  1. Hi Nancy, I'm so happy for you. I'm doing really really good. I got my first fill this morning, 1cc and I'm going back in 4 weeks. He said he preffers to put salin little by little and I agreed with him. Be sure to drink only your Boost diabetic and your water for your 2 weeks prior your surgery. If you don't they can cancel your surgery right there and I'm sure that's not what you want. Right now Dr. Savoie is almost done all his lapband patients he saw in October. He will do his November patients in August, his December ones in September and so on. I'm planning to start a support group in Bathurst but it won't be before September. I think it's really important. Anyways, if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them. I'm there to help. clempier
  2. Hi Liz, I would call, you have nothing to lose. Mind you, his secretary is not the best one to ask. I remember when I call she told me things that weren't true. I would call the bariatric clinic instead. The no. is: 544-3710 Let me know if they give you any date. I have one of my friend who went in December too and she's wondering like you when they are going to call her. clempier

    Dr. Beausoleil (Moncton N.B.)

Hi to all, I got my band June 3rd in Bathurst and we want to start a support group there. I know you have at least one in Moncton. Is anyone can tell me where is your meeting and at what time. I really would like to be able to go to one of them so it would give me an idea how you fonction. I would really appreciate any information about any support group in Moncton or the area. Thank you, clempier:smile2:
  4. Hi Liz, What I heard is Dr. Savoie is almost done the ones he saw in October and he will start the November ones soon. He's coming back from his vacation on the 20th. I got my band June 3rd with Dr. Savoie. I actually was the first one to have it in Bathurst and I don't regret for a bit my decison and I would do it all over again. Right now, I'm waiting to see Dr. Savoie on the 20th for my first fill and I'm looking forward to it because right now I'm not losing but I'm not gaining either (that's a good thing though). Can you see the light at the end of your tunnel? It's coming for you and you're going to be so happy. We're also planning on having a support group in Bathurst. I'll let you know as soon as I know the details. It won't be before September. clempier
  5. Hi Nancy, I'm so happy for you. When you can see a light at the end of the tunnel it's wonderful. I didn't even regret 1 minute of my decision to have the lap band surgery. I would do it again at this instant. It's coming  clempier
  6. Hi Shipp9727, I did the same thing, I ate what I liked best before my 2 weeks on Boost. The only thing that bothers me and it is still weird for me is I have to wait 15 minutes after I drank to eat and the 2 hours period after I ate. I was a big drinker of pop and I thought it would be the thing I would of have problems with but it's not the case. I haven't had pop since May 19th and I don't miss that. I agree with you, you're the only one who can do something for your health. I tell myself that I have to love myself enough to do the right thing and having the lapband is the best decision I ever took. Hope to hear from you again. clempier
  7. Hi Corliss,

I hope everything is fine with you. I was banded June 3rd, 2009. I lost 30 pounds so far and I have way more to lose.

If you don't mind me asking about your plastic surgery. Some people say that a surgery on the arms is not always a good idea. I pretty sure after losing the weight I will have to decide about a surgery on my arms. Are you happy with the results of your surgery? does the scars show much? Did it hurt much? Thank you for reading my message.

Hi Cheri, Thank you for responding to my post. It kind of funny, I'm also a teacher (a ressource teacher) and I also went ot OA meetings and I'm pretty sure I have ADD. I went to your blog and read it. I never put overeating and ADD or ADHD together. I'm going to try to get more information about that on the web. If you ever have any sites that would help, I would appreciate if you'd let me know. Right now I'm on vacation at my Mom's and I weight my meals most of the time even if sometime I go a bit overboard. I'm back using a small plate and smaller bites. I'm also trying to go for my 1 hour walk every day. What also helped me is buying a pair of 1x stretch pants. I wasn't planning on buying a pair of jeans but I realized it was helping me so. I told you I'm a teacher but I'm a french teacher so if you see any mistakes you'll know the reason. I also started to read my bible more and I read Joyce Meyer book "New Day, New you" every morning. God bless you dear sister in Christ, clempier
  9. Hi Shipp9727, Let me tell you, IT'S ALL WORTH IT. Even if right now I'm not gaining weight and I'm not losing weight either. I'm going to have my first fill July 20th and I'm anxious to have it. What help me most is the people around me who were supporting me by doing the same thing. You have to find what would help you the most and let people who cares about you help you or if it's something else go for it. It may be a calendar or maybe put money aside and buy yourself a thing you've been dreaming of for some times now. But just knowing your surgery is coming up and if you don't follow your diet they're going to know and you don't want the surgery to be pospone. So, I encourage you to prepare yourself psychologically. If I did it . . . you can. I'll be back from Saint John on the 15th so do be shy, you can write or call me. clempier

Hi to all, I got banded June 3rd and since the 2 weeks prior my surgery I lost 30 pounds. I was doing great but for a week or two I haven't move much other than a couple of onces. I don't want to get discourage so I thought if I put a thread maybe someone will help me. Mind you I started to walk more. I try to walk for an hour when it's not raining. I'm on vacation right now at my Mom's. I'm suppose to have my first fill July 20th and I can see I'm eating way more than a couple of days ago. Six oz. was enough but now after 2 hours after eating I'm hungry and I don't like that. I read it's normal. I was also wondering if any of you got plastic surgery on your arms? If so, how was the surgery and are you satisfied with the results? I think I just need a boost. clempier:redface:

New to Diabetes and Lap Band

Hi to all, I got band June 3rd and I'm type 2 diabetic for 15 years or so. I thought after my surgery I would be off insulin but I'm not. I take way less insulin than before. I take humalog 3 times a day an average of 3 units per meals and Levemir at nights (20 units). On top of that I take Metformin 2 pills twice a day. I read that if you've been on insulin more than 6 or 7 years you're chance on being off insulin is slim. I read that after my surgery. Mind you, I would of had the surgery no matter what but I would like to have your input on that matter. Is there any of you that are diabetic for many years, got the surgery and was able to get off insulin? If so, are you taking any meds? I'm the first patient to have that surgery in Bathurst Hospital, in New-Brunswick Canada. I'm suppose to go for my first fill July 20th. I'm anxious to hear from you, clempier:huh2:
  12. Hi to all again, Something that will probably interest you I'm sure. If you go to www.weightview.com, you put a picture of you now and you say how many pounds you want to lose and they take you're picture and transform it to what you could look like when you reach your goal. Pretty cool, I did it. You may have a hard time if you're not into computer much, like me. My sister helped me. Pretty cool. My sister then put what I look like now and what I'll hopefully look like after and she put both on the same page and I'm planning to print it and put it on my fridge, my bedroom everywhere it can help me. Try it !!! clempier
  13. Hi happygirl9, No, I haven't head anything about how many patient he's done so far.
  14. Hi to all, I'm on vacation right now and I'm loving it. Even if the sun seems to be shy to show up. I'm feeling really good. All the incisions healed well and it's a good thing when you're diabetic like me. Now I can eat more things. The thing I have a hard time with is not having any liquid during the meals and the two hours waiting period after each meal. I never realized before my ways of drinking. Right now, what I do because I'm on vacation is having my cofee or my tea 15 minutes before my meal then I eat. I don't know what I'm going to do when I'll start to work. We'll see. I really have to cut my meat in small pieces and what helps is if you mix it with gravy or something like that. When you feel you had enough, STOP even if your eyes says otherwise. It's like learning to eat all over again. The max. you can eat is 8oz and maybe even less sometimes. It depends what you eat. You have to think nutritional food if you want to have all the vitamins you need. You also have to do exercices. Right now, I walk because if you don't you won't lose weight or way less than what you're expecting and even then. Exercice and me weren't friend but since I started to walk an hour a day my muscles are taking the place of the fat and even if I weight myself it remains the same. Even if I know that, I find it hard not to lose like when I was doing my 2 weeks with the Boost and the first weeks after the surgery. I lost 30 pounds so far and I'm waiting until my muscles settle down and I start to lose weight again. They say it takes generaly 2 weeks before your muscles expends or get use to the exercice. Once, I ate to much and boys what a bad feeling. I felt nauseated but couldn't throw up, my stomack was hurting . . . not a good idea to try that. I'm suppose to have my first fill July 20th. I'm starting to be hungry at times but I don't. I try not to eat between meals but I have a snack in the evening. I use small plates, bowls and cups now. Everything is small now, small portion, small bites and most important shew a lot. Hope to hear from you, clempier:thumbup:

Hi to all, This morning I was reading "New day New you" from Joyce Meyer and I had in my heart to put it on this site. I'm sure it's going to help someone. Here're what someone gave to Joyce: God's Grace Will See You Through I want you to face the mountain so that you can see, When the mountain is out of the way all there is left is me, Only I can move the mountain, only I can push it away, Only I can conquer the problems that you face today, Your only job is to believe, to listen to My voice, and when you hear what I command, obedience is your choice, But I will not make it too difficult for the victory is already mine, and I will fill you with My Spirit and throught you My grace will shine. Not when you are perfect, like you think you need to be, but when your heart is willing to become more and more like Me. May God bless you all, clempier:thumbup:
  16. Hi Annie & Cindy, Like Keith, I was allowed 4 Boost diabetic every day and Water. Keith is right about the reason why we need to lose weight around our liver. The group we're planning to start won't be before September. The last I've heard from the two other lady who had the surgery the same day as mine was that the second lady came back to see Dr. Savoie. I don't know exactly why. I know she's diabetic and she seemed to be nervous. She said after surgery that she wasn't sure about the surgery if it was a good thing or not. Some of members of her family didn't agree about the surgery and some were saying the opposite. That's why I say how much the support is important and you have to be ready in your head and in your heart that's the right thing to do FOR YOU, no one else. I haven't heard from the other one who was from Fredericton. I'm happy with my surgery and I would do it again. Tomorrow I'm starting my what I call my "blender diet". I'm going to be happy to eat meat even if it's all shread by the blender. Pierrette
  17. Shipp9727, I'm originally from Paquetville and right now I live on St-Pierre Cr. we're so close. As soon as I'm done writting to you, I'm going to see your friend at the Pharmacy. clempier
  18. Hi Shipp9727, That's to funny!! You got me there, I thought you were from the Acadien Peninsula and Shipp meant Shippagan hi! hi!. I will certainly keep you posted. Actually, I leave right next to that little mall. I'm feeling really good. I even went to see Le Cirque du Soleil in Saint John and I already started to take some walks. The important thing is to listen to you body. When I need a snooze I take it and sometime it's a long one. For me the hardiest time was during that 2 weeks on Boost diabetic. You really need all the support you can get either from your co-worker, your family, your friends. If you ever need to talk to someone you can go see your friend at Familiprix and ask her for my phone number. I'll let her know I told you so. . . and don't be shy. clempier
  19. Hi Shipp9727, Yes, I do. May I ask why? Are you the guy who's friend with one of the worker? If so, she told me about you. Just to let you know, we're planning to start a support group for the ones who are planning to have gastric surgeries and the ones who already got it. We're planning to have a French group and an English group too. Maybe you would like to join? The process is started but it won't be before September for sure. clempier
  20. Hi shipp9727, I'm so happy for you, I know how you can feel. If I can give you an advice, do everthing they ask you to do so you won't regret anything. The 2 weeks on Boost diabetic is not always easy but when you know there's something beautiful waiting at the end of the tunnel, it's all worth it. I did it and you feel so proud of yourself after you've done it. I lost 20 pounds during those 2 weeks. After the surgery, you'll still have to eat or I should say drink for 2 weeks but with more variety like juice, shakes, broth, etc. If I was able to do it you can too. If you have any hard times, you can always send me something. The major part here is to have a GOOD SUPPORT GROUP. That really helped me. Good luck and don't be shy I'm here to support you. Tu peux le faire!!! clempier
  21. Hi Happygirl9, With what you told me, I would think you have a big chance that it can be covered. I wish I could tell you for sure. Right now he is doing the patients he saw last October. The last I've heard he can't do the other surgeries just the lapband ones so if you substract the ones who came to see him and who are not waiting for LBS, it's less patient in front of you. Maybe, since you're a nurse and you probably know your Dr., the one who's goiong to do your refferral, if he add something like "to do as soon as possible". Never know, maybe your Dr. can be your best allie. Last evening I ate too much and I didn't feel well. I won't do it again, learn my lesson. I'm going to pray for you that all the doors open for you. clempier
  22. Hi Happygirl9, Your Dr. or if you have a specialist (mine is Dr. Khan because I'm diabetic) did the refferal and everything. I didn't have to do anything. That's how it is here in NB. If you have a sickness, sleep apnea the surgery doesn't cost you a penny. Before, just a specialist could make a refferal but now your family Dr. can. Good Luck clempier
  23. Hi happygirl9, I'm feeling very well. It's been a week today since my LBS. I don't regret it at all. I was the first one to have it in Bathurst and two other ladies followed me. I was in the op. room more than they expected but I think Dr. Savoie wanted to make sure everything was fine. Dr. Khan my specialist told me how precise he was in his work and I beleive it. I stayed one night and then came back home in the morning. I have 5 incisions, one larger than the other ones. It's where the port is. It's stiff but it doesn't hurt. The main thing about that surgery is to be really ready psychologicaly. It's a life changing process. We would like to implant a support group for before and after surgery. I think it's essential for a good result. I know the clinic is talking about it. Right now, the only difference is I can't drink coffee or tea, I don't like the taste anymore. I also purp and have gas but it's normal and it's going to subside after I'll start eating normaly (shewing my food). You also have to have the support of your family and your friends and even your co-worker. Some even went on SlimFast and Boost just to support me. They call me to see how I am and they visit me too. I consider myself bless by all that and I have a peace in my heart that I did the right thing. clempier
  24. Hi Suzanne, I'm suppose to see Dr. Savoie July 20th and sure I'll ask him. So, how's life with a band? Let say, right now I'm on the liquid diet for one more week and then it's what I call "The Blender Diet". Do you do a lot of exercice? What is your weight lost in average? My Mom and Dad lives in Saint John so we went to Hampton a couple of times. Nice place, if I'm not mistaken, the last time I was there was for a big yard sale. clempier
  25. Hi to all, Five days after my surgery I started to walk a bit more. I went to the grocery store. Let me tell you I was glad to be back home. I can't say it hurts but it's stiff and when I go from side to side when I sleep it feels as if my organs were trying to find there initial place. They gave me pain killer pills. I use them when I go to bed. The only inconvenent is the burping. I'm not use to that. Keep your hope high, it's coming for you too. I'm still convince I did the right thing by having the lap band. clempier:thumbup:
