with drinking Crystal Light. It is pretty good stuff!!!

While I was on the pre-op diet I lost 20 pounds! I think it was because I was not drinking lots of Dt. Coke and craving chocolate/sweets/junk food! I had read that drinking dt coke makes you crave sweets but I never thought it was true. I wonder now?

Good luck to you on this new and exciting journey! :)

  6. Lesley

I was banded friday the 14th and I still have gas pains really bad and I cant burp either. The gas x strips did not work for me. I went and bought the chewable tablets today. I seem to be passing the gas better with the tablets. Maybe this will help you as well.

Thanks I will try anything! Day 3 post op and I getting better. Still have the pain in my chest and shoulders but I dealing. Taking it one day at a time.

    Have a good one!

    Lesley

  7. Hey everyone!

I was banded yesterday on Nov, 18th. Everything went well. I am doing good. Dealing with lots of gas pain too! Just walking and trying to help it get out!!! Can't seem to burp for anything! Hopefully my GasX strips starts to help with the pain and bloating. The heating pad does work on my chest and shoulders for the pain, otherwise I am doing pretty good!

Thanks to you all! Good to all!

  8. Hi Everyone!

I had my surgery today at noon. This surgery was not bad at all. I really worried myself to sicknees. For the most part iam doing well. I am really tired but I have No pain in my stomach where the stitches are just all GAS pain! Mostly in my chest and shoulders. Dealing with it but it is diffinately hurts/uncomfortable! Took my gas x strips and waiting for them to kick in. I have been walking as much as I can too. :rolleyes2::tt2::tongue2::wink::lol::wink::lol:

Just wanted to let all know that all went well for me!

Thanks to everyone for the great pre surgery advice and well wishers. Talk to you all soon!

Good luck to whoever is scheduled this week.

  9. Hi all! Just to update you all. I had my surgery on Thursday (13th). Everything went perfectly. As planned I stayed overnight. Incision sites are not painful at all. But--I have had very bad gas pains since surgery. Other than that I am fine. Been sleeping alot and haven't really felt like doing much--but that's to be expected. My surgery was at 1:30 on Thursday and I was released after my Upper GI yesterday. I'm up and walking and the Tylenol 3 with codeine seems to help with the pain and to let me sleep. I also take the Gas X strips--those are definitely a must. I can say that the gas pains are much worse than I expected. I found a perfect description--remember when we were younger and we had to run the mile in gym class --that sharp pain under your rib when you were totally winded and couldn't do anymore? That's the pain...same place. There as well as in my shoulders. But--lots of walking helps. I finally started moving some "gas"...I won't be any more explicit... and that seems to be helping most of all! I hope all are doing well and good luck to us all on our new life journey.

    Hi Crystal525,

I have been hearing alot about these gas X strips. What exactly are these? and where can I get them? My surgery is on Tues. and I just want to be prepared. Thanks for your great advice!

Good luck with your healing process! Keep in touch!

  10. I am so excited to hear these great reports from people in post surgery. Mine is 11/19 and I can't wait. I hope mine goes as well as yours sandy7777. You give me hope. Good luck to all that are having surgery next week. Please get on as soon as you can and share with us. I will do the same.

God bless and talk to you soon.

Bluebird, Good luck with your surgery on the 19th. Mine is on the 18th. I will try and post that evening if I feel up to it. Keep it touch!

  11. I have found lots of individual flavors in The Vitamin Shoppe. They have a lot of different brands. One of the best I've found is the brand Jay Robb. Unfortunately it's really expensive, so I didn't buy anything bigger than a few individual flavors.

My husband (who is big into weight lifting and body building) swears by the Optimum Nutrition brand, and we've got the vanilla Ice Cream, Rocky Road, and strawberry flavors. They are 120cals and 25g Protein per serving. :wink2:

Thanks so much for these suggestions! I will try these flavors. I appreciate your help!

  12. They have individual servings you can buy for like $1 each, so you can taste each of their flavors without buying a big thing of it. I bought one of each flavor and in all honesty, I didn't really like them that much. They're OK, but I've found better Protein powders with many more yummy flavors.

If you have some other suggestions please let me know. I would like to try other brands/flavors. So far I have been taking the Atkins advantage and they are good. Thanks for your help!

  13. This liquid pre op diet is killing me! its so much harder than i expected. Surgery is on the 21st. I just cant wait!

I am on a pre-op diet too! Mine is not too bad! Not great! But bearable! My surgery is on Nov. 18th. Just a few days to go. Do you drink Protein Shakes? If so I have a great tip that was given to me by another wise bander!

I have to drink two Protein shakes daily. Was not thrilled about that but it has not been too bad. I buy the Atkins advantage shakes, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate. With the vanilla shakes blend about 5 ice cubes with one packet of orange flavored crystal light. This is SO YUMMY!!! Tastes just like a orange julias. very good and very feeling!

    Hopefully this helps.

    Good luck!

  14. Started my pre-op diet yesterday. I was starved!!! Today is not too bad. I am just learning that I can't snack all the time like before.

My pre-op diet is Protein Shake for Breakfast & lunch and a WW, lean cuisine frozen dinnner. broth & sugar free Jello and popicles all I want.

The Protein Shakes or ok! Just ok! I just had the Atkins strawberrry shakes today mixed with fresh bananas and strawberries and it was really good. Quite yummy!!! I drank the slim fast high Protein shakes yesterday and they have a bad after taste but not too bad! I think this will be ok. I was really stressing out about this but now I think it is going to be ok.

    Thanks!

    Surgery date: 11/18/08

  15. Hey Monika!

I think most of us are going through this in some form or another. There is always someone in your life that you really care about that just does not understand the reasoning behind doing the lapband. I have been kind of getting the same reaction from my best friend too. I talk with her about everything and she just does not seem to be supportive or happy for me. I finally sit her down and talked with her about the whole procedure and really educated her about the lapband and why I was doing this surgery. I think she finally understood. In some ways I think that maybe she is unsure of how I will be or act if I lose a lot of weight. I just kept reassuring her that I will still be me. Just healthier and less heavier!!!!

    Good luck!

I get banded on Nov. 18th! YIPPEE

  16. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really appreicate your tips/advice! I know this will help me. I did buy the powder whey Protein Shake and will try that first mixed with some fruit but it is good to know that I can use the slim fast too! I had heard that about the smell! and That is what I really am afraid of. Thanks again for the advice. I am sure I will be pestering you on more things as my surgery dates gets closer.
