  1. Hi Terri, I had a look at your jewelry, very nice. interesting materials. The true indicator of correct design is always sales I say. If people buy it then it's good. I am not really a fashionista, I do technical stuff like sample development, pattern making and sewing. Although I am trained as a fashion designer my design skills are pretty rusty. I feel pretty good today. yesterday I went to the fabric market and I think the bags were too heavy. I started getting pain in my right side by my ribs (I think that's where the port is) Then it was getting worse through the day when bending over. Finally at night it was hurting quite a bit from any twisting or bending. Today it is better so I guess I over did it. I will take it easy today (last day off) and see if it gets better or I will go to the Doctor after work tomorrow. Diet wise I think I'm ok for now. Thanks to people on this forum. You are way ahead of me, so maybe I can ask you about the next stage. After my first fill I herd I need to go back to liquid diet? For how long? I really hated the liquid diet. The smell of chicken bouillon make me nauseous now. Sounds like you are doing great! Congrats :-)
  2. thanks for the diet info. That gives me a bit of a gauge. So somewhere between 50 and 100g. So I think I definitely not getting enough.

    Protein Drinks

Thanks to all who answered my question re; protein. gives me a much better idea. I was very excited to learn that the store across the street sells it. I am going to the store right now. :-)
  4. Hi Terry, You said: all the way from Thailand! What kind of work are you doing there? Are you an American? I had the surgery done in Thailand, I live in Shanghai China. I came to Shanghai for work. I am a fashion design teacher at a design college. Oh yes, I am Canadian. Thailand is much farther ahead than China for medical care. So I opted to go there instead of doing the surgery in Shanghai. The hospital was kinda iky in Shanghai. Thanks for sharing your diet. I found allot of diets that tell me about the foods but not much info about the Protein supplements. My husband said the store across the street caries that whey protein supplements. Maybe I should just take some of that and then I need not worry about the diet so much as far as getting the daily protein intake and focus on the size and chewing it all really well. I am starting to feel like I need to be a scientist he he.

    Too full???

Can somebody please explain to me about BPing? I heard about Slime. I was not aware of having to go back to liquid diet after fills? How long do I have to do liquids for after the fill. I am suddenly realizing how a bariatric Doctor or dietician would be useful here and how grateful I am to have this forum. I am in an unusual situation as I live in China and the doctor here doesn't speak English very well and are not set up for handling foreigners, plus I think there is still a whole "I am a Doctor, I don't need to explain anything to you" attitude here. I want to make sure I do the right things and look after my band for life.

    Protein Drinks

how much protein is recommended for one day? i am drinking one slim fast per day which has 14.1g in it. It is all I can find here in Shanghai. Is it enough? I am eating high protein foods, eggs, string cheese, cottage cheese. I also take a SF effervescent multivitamin. Please don't say talk to your dietitian because I don't have that here either.

    Questions in Kobe, Japan

Hi there, I am Canadian living in Shanghai. I just had my band done 09,21 in Thailand. So far so good. I am looking for another expat in Asia who can share similar experiences. I am fortunate that I have a fill Doctor here although it is at an old style communist hospital and my Doctor doesn't really speak English. I chose not do the surgery here as the hygiene is not really up to the standards that I am used to and the general level of care is just a bit rougher than what I am used to. They seem to be under the impression that they are treating me like a princess ha ha he he. NOT. Most of the people here can just call up their Dietitian or Doctor or Counselor for reliable guidance. I on the other hand am on my own. I would like to talk to some other people living abroad who are also advocating for themselves. So for example, my big adventure today will be to go hunting all the foreign food supermarkets for crystal light and cottage cheese. low fat would be even better but lets not be too picky.

    weight lifting

enjoy. I wish I was that excited about exercise!
  9. Just to clarify. I did quit smoking 2 and 1/2 years ago. I was banded 10 days ago. But for sure I think"if"I had to do both at the same time I'd go totally mental. Good luck to anyone who tries anything to better their health, it's a tough road.
  10. quitting smoking 2 and 1/2 years ago was one of the hardest things i have ever done. now i have been banded 9 days ago this might be harder?? one thing i know is that no amount of nagging ever helped me to quit. in fact i think i may have smoked an extra cigarette for every time somebody nagged my ass. I am still waiting to find smoking the stinky repulsive habit all these people expressed. I pass somebody smoking and i still go "mmmmmmm smoke" But that being said, I am really happy I quit because I can breath. I think that quitting smoking is a pretty big deal and so is the banding. maybe postpone your band until you are ready to quit? Good luck with whatever you decide.

    weight lifting

i was told no. can do everything. only watch out during the healing time.
  13. first of all, if these people care about you, they should surely be able to understand that you aren't really up to dining out yet. I wouldn't even plan any house guests while in recovery. You sound very considerate but I think after a major surgery you need to consider yourself first. second of all, I am confused about the diet too. My doctor is in Thailand and has provided only misinformation so far as I can make out. I don't have a reliable bariatric doctor here (shanghai) so I am just piecing things together myself based on what I have read. I did liquid diet for 1 week, then mushies with 1 Protein drink per day for this week and then introduce puree meat and veg. and continue the Protein shake. I hope that seems ok. I have to make my own desisions here.
  14. I remember my first thought when I woke up in the hospital was "oh my god, what have I done to myself" 9 days later I feel much better.

    weight lifting

I was banded 21-09 and my instructions were no exercise other than walking for one month. The Doc didn't mention weights specifically but I recon weights would be exercise. I would ask the doc about the abs maybe? I heard that weight lifting works by tearing the muscle a little and then healing it. That's what makes the hard bump of a muscle. My logic tells me tearing your abs too soon might not be good. Best to ask the Doctor.
  16. mnn, That seems pretty harsh and judgmental. Isn't this forum supposed to be a support forum. I think the guy was just supposing what would happen. I can rather understand that he might be feeling really stressed and it is all a bit overwhelming. I thought of booze as an escape myself the first couple of days as well as all sorts of other depressing stuff. Of course good advice is to abstain especially if your in the frst month as it could harm your body.
  17. I am really dreading the no booze thing. Especially will be missed after a stressful day at work. I will try to abstain all together but I figure occasional white wine on weekends will be ok. None this month of recovery at all of course and I will try to stay that way as long as I can. I think booze is bad for me because of what it does to my judgment. like: "yeah baby! lets eat McDonald's" or " common, lets go to the store I want some snacks" I'm not so afraid of the occasional calories of the wine but more my ability to control myself after I've had a few. ;-P
