  1. Basically the ketosis is caused because your diet is carb free.

Your body needs fuel to burn energy and since your not consuming carbs, its starts using the fat for fuel, that's why the drop loss can be so dramatic.

anyways, while burning that fat, the fat contains acetone and that is what STINKS. Short version.

    Good luck

  2. Hey everyone,

I have been on a liquid diet for since Oct-15, was recently banded on 10-29:thumbup:, and have the worst breath... OMG!:)

I understand the ketosis process and all that... but still it's horrible to walk around with your mouthwash everywhere, and not even wanting to speak.

My problem now is I got a white tongue, forget about dead taste buds. I am freaking out a little, is it dangerous, should I contact my Dr.

Anyone out there who's been through this situation?

    Thanks,

    Christina

  3. I forgot to mention I was an existing UCSD patient, so I did not have to provide 6 months of trying.

Afterall everytime I went to the Dr. I never stopped, telling him I was extremely worried about my obesity and scared of diabetes.

As like almost everyone else, I tried everything, yes I did lose a few lbs here and a few lbs there, but it all came back with extra.

  4. Hello everyone,

I too am a Dr. Horgan's patient. I'm so sorry you guys have had a hard time between the insurance and the Dr's Office.

My journey was too easy, I still can't beleive it.

My initial consultation was on Aug-27-08, I arrived just on time and was expecting to waiting a good 20 min. before I was even called, to my surprise they walked me straight in. and YES the consulation seems to take FOREVER, I was fortunate enough to speak to Dr. Horgan and actually have a conversation with him, he is wonderfull, strict but very inspirational.

I was not a case of lose before we can proceed. Mary the nurse practioner, informed me they would immediately submit for approval to my insurance, Athem/BlueCross of California. I was approved within a week. and my surgery was originally scheduled for 3 weeks, I had a rough 1st week with all the test, including a sleep study, barium swallow, and pre-op testing. Then I informed my boss, but she needed to go to China and asked me to postpone my surgery, with Dr. Horgan being on Vacation the closest date was 10-29-08. so here I am 9 days away from surgey, 6 days on the liquid diet, I'm doing pretty good, it's not as hard as I thought it would be, I really don't crave all the carbs at this point.

I hope you have the same experience as me. GOOD LUCK,

PS. Catherine their admin assistant ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, she will help you at any time, and Natalie too. I email them all the time, and they always been very happy to help.

  5. Hi Gracie,

I am in the exact same situation, I have a 14 month old infant that weighs 23 lbs, and my doctor, Dr. Horgan at UCSD, indicated I can NOT lift anything over 8 lbs for six weeks, he says you risk tears that could be very dangerous.

But again talk to you doctor, see what he says, I can tell you, that everyone around here says Dr. Horgan is super strict.

    Good Luck

We will be having surgery the same day...WOW

  6. Hi Hollie,

I just saw you in Dr. Horgan's office on Oct 7th, WOW you look awesome, I recognized your picture.

Everytime I've gone for any appointment, the most I've had to wait is 10 min. I guess I've been lucky so far.

Anyways, I began this entire process on july 7, obtaining my referral to Dr. Horgan from my primary. but had to wait until 08-27 to actually see Dr. Horgan after that my approval from the insurance company took 10 days, and would already have had my surgery, if my employer would had let me take the time off, but due to my employer I had to wait extra time.

At this moment my surgery will be on 10/29, and I am starting my pre-op diet on 10/15. very excited.

anyways, Dr. Horgan and his team have been nothing else but a joy and awesome support team.
